People need to get back to work?? Are you aware of what's going on, even in your state of FL? Some of my friends and some family have lost their jobs. You may or may not be in that situation also. To compare to homelessness death to covid impacts is sickening. During the 2008 recession, if you recall people lost jobs and their homes but the one I know had to make tough life changes to keep going. Perhaps you can think of options too.
What are you talking about? How is that sickening? Whatever you think I said you’re probably misinterpreting it. I’m not comparing the two. I’m saying that people will become homeless from the economic implosion... and when they become homeless they can absolutely die while on the streets- from infections, lack of medical care, etc. how is it sickening to point out that people who become homeless can die?

And I don’t mean back to work tomorrow. I mean back to work sooner than months and months on end. That doesn’t bode well for anyone’s jobs.

pro life- don't roam stay at home to preserve life
pro-choice- roll the dice if you feel lucky
We don’t get it. apparently.

If I’m interpreting the CARES act language correctly, you can now file for unemployment assistance on a ‘second job’ that’s been furloughed even if you are still being paid from a primary employer. This falls under the ‘temporary pandemic unemployment assistance’ program, which I believe will be administered through the state unemployment system. It’s all a little confusing at the moment because the language is dense and a lot of systems haven’t been fully updated yet to adapt to it... but there does appear to be some hope on the horizon for many people like you (and me!) that fell through the cracks previously.

Keep looking for news and updates on that once Monday morning hits and these things begin to sort out.
Omg that would be amazing!

And let me be clear- I’m not saying let this thing kill all the old people. I don’t know the solution. What I do know is that what we’ve done is going to permanently affect families in this country. Either way you look at it.

Here in NY (in Western New York, so I’m not sure if I fall into the nice comments some folks are making about people from NY), and food manufacturers and grocery stores are literally begging people to come apply for jobs. Is it not the same in Florida? I imagine your husband could find a job to replace $900 a month in those industries pretty quickly.

I am a marketing consultant, and one of my clients is a top home care agency, with locations across the US. They are desperate for both trained healthcare workers and home health aides, which require no prior experience. The pay is higher than a grocery store.

Just some ideas for those who need jobs...

Again, you don’t know that. Our stay at hone orders are until April 9. Realistically I think it will be extended by another week or two. Mid May is not out of the realm of possibility. Unless you know something the rest of us don’t?

I have rational thinking. The governor is not going to allow Disney or Universal to open up if the virus does not make substantial decreases. We have not hit the bell curve yet which is predicted to be now through mid April. I do think by early may we will see some things opening back up.

As for the Orlando stay at home. No one is following it. I was out on Alafaya last night and it was packed like a regular Saturday night.

He’s applied to 7 jobs over the last week but they’ve got probably 10,000 applications right now... so no he hasn’t heard back. He applied for a fork lift job, publix, Trader Joe’s, bjs, Costco, and 2 truck driving jobs.

however- to what end? He could get ill. There’s no good solution- but yes he has applied.

Are we now going to shut down everything because 60,000-80,000 die from the flu each year?

The ship sailed on that argument a couple hundred pages ago.

If we can get Covid to the point where our health systems have adapted and we expect that every year that covid will kill 60,000-80,000 a year and not crush our healthcare system we would accept the disease for what it is. The problem is that we are in the discovery phase of this disease and we have not yet reached a steady state of deaths and no one has immunity.

Info from a CM friend of mine who works DRC:

This is a package offer including a Free Dine Plan with the purchase of a non-discounted room and Disney Theme Park Ticket Package.
o Guests staying at Value and Moderate Resorts will receive a Free Quick Service Dine Plan with the option to upgrade to the Disney Dine Plan, Disney Dine Plan Plus or Deluxe Dine Plan.

o Guests in Deluxe and Deluxe Villa Resorts will receive a Free Disney Dine Plan with the option to upgrade to the Disney Dine Plan Plus or Deluxe Dine Plan.

o Minimum 2 night length of stay required

o Minimum any 2-Day Theme Park Ticket required

The qs dining plan is garbage. These people are probably paying more than $150 a night at a value in June to only get 2 qs meals I'm good.

I’m sorry he’s not having luck.

To your second point, and I know you’re not saying this, you’re just frustrated. But for those who keep saying it should be “back to work” - the risk of getting ill, according to them, outweighs the benefit of maintaining a lockdown.

At least in those places, with social distancing, there is some sort of order to protect people. With a free for all, everyone back to work, not so much.

Hopefully with a vaccine that number will be much smaller. Keep good thoughts

Well I want to wait a week before pulling the plug on my April 28th trip but with free dining I did get dining reservations for a June trip just in case.

There has been too much discussion on what should or should not have been done, with people showing little understanding or compassion for any opposing POV. The fact is that we are all under restrictions of varying degrees. And since none of us can see the future, it is time to focus on the here and now.

Updates on new restrictions, easing of restrictions, increased or decreased cases, and how we are dealing with things on a day to day basis will be allowed, and even encouraged.

Circular arguments with predictions about how this will end, are we doing too much/not enough, along with politics and unproven theories, will not be allowed.

People are very stressed right now, and tempers are very short. Please do not continue arguments that do nothing but rile each other up.

We all have different experiences - some may even be dealing with extremely ill family and friends, and others may have already lost someone close to us. Some of us are dealing with economic hardships caused by attempts to deal with this.

It is a difficult time for all of us, but getting into heated arguments about what is our new reality only makes the situation worse.

I find this site very good to track new cases and other daily numbers.

I use it as a barometer on the situation and make decisions on the facts.

I guess the free dining offer is a nice gesture, but it’s really the same old offer, and I’ve never found any value in it vs. the way we “do Disney.” I tend to think I’m going to save more by paying 25-30% off rooms (whether with FL resident or AP discount) and buying meals as we see fit.
