OP, I also don't think your post was hate-centered.

Is this such a problem that people have to be so angry about it? I agree that when it's hot and everyone is irritable, it's annoying for someone (anyone) to get in front of you in line, but I personally wouldn't let it ruin my Disney experience. What does that accomplish?

Nothing. But keep in mind that I made this post because I was thinking of a way to make the jerks (not the nice people) happy so they wouldn't complain (and thus cause awkward situations for the rest of us) and also so the disabled could be more comfortable but I will yield to the possibility that there is no real solution.

How much time are we talking about? I think for us this happens maybe once in a week of taking buses all over WDW. Maybe we get delayed 3 minutes if it's just extra boarding time; maybe we get delayed 15 minutes if it means we have to take the next bus. I think I can handle 15 minutes' inconvenience in a week-long vacation for the sake of discriminating in favor of injured veterans or others who have it too easy and get to spend their lives in wheelchairs.

OK, I am all set. Please continue.

I didn't understand this when you posted it, but now I do.

There has been an incredible amount of miscommunication, both misunderstanding of the OP (he wanted the HELP both the disabled and the other guests by trying to IMPROVE the system for EVERYBODY) and knee jerk reaction to replies (some of which I admit were pretty ignorant - and some seem to be intentionally designed to stir things up).

Where's Erika or somebody? This thing needs to be shut down!

Logistically this would not be hard to implement. Disney could use large vans that could hold 2 ECVs and a hand full of passengers and use them as a taxi service. Have radios to call for more vans to pick up passengers as obviously some hotels are further away than others. Also have separate locations for disabled pick up. It's all with the intention of providing a better service to those who are disabled. The most important part would be you must have a disability pass from Disney guest relations (they already exist) and a resort key so you can use the service. Obviously it will be the discression of the van driver if the person did not know about the disability pass but that way people with crutches do not try and get a free ride.

My wife and I have stayed at Disney 4 times since she was wheelchair bound. She has decided that she hated being the center of attention being loaded on a bus. We have found that it is much better to take our van to the parks each day. We don't have to wait for transportation, we park in handicapped parking for free, and we don't have to deal with the stares.

Having said all that, she will gladly trade with anybody out there who can walk throughthe parks.

Just wondering aloud here, but does this debate mean when I'm in the single rider line, I will be glared at for getting onto the ride quicker?

Did either of you two watch Six Feet Under? Michael C. Hall was awesome in that. In fact, I have been half tempted to watch Dexter solely because of his previous performance in SFU, but unfortunately, time does not allow for me to get 'hooked' on another TV show right now.

you really should, its that good.

I've posted in many threads on related topics and my head still hurts from hitting the wall :brick: so.... I've decided to :zipit: on this and just laugh at those who can't comprehend the actual topic of the thread, the drama llamas as I will now refer to them, and the others who don't understand a debate is a discussion with 2 differing opinions thats all and not a personal attack.

Thank for the refill on the coke and popcorn..... this is getting good!!!!

Isn't that what the OP wanted after posting this within days of the Wheelchair Abuse thread? I was just playing the other side of the Pot Stirring. If it wasn't just a shock statement to get people worked up, then sorry I got worked up. Just trying to be the good soldier ya know. Sorry if I got the intent of the thread wrong. I thought it was supposed to be a wizz/vinegar kind of thing?

Oh people please....Seriously...

Why does someone always find something to complain about?

You are at WDW..who cares if you have to wait a little longer for a bus or a ride or whatever else you have to wait for...isn't it better then being in your own hometown waiting in rush hour traffic or waiting in line at the bank or the grocery store?

Just have fun and enjoy your time with your family or friends or whoever while you are on vacation....

We ran into issues when the person in a wheelchair or EVC would load, but on more than one occasion at least ten or more people in the party loaded with them. Also there was one time we had been waiting 10 minutes for the bus and a party with a wheelchair had just walked right up as the bus arrived, and then the whole party boarded. There were already people on the bus so some of the people who were waiting long before the wheelchair party came did not get on the bus and had to wait for the next one. I understand needing assistance from other persons in your party, but 1 or 2 other people should suffice. The other people should wait in line with everyone else.

First off:

Pseudo-experts on the ADA and various laws:

At Disneyland they have special vans exclusively for the purpose of taking people with wheelchairs from the parking structure to the park entrances. Everyone else walks or rides the trams.

The school districts in nearly every state run special buses around to pick up the children with wheelchairs - other students ride the regular non-equipped buses.

There, proved you wrong, so stop spouting nonsense.

Second:

It does not take "a minute" to load a wheelchair into most Disney buses. I waited for 15mins just the other day in a full line - long enough for another disney bus between MGM and Epcot to arrive. The second bus filled completely loaded, to capacity, and left before the first was finished with the first of two wheelchairs it was loading.

People are being inconvienced, unneededly, so that Disney can save money. They need more buses and they need to run the special vans. They're just too cheap and everyone lets them get away with it with inaccurate notions of what the laws are and how people want to be treated.

There is nothing wrong with riding with your party in a special van from A to B, Disney should have enough vans to accomodate people. The reason for an unfair wait? Disney being cheap.

Don't blame other people, dont accuse them of being insensitive and cruel. Disney is cheap. That's the real problem. Place the blame firmly where it belongs.

To the OP...

(start of sarcasm)
You're absolutely right, it is unfair for you to have to wait in 100+ degree weather while some one in a wheel chair gets loaded onto a bus.

It's almost as unfair as being paralyzed from the waist down...

(end of sarcasm)

Maybe you should think before going on one of your mad rants. I'd gladly wait the extra 5-10 minutes (and do on a regular basis while using the bus system here in New York City, sometimes in 100 degree weather and sometimes in zero degree weather, imagine that) it takes to load some body with a physical impairment, and use that time to realize how lucky I am to be in good health.

You make me sick... Have a magical day

Did you even read the OP? I didn't see any mad rants.
