They sell the grapefruit cake at Starring Rolls?!?!

I've heard many secondhand tales about this. Apparently you can ask for the grapefruit cake at Starring Rolls and a cast member will go to the Brown Derby kitchen and retrieve a piece. It costs the same price at Starring Rolls as at the Brown Derby. Some say that this request isn't always honored. I can see how it would be a problem if one or both restaurants are busy.

Have only tried 2 so far...the Chocolate Peanut Butter cupcake from Starring Rolls and the S'more Cupcake from the Boardwalk Bakery. Both were AMAZING but I liked the S'more cupcake better...red velvet from Starring Rolls is next on my list during our next trip! :slurp:

Sorry for such dark pictures...

Wow! Awesome! I'll have to remember that one. The only other reason I could think to still go to the Derby to fetch the cake is to start it off with a Cobb Salad. Those were my 2 favorite dishes when we had the Lunch w/an Imagineer in May of 2008. Thank you!

The grapefruit cake is really an interesting thing to eat. The tastes for me are such a contrast, the sweet from the sugar paired with the anticipated bitter that my brain conjurs with the hint of grapefruit. It's almost confusing but in a really neat way. Like the first time you ate Pop Rocks. So unexpected but wonderful all at the same time. It makes the experience. I've never had anything like that before or since. I loved it!

I got one that's worse than THAT! My husband prefers yellow cake with no frosting at all. I don't know what rock he crawled out from under but that is seriously not normal. He doesn't like chocolate all that much but also doesn't like sweet frosting. It was explained to me by a pastry chef that true buttercream frosting isn't like the super-sweet Americanized version. It actually has egg in it and isn't as sweet. It's light & creamy, just not as sweet. Disney's pastry chefs make the custom cakes with the traditional, less-sweet buttercream. The husband said it was the best buttercream he ever had. I personally thought it was lacking flavor because I like the sweet. Not too overpowering sweet but I like it sweet enough to absolutely require a glass of milk.

If you get a caramel apple from the Karamel Kuchen in Germany ask them to cut it up for you. They'll pop the stick out, slice the apple into wedges, and put it in a box for you. Much easier to snack, share, and save some for later!

My fiance's sister tried the vanilla cupcake with blue icing at Sweet Spells in DHS

as well as the chocolate cupcake with white icing drizzled with caramel in Germany in EPCOT

..she said both of the cakes were dry and the icing was like granulated sugar. Not good at all. Very disappointing.

It wasn't until the last day at POP when she tried the cookies n cream cupcake that she had "seen the light"

Funny, as I had the complete opposite opinion. I LOVED the cupcake in Germany and really didn't enjoy either of the cupcakes I got at Pop last trip. For me it's all about the icing and I prefer that granulated sugar icing apparently.
