Cricut Machine

It was really easy to put together. The hardest part for me is not wasting paper. So yesterday I cut all the shadows in black for about 5 different poses. Then I cut out all the red pieces, yellow pieces, white pieces, etc. and put them in individual baggies labeled with which page they went with and the sized I cut them. I have to run out and get a good color of paper for the tongue to finish.

Here is another part I got hung up on. The book does not show the white pieces...meaning they leave that section blank since the page is also white. If a shape is not available they put not available in the spot. So when I wanted the white pieces I had a hard time right off knowing which one to press until I figured out they printed the white cutouts on white paper so you could not see them. Once I got past that it was a breeze.

I will finish the tongues on the two I got done last night and scan them in to view. I have more cut out I need to put together so I will post those when I have them finished as well.

So do you only cut the pieces out you want in that color? I was picturing having to cut an entire Mickey in each color and cutting out the pieces. That would be much easier!

OH, no!! You just cut out the pieces you need. There is a button for outfit that cuts his pants out. One for shoes, which cuts out his shoes. The white parts are what got me the first time. These are like the buttons on his pants, whites of his eyes and gloves. You take all theses different pieces and glue them to the black shadown piece. I ran a few through my sticker maker and used liquid glue on a few other pieces - the eyes are so small at times.

So I spent yesterday morning cutting out the shadow in black for the body. Then I loaded a red piece and cut out pants for all my shadows. Then loaded yellow to cut out shoes. Then white for gloves and eyes. I put all the pieces in separate baggies and labeled them. I must have cut out 10 sets of 5 poses which are laying on my floor right now.

It was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Now I want to get creative with some of the outfit pieces. I have seen where people change Minnie's dress and bow so you don't have to use the red and white polka dot paper all the time. This is going to be so much fun!

Okay that's awesome. The way I was picturing would have been SO much work!! Worth it I'm sure, but the real way is so much better!! I NEED one of these!:D

Ok guys, I'm throwing myself a pity party and wanted to invite all of you.

Well, some of you know I got a Cricut from ebay about 3 weeks or so ago. I made a deal with dh that I wouldn't use it until I did a little "spring cleaning" in our closet and got our bedroom back into shape. So after trashing a dozen pair of old shoes (and I mean old) and a trash bag full of clothing, I got the stuff (mostly craft related) off the floor in the bedroom and found a home for everything. :sohappy: So I'm thinking I am a mere day away from being able to lock myself in front of my craft cabinet and use that little bug until I can't see straight.

Well.....my step-daughter apparently caught a stomach bug or something. :hurl: And to make a long story short, I am going to have to spend the next day or so cleaning carpets. DH is getting a carpet cleaner at Home Depot on the way home.

I tell you if I don't get to use my Cricut by the weekend, I may have to run away from home with my machine. I'm sure there are outlets in a hotel room somewhere nearby.

Sorry for the rant! Just didn't want you guys to miss out on my little party.:lookaroun

Here are the ones I have finished so far. Wish I had more time to work on the others tonight, but will have to put those off until lunch tomorrow or Wednesday night. Summer is pretty busy around here.

Scans aren't the best so I will try to take pictures of them in the sun soon.

Thanks Tammy, I knew you would be there for me. I was curious about how you cut all those pieces too so I'm glad you beat me to the question.

Shari, thanks for sharing Mickey with us and the explanation. It is so hard to keep myself from getting the Disney cartridge. I have to be good though. My birthday money is long gone. Is it too early to start a Christmas list?:lookaroun

Well, at the end of the day things are looking pretty good. I should be testing out the Cricut by Wednesday, I think.

Thanks for the pixie dust Shari, I need it!

Ok, I need some advice. I was just looking up the cricut machine online and I found two different ones. One is just the regular one that cuts things. Then, I found another one that has ink cartridges that says it will cut or print. Do I want that one? Do I need to be able to print? I don't want to spend a lot of money on something to have it become obsolete. The cartridges will work on either one, right? Thanks for the advice!

I know there is a Cricut (like mine) that cuts 12x6 paper up to 5 1/2". This is priced around $194 (Walmart) to $299 elsewhere.

Then there is Cricut Expressions. I believe it goes up to 12x24 paper. It runs between $350-$400.

Here is the announcement of Cricut Colors I got in the Cricut newsletter (June 4, 2007 - Volume 54).

Announcements- "Cricut Colors"

Cricut Color™ Inks (markers) expand the possibilities and versatility of the Cricut. You will be able to use the Cricut cartridges in conjunction with your inks to draw your favorite shapes! Cricut Color Inks will be shown at this summer’s CHA show in Chicago. More details including colors, availability, and pricing will be available at that time. The Cricut Color Inks are the same size, and are interchangeable with the blade housing. Simply remove the blade housing, and insert the marker.

I haven't heard any more since then, but I thought QVC was selling the regular Cricut with the pens now. I am still waiting to see, but I figure they will be made available soon for everyone who already bought a Cricut. CHA in IL is supposed to be July20-22, so I hope it comes soon after that.

Also, the cartridges work in both the regular Cricut and the Expressions Cricut. The beauty is making cuts bigger on the new one - especially bags which are a little small on the original Cricut.

And to let you know...I am drooling over the Expressions machine, but I cannot justfy the cost...even if I save up my money from Christmas this year.

Thank you for the explanation! I think that the regular one will be just fine for me. Would I be able to take my own 12x12 paper and cut it to 6x12 and use it?

I got mine on ebay for $135 + $15 for shipping. It looks like the company I bought mine from is raising their starting bid price though, so I think I got really lucky.

Don't you love birthday cash?:D

That is what I do. I just went and bought some more 12 x 12 cardstock at lunch. I will cut it in half and it is ready to go in mine. Cricut sales pad already like that. I haven't done the math to see if they are good deal or not. I usually just buy my 12 x 12 outright since I can use it for so much more.

I sure do! :)

And thanks, Shari for the tips with paper!
