Cricut Machine

Hi everyone!

I'm Kat. I posted on a few of these threads back when we were just getting this topic started; though life got a little busy and I haven't been able to do ANY scrapbooking in quite a few months. :( I'm hoping this will change...

DH just bought me a Cricut yesterday at Hobby Lobby! (It was on sale) A very good friend of mine has one, so I'm going to take the cartridges I also bought (Animal Kingdom and Disney Princess--Happily Ever After) over to her house on Thursday and she's going to give me a crash course!

I look forward to chatting with you all again and getting helpful info and tips.

What glue does everyone prefer for putting together your Cricut characters? I found last night that the glue stick I had got all over the edges of the pieces I was putting together. Any advice?

I have used glue stick, liquid glue and tape runner. Liquid glue like Mono works best, but sometimes you have hold the pieces down for them to stick. It does tend to glump up on the edges some, but just wipe off. Xyron has an adhesive eraser that works good on getting the shiny parts off. Small pieces need the liquid glue. I tried using a glue stick and toothpick and that didn't work well. I am going to be working on a lot of Mulan eyes this weekend and I think I am going to squirt out the liquid glue on a paper plate and use my trusty toothpick again to apply just a little.

This is a good thread over on the Cricut board on the different types people use with the princess cartridges.

I have been using one of the zig pens that is really tiny. It has a very tiny tip and you can squeeze out the amount of glue you want. It works pretty well, but when I have to pick up tiny pieces I usually end up getting some glue on my fingers.

I love zots for a lot of things, but for this they are too big especially for the eyes, mouth and some of the other pieces. They tend to be a little bulky as well even if not using the 3D ones. I still recommend some type of liquid glue for the small pieces. There are several brands and some in pen type shapes. Sometimes I hide the glue edges by adding glitter if that is a problem. But in general, I think the liquid glue works best for small pieces. I use the tape runner or glue stick for bigger pieces.

Thanks so much for your suggestions!
I'm not familiar with liquid glue. Which brand do you use?

I use Tombow Mono - both Aqua (blue caps on each end with clear center bottles) which is permenant and Tombow Mono Multi (Green caps on each end with white center for the bottle which is removable or permenant depending on how you apply it. Both bottles come with two tips, one is pointed and the other end is broad with like a rubber scrub brush on the end. I use the pointed end to apply to smaller areas and the broad end for bigger areas that I want to brush on the glue.

ZigZag, I think is the name, makes a version that comes in pen form that you can squeeze on the sides to have it comeout the pen. They also have a brand that is pen shaped but you press down the tip to get the glue to flow. Both I think are blue glues that dry clear. I use these a lot when I am adding glitter or working with small pieces.

I found all of these at Michael's and my local craft store. I just bought new bottles of the Mono stuff to get going. I am trying to finish up a swap I joined on the Cricut message board...I am now in 4 swaps over there for Disney Scrapbooks - I am doing Mulan for the first, Ariel for the second, Pirates of the Caribbean for the third and Piglet for the fourth. Just need the Pooh cartridges to come out to complete the forth.

The glue is running in my house and I am afraid my fingers are going to get glued together at the rate I am going. :ROFLOL:

I plan on trying to start on the PoC this weekend. Planning on using Paper Doll Cut Up. They have a cross and skull and treasure chest. Also Ocean of Words has something similiar. My World has a scroll I plan to use for the journaling box. I have all the ideas in my head, just need to get around to actually cutting them to see what I can do. I will post it when I have something.

Some of the pieces are so incredibly tiny, do you still think it would work for them?

I'll bet it would. You really can't even tell that they're individual dots. They aren't really anything like Zots. It's a sheet of paper that covered with itty bitty dots of adhesive. You place the thing you want to glue on the sheet, press down on it lightly, then lift it off. The adhesive stays on the other side and anything that gets on the front you can remove with an adhesive eraser.

I love this!!!! I have been struggling with the software. I need to find time to just sit down and play with it. I am trying to weld Cinderella into a birthday card right now.

I finished the Mulan's for the swap and should have the layout ready to go tomorrow to show it!!

The trick with welding every piece need to be checked up there in the right hand corner as a weld piece. I am at work and cannot see the screen but do you know what I mean?
