Just our family (me, hubby, two kids (6 & 3))
Which CS should we go for?

We've never eaten CS at DHS before b/c we've always had an ADR somewhere! We're going to be there first week of March so Studio Catering is closed, right!?!

And the child's menu needs to have more than a peanut butter and jelly sandwich (son has peanut allergy). Kids are not picky, though!

What do you suggest?

I must admit, we struggle with CS at DHS. ABC Commissary is absolutely horrendous. Starring Rolls has some sandwiches. Try the Backlot Express. It looks like their childrens menu has chicken nuggets.

Either the Backlot Express or any CS on Sunset Boulevard. They have a variety of choices and always have good stuff to eat.

Especially the healthy options. :)

The kid's burger is more well prepared in ABC Commissary rather than in Catalina Eddie's, from previous experience. :lookaroun

I read some where that backlot express is suppose to under go some renovations, when I'm not sure, but if you do decide to use that as your CS chocie perhaps check to make sure it's in service...

I think Studio Catering Company is going down (the one by the BLT). Backlot Express is over by Star Tours.

*these are the moments when I realize how much of a nerd I am*

My parents ate at ABC back in '08 and actually threw their burgers in the garbage. (They are not complainers and would eat anything!) Although, we did buy a breakfast sandwich there once that my husband said was ok! I don't think I've ever had anything there!?!

Yeah I'm the same way when it comes to food but the burger I had actually made me violently nauseous...not a fun time. The food choices there are just limited and icky.

my favorite CS at DHS is starring rolls, the only downside is that it closes early and it can be hard to find a table to eat at. I also like backlot express. if your using money rather than DDP its always worth catching the ferry over to the beach club and having a meal at beaches and cream, it only costs a couple of bucks more and has a great atmosphere and the food though simple is good.

I know a lot of people knock it, but I always eat at Pizza Planet. Yes, it's Disney pizza and that can be lackluster to some, but to me, it's tradition.

Also, I have heard nothing but good things about Starring Rolls. It's a very good and different place for lunch.

I agree with Backlot Express as well if you need an indoor option. If the weather is nice enough for outdoor dining, there are a bunch of overlooked places on Sunset Blvd but you are going to have to eat outdoors. There are multiple places, so everyone doesn't even have to agree with one specific menu. Fairfax Fare serves chicken and ribs, Rosie's serves burgers and chicken tenders, Catalina Eddie's serves pizza, and there is a turkey leg booth there as well.

CS at DHS... is best avoided all together.

I'm with the others on the ABC Commissary. It's just disgusting. Cold, old, inedible food. Do yourself and your vacation a favor and don't risk eating there. I seriously don't understand how it stays open for as nasty as it always is.

We never make a full day at the Studios and we try to therefore avoid needing a CS meal during the hours there. We try to just snack and wait to hit another park for actual food.

It has been my experience that the Backlot Express and Starring Rolls are the only CS options worth going to. True I suppose the CS places I like to call the "Market" on Sunset Boulevard can be ok, Pizza Planet has mediocre pizzas and Min & Bills Dockside Diner has great sandwiches. But never and I mean never venture into the evils known as ABC Commissary, and Studios Catering Co. you will be very unhappy with the food and your overall experience in both. Yikes

DHS is a food wasteland

I would have to go with the assorted eateries along Sunset.

Starring Rolls can be good for coffee and ... (or Nescafe :( and .....) but it can be a crowded pain in the rear to get into.
