I'm going to disagree with you here:

Grand Fiesta: The screens are "old school" and not really intended to be "Harry Potter"-immersive.

Nemo, on the other hand, does the fish-in-the-tank thing really well. It's not the problem with the ride - the ride is the problem with the ride. The fish-in-tank are kind of cool. It being a non-cohesive Nemo ride sucks.

"NEMO... NEMO!!! NEMO!!! NEMO!!" - I get it.. Nemo's lost and I don't care.

But the tank projections are a small part of an otherwise very boring ride based almost solely around video screens that are poorly integrated with physical sets.

I thought the tank projections were pretty good but, you're right, in that the sets behind them are pretty much "empty tank" (at least the times I've been on it). The ride is horrible, though.

I remember almost every bit of it...It was a marvel... Imagine a world...The Hydrolators... It was clever and magestic and transportive...
It really was that quintessential original EPCOT experience... Looking at the future and technology...Combiniing to make a hopeful new world...
How could you not like that?? A few years in they discontinued the sea cab use which I think hurt the overall show, but it was a great pavilion...and didn't need any character interaction...

The main thing I remember before the refurb is that it was used in an episode of Thunder in Paradise, the greatest show about Hulk Hogan fighting crime in a hi-tech boat there ever was!

Let's be honest- it's not like the experience before was all that memorable. Aside from "the deluge" line, I don't remember anything. The bulk of the experience was the actual aquariums.
We had like 7 days of rain last week, and I said "and they rained...and rained...and rained."

Honestly, for what it's worth (an entrance to a pavilion), I think the Nemo ride is fine. It's an adequate C-ticket that my kids like. The cabs they replaced were nothing to write home about. Without Nemo, we'd likely have a dead pavilion. The hydrolators were cool but dated (and eventually removed altogether) and the pavilion was a mess. Now it is relevant. Personally, I have no issue with the integration of the Nemo characters into the pavilion itself--on the displays and such. That is a reasonable integration of characters and zoos and aquaria do the same thing to appeal to kids. Turtle Talk is cute, and the ride is innocuous. The additions made the pavilion popular again so we can still see manatees and dolphins.

It's certainly worlds ahead of Imagination, Energy, and Innoventions.

Yep. The old seacab ride sucked and TBH I didn't think the film was all that great. The cool aspects of the pavilion was the hydrolator concept and the actual seabase. And the seabase is largely intact.

I'm not a fan of how the Nemo ride is a quasi-rehashing of the film -- there would have been far better ways to integrate the IP -- but I don't really mourn was "lost", unlike other FW pavilions.

I agree. It was very well done.

And I've seen some Disneyland folks actually say that we got the better end of the stick - even though their Nemo overlay kept open a beloved ride (the subs) - particularly when you factor in the cost. Having done both, I can tell you that there is an undeniable romance to the real-water and the subs, but they are very cramped and the portholes are tiny - I had to hunch over the entire time, it was painful by the end. Our Nemo is just a nice relaxing ride with much of the same effect.

I prefer the Subs myself but to each their own.

Back to the topic at hand, anyone been to Boardwalk Bakery recently? In addition to cupcakes, et. al., they used to have a half dozen sandwiches and paninis and a couple salads. Now I see three sandwiches (with a bag of Lay's potato chips sent into the future by Marty McFly) listed online and a Caesar salad. Surely that's not it for the only counter service place at the resort (unless I want freezer case mozzarella sticks)? I know there are other resorts around, but Beach Club Marketplace barely counts. Surely they should be able to match the variety of Panera...

Also, breakfast is continental-only at the resort now. Nothing cooked. How will Bob Iger feel the next time he stays at the Red Roof Inn on Crescent Lake?

Am I missing something?

From today's Q2 earnings report, for those who didn't think Paris was in anyway involved.

https://ditm-twdc-us.storage.googleapis.com/q2_fy16_earnings.pdf
Lower operating income at our international operations was due to higher pre-opening expenses at Shanghai Disney Resort, increased operating costs at Disneyland Paris and lower volume at Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, partially offset by higher guest spending at Disneyland Paris.

In all fairness the last EDLSCA report did mention higher operating costs as a direct result of the ongoing (major) renovation works.

Let's be honest. It was.

Nemo was done on a shored up shoestring budget. In all fairness thought it was the lesser of the two evils.

The other was complete closure. Which was a strong possibility.
What was the other option? Give the pavilion the Wonders of Life treatment? Butcher all the marine life and serve it to guests during Food and Wine?
