Movie is gonna bomb hard. "A Quiet Place Part Duex: The Search for a better place for no reason when we can live by a known waterfall" is going to make soo much money. This will be #3, Gonna be: 1. Quiet Place Part Duex, 2. Fast and Furious we've run out of ideas so let's go to space because why not? 3. Cruella re-make no one wanted with a miscast actress. That will be the weekend box office lineup.

I liked Cruella. It has a wonderful campy tone for the most part, right in line with The Devil Wears Prada. Music is great, action is fine (one too many car chases for my liking), but I wish they leaned into the anarchy a bit more; there's a movie in here that could've been much less forgiving of her, and we got a watered down version of that.

Fashion is easily the highlight of this movie though, enough to get a Costume Design nom at least.

Cruella was ok. Mediocre writing for a film in search for a point. Emma Stone’s accent is RDJ-in-Sherlock Holmes bad, Emma Thompson is great, high production values.

We loved it. Great acting, great soundtrack, funny supporting cast, and a very good origin story that no one really asked for. One of the better live action movies based on a cartoon.

Just finished watching Cruella at the theaters! Yes, it’s flawed in the script and editing department. However, it’s fun, camp, and messy (in a good way). I really had a fun time watching this.

Haven't' seen the movie yet, but the reason for Cruella hating dalmatians has already been spoiled for me by everyone online laughing about how stupid it is.

Agreed! I'd say it's a good movie. Not bad, not great, but good. It could have been edited down for sure.

I'm not even really sure the 101 Dalmatians plot exists in this movie. It's more like an adaptation than a prequel to the animated film. I think the plot of 101 Dalmations is more hearsay than something that actually happens in this retelling.

If you are looking to link them prepared to be annoyed, but otherwise it's alright as its own thing.

Well that's the thing... it's not.

This Cruella actually seems to like dogs straight through to the end of the movie. And dalmatians killing her mother IS groan worthy, but I think it was partially redeemed by the twist-within-a-twist that the dogs were specifically sent to knock her mother over the edge. For most of the movie, they play it as the dogs were chasing Cruella, and they accidentally knock the mother over. They use the dalmatians killing her mom as a fake-out to make you think she kills those specific dogs later, but she doesn't.

Cruella:

Rotten Tomatoes "Fresh": 72
Avg Critic (RT & Metacritic) Rating: 63
Avg Audience Rating: 75
Cinemascore: A

[These are good scores.]

Budget: $100M (theatrical break-even would be $300M)
Box Office World: $42.6M
It'll be a few weeks before we get Nielsen numbers.

Watched last night, it was fun!
Loved the excellent soundtrack and I think it will be a strong contestant for Academy Award for Best Costume Design (at least).

If you do love the bad guys, you might want to take a look onto this project:

My daughter and I saw Cruella on Sunday and enjoyed it very much. It's great for what it is: a campy, cool origin story with beautiful costuming and a great soundtrack.

Anyone expecting the pithy wit of Shakespeare in Love or the heartrending excellence of Schindler's List will be disappointed, but I don't think every movie has to be a cinematic 7-course meal. Sometimes you just want a decadent, beautiful confection, even if it lacks real substance, or starts to fall apart if you chew on it for too long. Cruella fits the bill.

This flick does look visually amazing. But yeah, the Dalmatian connection does seem lame as written. Spoilers ahead:

As I understand it, Cruella gives Dalmatian puppies to Roger and Anita. Why?? Dalmatians killed her mother (albeit accidentally? I think?) Seems to me that this would make more sense: Cruella pursues the dogs who killed her mother. Finds them with puppies. She steals the puppies, meaning to drown them. Is pursued and tosses the bag holding the puppies away. Stranger finds puppies, takes pity on them, and gives them to a pet shop. Roger and Anita each buy a puppy, names them Pongo and Perdita. The end.

By the way, I liked the movie. Best live action Disney movie so far. It beats Cinderella.

Actually I thought that character was extremely appropriate for the movie and the role he played! There was zero political agenda being pushed in this movie so this guy is definitely making something out of nothing! I personally loved the movie . I thought the 2 Emma's were fabulous, the costuming was excellent and the music was ridiculous in a good way!!!

He is a wanna be politician trying to do anything to get his name out in the news. Usually the people who make these grandiose statements are trying to hide something. ;)
