Do you think they’ll announce another park in South America? Brazil is the 7th most populous country in the world, has a burgeoning middle class, a largely untapped consumer base. This satellite event in São Paulo might be such an announcement.
If this does come about, this, coupled with DCL spending and expected CapEx, would eat up just about all that pie in the sky dreaming that the $60bn over the next ten years was “expected” to bring to WDW

Re: Brazil Pavilion

Remember folks, unless Disney is making a very drastic change in policy, Disney will not build a national pavilion without the nation or one of its corporate or NGO organizations footing the bill. The rumored Brazil pavilion didn't happen because its sponsor pulled out.

So, if a Brazil pavilion is back on the table, it's because some corporation is sponsoring it.

This could be a Disney+ push.

Or a push to get more Brazil tours back on the table.

Or maybe a Disneyland Brazil!!!
My understanding was a $450 million budget (2017 dollars) that was split fairly evenly between a corporate sponsor and Disney.

First I've heard about sharing the cost with a corporate sponsor. But, not doubting it.

Going for a park in Brazil would shock me. For Disney at least, it'd eat insanely into their current international tourist market...

On the other hand, I'd love to see them do a D23 in Tokyo at some point.

Too much honor with the Japanese people to ever have a D23 event there. Bob and Josh would have to have swords at-the-ready so they could fall on them immediately after their presentations. ;)

In all seriousness, I don't know if a D23 would work in Japan. It feels like they tend to play to crazed American Disney fans and holding the event in Japan would limit that audience.

Japan has had three D23 Expo's in 2013, 2015, and 2018.

I am not getting hopeful at all, but I can't imagine Disney not announcing a ton of stuff at this years D23. They would have had a full year to flush things out and have more then Blue Sky thoughts. Plus more time with Bruce at the Helm. They have to announce big things to combat Epic Universe for the future. Also, have to combat the new rumors that Pokémon is replacing Simpsons, and Zelda replacing Lost Continent at Universal all before 2030. They might not announce everything, but if they were smart they would announce with detail big things for all 4 parks...

MK - Beyond Thunder Mountain - Villains or Something Else (Cars Land joins BTMR to become the new Frontierland? Just thinking out loud, not a rumor, calm down)
Epcot - Test Track, Journey, Spaceship Earth, Coco in Mexico, Proper Poppins in UK
Studios - Whole new land for animation courtyard area after demo
Animal Kingdom - South America with Indy & Encanto

That is what they need to announce at a bare minimum IMHO. If they don't go big, they will never get back to the old Disney that we all know is possible. 2025 to 2030 the Disney Half Decade!!

Temper expectations. You’re going to get a few new cruise boats, a slightly reconfigured DLR, and a disappointing E and D ticket in MK.

Agreed, it's totally time for this to be a make or break deal, potentially on August 11th, 2024, even if it's very little, but I'm with you, I think they NEED to flush things out and have more than just Blue Sky thoughts that WDI are thinking inside their mind, otherwise Mario and the Minions will top Mickey as the theme park kings of Orlando, FL

Since the regular D23 is way before the Brazil one, I wonder if they'll announce everything first then repeat it in Brazil, or hold news off until the November D23

We should place bets on what they'll be announcing for Brazil

( ) Nothing
( ) Cruise line and/or beach resort
( ) Brazil pavilion
( ) Brazil park

I'm on either nothing or beach resort

Can anyone confirm for me that fans in Brazil can join D23? I assume they can if they’re holding it there!

When I asked yet again last year when /if there were plans to allow UK fans to join, I was told that D23 was only open to those living in the US or Canada. 🙄☹️

We managed to subscribe to D23 from the UK and while it's really nice to have, it does cost a lot to get it all shipped over.

How did you get past the registration? Was this recent?

I’ve been trying since pre Covid without success. Even with a vpn As soon as I put in a UK post code it rejects it. Last time would have been the summer.

I have said it before and I’ll say it again. D23 is critical for Disney. Mostly all major announcements stem from this one major event. It being bi-annual raises the ante even more. If nothing is announced at D23 (any year) that means the Disney fan community will have to wait another 2 years for announcements regarding the parks.

As nothing of concrete note was announced at last D23 (which is unprecedented). We have now had to essentially wait two more years for any news of major investment in the park. If they do not announce something at this one it will be 2 more years (translating to 4 years total) till we hear something.

I know Disney seems to not care about Epic Universe. I realize others may think I’m beating a dead horse here. If they do not announce major investment it will lead to problems for them down the road. Especially if these other rumors about universal come to pass. Not to mention it historically can take up to 4 years for Disney to build anything (new) they announce. To put that in perspective if they started building by the end of the year it could be up until 2028 till we see anything new at the stateside parks.

That’s 4 years of no major projects. 4 years that universal has to build lots of attractions and take market share away from Disney. I can’t remember the last time when Disney would have no new addition lined up for the following year. Anytime it has gotten to that point they would announce something at D23 to “replenish the pot” so to say so their was always something going on.

Disney also desperately could use some good will among fans. I feel investing in the parks is a good step in that direction.

IF they spend 60 billion dollars in a decade (and that’s completely fair to question the if), no it won’t be this. You are significantly underselling what they did in the previous decade as a comparator. No matter how many ways we slice it, 60 billion is still an expansion of spending. Not as big as the top line number implies (inflation, etc), but also not so little that you seem to imply it is.

This previous decade that we are comparing to included a new resort (SDL), robust spends on every park in their portfolio, 5 new DVC, spend on several cruise ships (finishing or initiating), Disney Springs, new resort transportation, a portion of spend on a new private island.

A single entity like DVC or DCL is not sucking the room out of the air on 60 billion. So unless your position is they don’t spend 60 billion OR we are getting 15-20 unannounced cruise ships and new DVC EACH, their parks will see reasonable spending.
