On behalf of War President MKT, SirNim, Gregory, and all of the D-Army:
Orlando, Florida (December 27, 2004) -- The D-Troops are assembling for action! A motley group of Walt Disney World fans, both local and distant, and Cast Members, both current and former, have organized a new website (www.d-troops.com) that seeks to protect and promote the Disney magic at the theme parks in Lake Buena Vista, Florida. In an era in which the solid creative legacy of Walt Disney is being undermined by investment cuts, short-term thinking, and low-budget attractions, the D-Troops are determined to reverse this trend with a unified public voice of concern and protest.
In light of such recent failures as Epcot’s “Journey into Your Imagination” attraction and the lukewarm public reception of “Stitch’s Great Escape,” the D-Troops have pinpointed the problem areas that are threatening the Walt Disney World Resort’s integrity. As their “Declaration of Sentiment” asserts, these areas include less inspired means of storytelling, a recent lack of creative risk-taking, an all-too-predominant profit motive, less attention to cleanliness and detail, and the overall fading of Walt Disney’s personal legacy and magic touch. Visitors to the site will be invited to read and sign the Declaration, as well as explore the other informative offerings:
· Weekly news alerts will keep visitors informed of the frequent changes at Disney World, including the good, the bad, and the ugly. “Pardon the Pixie Dust” will cast a spotlight on poor maintenance or upkeep, which the D-Troops decry as “bad show.”
· A series of current projects, or “missions,” will be featured on the main page. These will urge visitors to actively participate in preserving or revitalizing “endangered” attractions. When the D-Troops site premieres, the featured attractions will include the Wonders of Life and Spaceship Earth pavilions at Epcot, as well as the Carousel of Progress and The Timekeeper at the Magic Kingdom.
· The site will feature a discussion board, weekly opinion write-ups from the D-Troops staff, a Web-Quiz, and insider articles that take a closer look at the dark side of the Mouse House.
· In coming months, the site will launch “D-Troops Radio,” an additional medium for informing Disney World fanatics and critics alike about the changes at the Orlando parks.
D-Troops’ mission is to become the online headquarters for protecting the magic of Walt Disney World, and the group seeks to eventually form a “coalition for change” among the many different sites on the Internet that protest the current state of affairs at the theme parks. The website will premiere as D-Troops.com on January 4, 2005.
