Ah...ineptitude. It was revealed today that the administration has been lying about its ā€œstockpileā€ of 2nd COVID-19 vaccine doses to be released this week. In fact, they started releasing these doses last year. There is no stockpile and states will not receive extra vaccine. That is a problem as many states adjusted their distribution plan based upon this promise.

Is it 1/20 yet?

The article I read about that is kind of confusing. It seems like there is a stockpile, but it's still meant for second doses only? So nothing has really changed.

Edit: https://www.nytimes.com/live/2021/0...about-how-vaccines-will-be-released-to-states
For clarity this is the article I read, but I peaked at some others and it looks like this one wasn't quite right. Or I just read wrong.
Regardless, it seems like people were mislead into believing there was going to be a lot of first-doses being sent to the states here soon when it was known that wasn't the case.

Right. And the criticism leveled from the feds to the states is misplaced. 31 million doses have been distributed, but thatā€™s enough for 15.5 million people. The states (thank goodness) held back 2nd doses.

10.5 million people have received at least 1 dose, but thereā€™s a delay in reporting shots into arms and it takes time to schedule injections for new doses that just arrived. The states have already administered 67% of the doses on hand today. Thatā€™s hardly a failure; any failure is on the administration over promising how much would be distributed.

Woah, I never said anything about the states failing. I was just talking about what was going on with the stockpile. I was just finding it confusing to figure out what was actually going on- as in, whether there was no stockpile or there was a stockpile and it's being used for second doses. Which is mostly my fault for looking at vaccine news while I'm also in class haha.

But I never brought up the states' vaccination rate.

No, you didnā€™t. There has been a very vocal attack on the states from the administration, trying to blame them for the ā€œslowā€ rollout. Even Fauci (who I expect was under the impression that half the doses were in the stockpile, as promised).

Iā€™m pointing out the states are doing fine.

Cuomo has failed miserble. If you disagree, you are just playing politics. The mayor of Nyc has even ripped him for his complete failures. Stop. Itā€™s embarrassing.

Some states are doing worse than others, but they also sent out the warning months ago that they were going to need significant help from the federal government to make the vaccine rollout work.

You should read up about NY then because heā€™s doing everything possible to f it up. No different than him sending seniors to nursing homes to kill people. I donā€™t know every state and wonā€™t pretend I do but the state of NY has failed completely and it has nothing to do with the feds

Sir, you need to cover up your bias. We are in public and there are children here.

Yes, I have read some criticism of Cuomo, but at least he knows how many doses he has. The federal government is šŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™‚ļøšŸ¤·ā€ā™€ļø

Havenā€™t been posting much lately because Iā€™ve been extremely busy but I received my second Pfizer dose this past Monday. Word of advice, plan on feeling a bit lousy for 1-2 days after the second dose. I had body aches, headache, chills, and runny nose for about 36 hours after the shot. One of my partners had a similar response. Two of my partners had no issues whatsoever. I feel fine now but am looking forward to my new found immunity.

Ugh not 2 threads turned political. There is another if people want to go that way.

Unfortunately, vaccine rollout IS political, now. The scientists did their part. Now the politicians need to get doses to us. Sorry for posting facts? Yesterdayā€™s developments are a big issue for some states who have committed to appointments they wonā€™t have vaccine to cover.

How about some good news. IHME has good data and statistical models, if nothing else, and predicts well under half of us will still be susceptible to COVID-19 by May 1 with some states already approaching herd immunity by then. Letā€™s hope.

We wonā€™t talk about their death forecast since no one cares about our daily 9/11 anymore.

And there is a thread for that. I enjoy discussing the vaccine but it would be nice if 2 threads were not the same.

That's good. Is that assuming vaccination at the same place we're going now or with a gradual increase?

Same with me, minus the runny nose and the symptoms only lasted about 8-10 hours. The only symptom that lingered longer was some lymph node swelling, but that resolved too.
