Cost of attractions

I was just looking up different E-ticket costs, and it seams like theres more speculation then fact, so i was wondering if someone could help shead some light on the situation.

Jurassic Park- 110 million
Mission:Space- 120 million
Indiana Jones (DL)- 120 million
Test Track- 70 million
Twilight zone tower of terror- 100+ million
Expedition everest- 120+ million
Spiderman - 100 million

My first question is why was indiana jones in DL so expensive, wasnt it built like an uber long time ago and isnt it basically like Dinosaur? It doesnt seam to me like the cost should have been THAT high. And if all of those numbers are correct that makes EE the most expensive attraction ever built?

Indiana Jones makes sense. I believe it has more details in both the queue and the ride itself. From what I've seen of Dinosaur, it doesn't have QUITE as much to look at as Indiana Jones.
And EE also makes sense. Again, LOTS of little details, most of them in a really big hand made mountain and a giant audio animatronic yeti

Dino doesn't have close to half as much to look at as Indy.

As for the attraction costs, there's been talk that WDI burns through cash like it's going out of style, and many of the costs are incredibly inflated.

Pooh's Hunny Hunt at TDL cost more than $130 million apparently, but the new Monsters Inc ride there cost $88 million. I call that effective spending.

The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at DLR cost $30 million. I'm trying to find prices on smaller scale attractions like it but I'm not having much luck.

The Behemoth coaster at Wonderland cost $10 million to build. Considering it's huge size, I'm quite impressed with that relatively low cost.

You do have to wonder who does procurement for Disney, Id hazard a guess its someone that used to buy for the Ministry of Defence. While the themeing may be great you do have to question the costs Disney is paying.

If they are telling the truth about levels of investment of course.............:lookaroun

M:S was the most expensive ever to that point, so it being lower than Indy is wrong. Also, I'm sure that ToT was tons less than $100m, because it was built so long ago.

For Indy, factor in:

- R&D on the EMV. Nice chunk of change right there.

- That queue. If you haven't seen it, you wouldn't understand. No queue at WDW is it's equal.

Dino was built on the foundation that Indy. Used the same tech, same layout...just didn't do any of it quite as well.

Mission:Space. The actual number there will likely never be known. It was way high.

Everest I don't think was quite that much.

yeah, that alone could shoot Indy's price way up. Then you've got the name rights to Indy, the voice of Indiana Jones,
and it kinda makes sense that WDI burns though cash. Walt did. At least when Roy wasn't looking :p

Personally I think that Dinosaur has amazing themeing, it's queue is just really small, so of course the queue with more room will have more oppertunity to be more grand. Now-a-day's they just dont make a temple for the queue (probably B/C of indy and the cost of it). The longest queue since then would probably be TT, which again i thought was REALLY well done

I didn't know they went loco with the cash. maybe if they were a little more frugal they would get more, but then again the higher ups hold onto so much of it, when they get a chunk there probably SOOOO excited they dont know what to do

WOW really? I've never seen it, i gotta check it out.

Yeah ive seen the costs for a lot of places stuff, and its MUCH lower than disneys, but thats b/c of the disney difference. Creating a story instead of creating a coaster

R&D?

I've seen it.....a LOT, almost 10x in 2 trips, i loved that ride THAT much. Theres only 2 rides I want from DL, the indy ride and california screamin (but only if they use the chilli peppers track, if they use that bo bo garbage its not worth the cost to bring it over here).

With Dinosaur i like what they did i just didn't think that they had the potential to create the depth. Science instute or forbidden temple?? Not all stories are created equel, but for what they have i really like it, esp the dicotomy from the front of the building, the museum like area, n then when you go backstage its a completly different animal.

Why was MS so high? Jus curious, n maybe thats why they dont have a grand scale pav complete with resturants and other D ticket attractions.

yeahhh, i didnt think about harrison fords voice tender AND giving off the cash to lucas and spielburg

Dino cost less than Indy since the ride system was cloned from Indy - the west coast ride had the R&D costs. EMVs are not cheap either.

ToT cost far more than EE. The latter is an off the shelf coaster design custom built by an outside vendor. The former is a unique solid building (not structure) with plenty of effects, 6 drop shafts, 12 AVGs, the VVCs and a lot of cuting edge tech that had to be, well, invented.

FYI, Horizons was in the region of $80m-$85m in 1983.

I put the original proposed price of Western River Expedition through the inflation calculator and it came up $300 million. I'm sure there are others factors that could increase the price even further.

Does the 70mil for Test Track seem so low because of the year it was built? I mean, it took so many years to get finished, I would think that it took a lot more than that.

Space Mountain at DLP was 100 millions US when it opened in 1995.

Raging Spirits at TDS was 80 millions US.

Expedition Everest was 100 millions US.

I heard the figure of 170-180 millions US plus for the Tokyo Tower of Terror. Would not shock me, with its level of details and special effetc.

I would probably die of shock if I saw the individual numbers for Journey to the Center of the Earth and Indiana Jones Adventure at Tokyo Disney Sea.
