In short, you can't celebrate record profits and then cry poverty. It doesn't work like that.
If I recall, the amount of profit (the number) isn't connected with the liability built up. It looks good because the debts haven't been paid, but, those spectacular profits might not cover the obligation that aren't due yet. Just guessing here, or perhaps they know something that we don't. There is a difference between a P&L statement and a balance sheet.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm just saying that for those who don't currently own stock in Disney, plans to purchase and attend this year's meeting will have to wait until next year. And yes, I realize that any shareholder can ask a question during open question time. I'm just saying that someone who owns just a few shares of Disney stock is not going to be given the same weight as someone who owns much more... Not saying I agree with that, because I think any shareholder, no matter if they own one share, 100 shares, 5% or a controlling interest, is important. But when you have 1.6B shares outstanding, the guy with 100 or even 1000 shares just won't have the same voice as far as corporate is concerned.
The key would be asking one strong question with an embarrassing answer.

Here is what will happen just like it does at my job. Money is tight and jobs are cut. Slowly jobs are added back till everyone is a little over staffed. Then money becomes tight and jobs are cut. So it goes over and over. I remember reading on this site a few years ago the Fantasmic! was closing do to budget cuts and that never happened; Avatar was not going to be built; etc; etc. Let just wait and see what really happens
^^This. It's the same where I work, and my wife, and most people I know. Things also change every time there is a change in upper management, and for me, that's every few years. I seem to recall that some of your posts the past few years have not been such that people could term you a pixie dusted fanboi :), but you seem to one of those people who understands that chat on social media often leads to a snowball of hyperbole and exaggeration. Even Steve's opening post noted "Things are just getting started now, and are thought to be continuing through to the summer. No word yet on how long they will be in place." No need to panic just yet.:)

However, Disney talking about cutbacks and employee layoffs at WDW doesn't give the folks in the Florida Legislature comfort. As they are in session right now putting together the budget for FY2016-17 and wondering about the fiscal health of one of the major engines of the Florida economy train.....

I can't remember. Did the recession of 2008 have any impact on WDW itself?
Well, Attendance didn't drop (i'm being lazy, someone else can fact check) but it was flat for a few years.
You rang? :D

Parks & Resorts revenue fell 7.3% and operating income fell 25.3% in fiscal year 2009 (which started in October 2008).

Domestic theme park attendance rose by 2% but Per Capita Guest Spending (i.e. how much each Guest spent at the parks) declined 6% while Per Room Guest Spending (i.e. how much was spent at the hotels per occupied room) declined 8%.

Discounts kept Guests coming but meant they spent less. Remember "7 nights for the price of 4"? That resulted in a 16% drop in PRGS in the second quarter.

Disney also offered "free dining" for most of the last quarter, resulting in a 12% drop in PCGS in the fourth quarter.

The fools defending this mess are making me nauseous. I really agree with what someone said earlier, the mindless WDW fanbois really do deserve what they get: mediocrity!

Why blame the mindless fanboi's?

The real issue is the people whom are critical yet continue to go to the parks, go to Disney films, consume Disney products, etc etc.

Instead of pointing fingers and writing emails, some people need to look in the mirror.

Jimmy Thick- Say it with me, record attendance, RECORD PROFITS!!!
