There’s no “fight”…

It isn’t the point of coming here.

The “point” is that the Walt Disney company is an international conglomerate that is publicly traded in the United States. They care not for you…nor ever will.

Our job as consumers is not to promote them or help them stray off course…it’s to hold them accountable for bad decisions and partake of good ones. Symbiosis. Econ 101.

That is not diametrically opposed to enjoying Disney…it goes hand and hand for the longterm. We can enjoy the parks and movies and products. But we don’t and shouldn’t have to swear allegiance to them.

It’s product…not a way of life. My naive belief is that every human over 14 understands this deep down.

The Pom Pom quips are hollow…not really a mystery. So we don’t have to laud D23 just because they have it. Clutch your lanyard and your mouse ears and take control of yourself. I look for the good…not the misdirection. Are they doing a new haunted mansion movie? I would think that’s a positive…so that’s good, right?

Wish they would do more Disney Parks shows on Disney+
…the design is the “magic” and always has been (if you can interpret that nonsense term close to reality)

It’s the crowd flow, the distribution, the layout, perspective, the engineering an design that Always made them stand out. Not fuzzy animals, parades and fireworks…

…so “I agree” that they are missing out on documenting that more.

The parks series is the best docu they’ve done on D23 yet…well ILM is right there too…

Even if they downplay Eisner a little and promote Iger…which is backwards and intellectually dishonest.

I don't know, he's cute, well-designed, and endearing in terms of a sense of positivity and childlike wonder, at least in his original incarnation. I think the context of the character goes beyond the ride to include Epcot which enhances Figment's appeal as a character the conjures up associations with a place people enjoy.

I can't remember if Dreamfinder was also featured in those short educational films Disney made using Figment in the 1980s, but either way I think he still worked as a somewhat naive character excited to learn new things without having Dreamfinder next to him. He's mostly a happy and curious kid in the form of a little purple dragon wearing a fetching sweater, but I'm not sure that gives Figment any less depth of character compared to most of the Fab Five.

That still screams "sidekick" to me. It doesn't necessarily have to be Dreamfinder, but I think Figment on his own doesn't work -- it's partially why his appearance in the current Imagination ride is so bad.

I think figment as a sidekick to a classic “crazy inventor” type character works…

Like a Mr. Magoo…Dr. Doolittle…or Lemony Snicket type of feel…

You would just have to have some INTELLIGENT write a show/movie based on it…

And Disney seem “low” in talent these days

I see what you mean, and even the wide-eyed child aspect of his character works better with some sort of guide through whatever he's experiencing or learning about.

That dynamic, though, could have worked between Figment and Dr. Nigel Channing. The reason I don't think it does work in the current ride is that they've just made him a hyperactive, annoying brat who doesn't listen to anything Dr Nigel Channing says and goes out of his way to mess everything up.

For the record, I want to see Little Mermaid and I hope it's great. It's my favorite of the "princess" movies.

The actress reminds me of Ariel and has a very cute, wide-eyed, innocent face that reminds me of original, so I like her casting.

Thankfully singers of all sorts exists, and ones who riff have found great success.

When she riffed the end of Part of Your World, I was gooped, gagged, and slayed. I screamed yasss queen and snapped my fingers.

She sounds incredible.

Halle’s voice is angelic and from what I’ve heard so far, her rendition of “Part of Your World” sounds fantastic. The run/riff was the best part.

People complain about Disney remaking the animated films and lacking originality (something I agree with), but then turn around and also complain when a singer puts their own spin on a song.

The entire thing is amazing. Nothing fancy, just her and the camera. No silly sight gags or characters. Long form shots, absolutely nailing the song.

As she reaches the pinnacle hole up top, the entire background fades. Just her and the camera for a verse and the background resolidifies with her now having floated all the way back down to be shown seated.

I'm trying to decide whether I'm interested in this one. I'll be honest and say that I've only seen the Beauty & the Beast and (godawful) Dumbo remakes because they really don't appeal to me. But, they are a license to print money and seem to be instantly forgotten in favour of the original versions so I understand why they make them and don't really care as I don't have to see them.

The lead actress in this version looks good in the role to me, though, and is at least a singer. The casting of non-singers in Beauty & the Beast was one of the things that really grated on me about that film compared to the pure talent on the original soundtrack. Also interested to see what Alan Menken and Lin Manuel Miranda come up with. So, this is probably the first remake in a while I am kind of interested to see!

Save praise or criticism until you SEE it.

That’s not the same as judging the decisions to make these things and how they go about it. That’s a business analysis and longterm goals of the Disney company

I actually like dumbo…but I’m an Eva green fan…

I thought beauty and the beast was terrible…and Aladdin…offered NOTHING different to me.

The jungle book was a
Mess to me too…but at least favreau tried

Very good advice. I used to automatically dismiss…but I learned. Save praise or criticism until you SEE it.

Sorry to hear about Pinocchio… I had hopes ☹️

Original Pinocchio is tops in my book. That and Lady and The Tramp were childhood favorites. So I was expecting so much.

It's just... different and I have trouble not comparing it to the original. I didn't hate it like others did though.
I can't, there's a cat in it. 😂

I thought Halle sounded great in the teaser. And the visuals look fantastic.

But since they're going to all the trouble to remake The Little Mermaid, here's hoping they fix some of the story issues with the original. Malcolm Gladwell did a three-episode series on his Revisionist History podcast about the failings in the plot. Worth a listen if you have some time. Here's part one: https://www.pushkin.fm/podcasts/revisionist-history/little-mermaid-part-1-the-golden-contract.
