The articles about the Cape Cod issue have been confusing and, in some cases, contradictory. But the parts that are consistent state that a majority of those who tested positive were vaccinated. We don't know the percent of TOTAL people who actually tested positive (or at least I haven't read that), just the % OF the positive cases that were vaccinated. That's the part that is confusing. What % of THAT population was vaccinated to start with? I'd say. being in Massachusetts, a majority of the total were vaccinated. It would be easy to read it and interpret it as "vaccinated people caught it more readily than unvaccinated" which, of course, would be untrue.

Seems the delta strain was already heavily abundant within that group during the July holiday and spread like wildfire. The key term thrown around in articles is "viral load" which also keeps popping up here. Close-knit gatherings in large numbers would keep that viral load high. Throw in a lot of drinking, touching, kissing, etc. that goes on in a party town and-boom-there ya go.

Anomaly? We'll have to see. Hopefully yes.

Yeah, that’s the light bulb that finally clicked on for me. It was not a bunch of families on vacation at the beach who had casual contact with infected people in a shop or at dinner and had breakthrough infections it was people partying, intentional transfer of saliva and lots of people packed into small locations. That’s the part I was missing. Breakthrough is breakthrough but for the average vaccinated person that type of activity is potentially uncommon or easily avoided.

I wanted another lockdown before Delta now surprisingly after I don’t think we should have one. We just need adults to stop acting like toddlers and wear masks, cover their coughs/sneezes and properly wash their hands and themselves. To bad that’s not going to happen so we’re looking at another lockdown. The government needs to do its part and provide financial assistance.

Regarding vegans and vaccines, it should be noted that the issue exists primary in the musings of certain outlets and commentators in the UK. The ensuing derision and mischaracterisation are all too predictable.

Here is an actual vegan perspective:

And if I can add a personal data point, my vegan partner didn’t hesitate to get the vaccine.

We got the notification this afternoon our district is going back to masks for everyone no matter what the vaccination status. The county recommended all districts adopt that guidance from the CDC.
We go back to school Thursday and still no change in masks optional. Vaccinated students exposed to a case still don't have to isolate and can continue attending. I don't even know if they would notify me if DD12 was exposed to a case. I'm hoping they're just dealing with the school board to discuss changes.

It’s being hyped beyond belief without context in the media. A very good article that also explains the Massachusetts breakthrough in context

“They got it wrong," she said. "The reason why the guidance is changing is that Covid-19 is spreading really quickly, Delta is a big problem, and the reason for the spread is because of the unvaccinated." Wen said the primary reason the CDC needed to change its mask guidance is because the honor system wasn't working. In other words, people who were not vaccinated were acting as if they were and not wearing masks or following other basic safety protocols...”

I just read that. What a shame.

And I hate that we are a people who just read a news headline and nothing further, then spread the hyperbole of the news headline, and so on and so on.....

Are you from the US? If so, it would be our first lockdown. Last year was a "stay at home suggestion" at best.

Also, no.

It's also being hyped beyond belief right here in this thread!

So the CDC really sent the country into a frenzy again because hundreds of men that got together on a holiday weekend?

Don’t take this to mean that delta isn’t serious, because it is. People should be getting vaccinated. Breakthrough cases will continue to happen. But what we’re seeing in Florida is the exact opposite of this Cape Cod case.

I just think it’s bizarre because the majority of vaccinated individuals aren’t sharing partners, kisses, hugs, etc with a big group in the same area over a weekend. It 100% makes sense that there was a breakthrough of cases in Cape Cod based on what we know now. The vaccines do work, but these individuals were naive to think they were full proof.

It wasn’t just the headline yesterday, the intial CNN article about the Washington Post story specifically said that vaccinated people only had a disease reduction of 3x the control, the data shows it’s 10x (90%.) I almost completely changed my behavior based on it, but thankfully I waited for the official report.

Then that's even worse!

It you think your media is bad at least they don’t read a whole various scenario report by our scientific committee and decide to focus on the very worse case scenario and how we may need to cull cats and dogs
