Marketing. All depends on Marketing. They could do a lot here, in that respect.
I don't think so. No amount of marketing will make the princess M&Gs appealing to me. And I'm not alone.

The crowd that the FLE will attract is the same crowd that would have come to the MK anyway. They are, in a sense, preaching to the choir.

Now a big E (Like Tower big, Indy big, Everest big, Mysterious Island big), that would have gotten bodies through the gates that might not have otherwise come.

Like Potter for example. People that would otherwise not have given Uni much thought, will be making the trek just for WWoHP.
FLE...it'll give the princess crowd that would already be heading to MK more things to do. Everyone else....not so much.

I've said it before. Mermaid and the BatB Restaurants...good. Provides needed capacity and food service.
Everything else - wasted millions. A big, game-changing, E (again, like Tower, Indy, Everest, MI)....that is what they should have spent the rest of the money on.

It is my belief that this homogenous "princess" marketing to the tween market has really hurt Disney image. What used to be a premium collection of high quality animated adventure films have been reduced to "cartoons for little girls". I believe this is a big part of the reason why Princess and the Frog flopped. There was no princess merchandising in the 80s and thats why films like The Little Mermaid and Beauty & the Beast became huge sucess stories and ushered in the "second renaissance". Now moviegoers have been conditioned by Disney to think Princess and the Frog is another film like "Cinderella 3:Wrinkle in Time", "Little mermaid 2", or one of those . This is the same reason why Disney has now forced Lasseter to rename Rapunzel (dumb decision) and cancel "The Snow Queen" and "King of the elves" (even dumber decision). It is going to be very difficult to break the public psyche that these movies/charecters aren't just for little girls and their films are made on the cheap to make a buck.

This redo of toontown will not remedy the situation it glorifies it. If they were going to redo Fantasyland/Toontown do it properly like they did at Disneyland in the 80s or don't do it at all. A single e-ticket like an Indiana Jones, a Journey to the Center of the Earth, a Monsters Inc. Ride and Go Seek!, or a true Space Mountain overhaul would have created long term value for the Magic Kingdom. This fantasyland overhaul is the equivalent of putting a band-aid on a fleshwound.

My appologies for being negative but I just wanted to give my thoughts on the matter.

PatF may have flopped in the box office, but it has a ton of merch sales and has critical acclaim. :animwink:

Exactly. And you're preaching to the fanboi choir, they either love it automatically (most) or don't because they realize it's more of the same. Nicer. Newer. Better looking. But still the same old princess model.

Yeah, but you're forgetting that ARIEL WILL TALK TO YOU!!!!! ... And that Pooh will wish your little princess a Happy Birthday!!! ... And that you can COLOR WITH AURORA!!!!!!!:eek::eek:

Yeah, those sure are game-changers ... those are the type of things that take a magical WDW vacation to a whole 'nother level.

Um ... no.

Very well said! The money should've been going to something epic, not M&G. I'll like the looks of FLE but looks aren't enough. I doubt I'd ever go into the M&G. LM and the restaraunt is about it for me.

Question- is it management who wants a M&G land or did WDI come up with this "idea"?

I'm really missing what your getting at here. No matter how they market it it's still basically a bunch of Meet and Greets.
That's true, don't deny it. But there is a solid D/E Tic here, and it will be a fresh "face" for FL. Which was needed.

Don't deny that either...This isn't revolutionary, but it's nothing to dismiss, either. There's a middle ground for this, I think, and that's being excited for it, but knowing they could do better.

Look at Hercules. Same amount of critical praise, comparable box office.

Completely forgotten.:(

I think that's because of problems with Hercules as a face character- or at least that's the stories I'd hear. Hades is actually quite popular around the parks across the world.

And to add to the "it's only M&G's..."

So is WS essentially. 2 small rides and a bunch of meet and greets mixed in beautiful architecture and side acts to watch.

The WS was never supposed to have M&G's and imo should't, this is a recent occurence.

Well, in WS you were supposed to elarn and meet people from their homes.... I see a connection whether it's snow White or a chiense Acrobat

It's like WS, yes, but it lacks the symbolism.

If the character relates to the country in anyway, it's fine, IMHO, as long as it is kept in check. Snow White, for example.

The only true offender in World Showcase is the princess dinner at Askherus in Norway. Having characters along the promenade off of the beaten path doesn't hurt anything.

If it fits and is classic like SW in Germany. Seeing Marie in France, Alladin in Morocco, even Alice in the UK, Koda in Canada doesn't fit and cheapens the experience of the WS.

Koda is just fine in Canada. Give the kids something to look forward to in World Showcase. I don't feel like it cheapens the WS experience at all. Certainly not as bad as the cheesey Epcot Character Spot in Future World.:hurl:

I agree but Aladdin in Morocco doesn't work and the Princess's in Norway come on!
There is always so much controversy on these threads about Aladdin and Morocco. I never had a problem with Aladdin being in Morocco. The origins of the tale are so diluted that it is hard to exactly pinpoint a location.

Supposedly Aladdin was a tale from "The 1000 and one Arabian nights", which were folk tales derived from locations in the Middle East, Egypt, maybe even India. The story is about a boy in China. Since the story teller was never in China the land is modeled after eastern parts of central Asia. The rulers were still Emirs and Sultans and prayed to Allah. Further more supposedly the orignal owner of the lamp was said to be from Morocco.

I think it fits well enough to be in the Moroccan pavillian. I know I will get flamed but..
