They're alright.

You can play with the Windows settings - right click on the desktop and pick "properties" and go to the appearance tab. There is a Font size setting there. Also, you may find someone has been playing with the Advanced settings there, which lets you change fonts and sizes all over the Windows interface.

It's possible also that the last person to use it had a weird Colour Scheme - try picking "Windows Standard" from that drop down.
