Here's what I don't get. Cruise Lines ceased operations a few weeks ago. But they didn't feel the need to interrupt existing itineraries. Some were 10, 14, 20 days. It only applied to new sailings.

Now you have a cruise ship floating off the coast of Ft Lauderdale with 4 dead and a bunch infected. Holland America should be fined out of business. (And I'm in the industry). Every cruise line exec should be publicly fired. Sorry Ms. Freed.

Same logic that Disney used to say the virus danger was so great that all resorts must be closed - but not for a few more days. "These beaches will be open for the 4th of July"

I’m sad to say that the events that are occurring have been very close to what happened in that movie “Contagion”. I’m just glad there hasn’t been looting or riots.
Well, except in that movie, if you were infected you died. This particular virus has a fatality rate of probably about <1-2% when the final data is in and the vast majority are elderly and people with pre-existing conditions. Slightly different than the instant death in that movie (although you wouldn't know it from the media stories). You do get a good lesson on how these viruses can start though in that movie - yup.

And as the unemployment continues and expands, don't be surprised on the looting. For those of us who lived through the '92 LA riots, it won't be a surprise (oh, and that was over a court case people disliked, not weeks of unemployment).

People might loot stores, but you'd have to be a full blown idiot to burgle a home right now. Second Amendment plus everyone's home 24/7 now... yeah, go ahead and try.

Cruise Lines, like the Airlines, would rather you die than lose a cent of your money.

And let's not forget every American media company happy to give away freedom of speech to China if it meant more money. Wonder if it was worth it?

That South Park episode looks more and more genius every day. China didn't just go after Winnie, they took out the whole freaking global economy with live bat soup and a side of animal torture.

Freedom of speech means the right to criticize, to suggest alternatives, to say you don't like their business practices.

It was an easy thing for them to sell out.

Not surprisingly, freedom of speech is one of two key building blocks for freedom (the other being the intrinsic, divine value of each individual). What's the price tag for that when half the world is under lockdown because doctors were arrested and forced to lie?

No, you misunderstood. The tourists have been there, in droves, prior to the lockdown last week. So what I’m asking is- Why haven't they seen a major outbreak or peak yet?

This is why I think the assumption some are making, that it was in the US earlier is wrong. Seattle & SF got cases via travelers from China in early January, so that's where the early numbers came from. The rest of the country, especially the East Coast is stemming from cases from travelers from Italy in February and later. If you trust the guy who predicted Seattle and said Italy got it in January. It took 2 months to reach the critical mass we are seeing. So if Florida got it in the Mardi Gras - Spring Break Period, and we count 2 months from that, the "critical mass" would be in mid-April-mid-May.

Which is why if you look at the predictor that has been posted, developed by my alma mater, University of Washington, BTW, it says Florida's deaths will peak on May 12.

We are still in ramp up stage, hoping that people locked down in time.

"In response to a sharp rise in cruise cancellations in February, Norwegian Cruise Line sales managers recommended employees last week to do “anything for the sale,” according to a sales employee in South Florida who asked to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation from the company. As first reported by the Miami New Times, company managers downplayed the threat of the virus internally and directed salespeople to do the same with customers."

Becker was asked to take a temporary vacation (which will probably become permanent).

Cast members have very close guest contact. If guests are coughing they’re in the line of fire. Guests touch everything and so do the cast. They’re not allowed to just go wash their hands constantly. They now have sanitation stations but that’s very recent. If this virus is so contagious hundreds of cast should already have it. It is very strange.
I agree it is strange. It is something that should be researched by the infectious disease experts so we can learn something. Maybe a ton have had asymptomatic cases.

Goes back to testing. We need both active case testing and previous case testing from those who felt ill but did not report it at the time. Personally I would like the confirmation that I did or did not have it last month.

So....It's March 28th. And I just got this:

Public Safety Alert
FL Surgeon General: Stay home if 65+ or have medical conditions. All follow social distancing.

Gee thanks. Now I guess I'll pay attention. Sometimes I wonder about our public officials.

As I work in state government, you have to understand that the purchase was entered into MyFloridaMarketPlace, coded for "COVID19" of course to track costs, then had to go through an approval flow, then an invoice had to be approved, then finally had to be implemented. Need to justify those expenditures somehow.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn’t realize it was already posted!

In fairness, one cruise line specifically instructed sales people to lie about coronavirus so they don’t lose sales. About as low as you can get in the midst of all this.
Norwegian Cruise line

I had/am having a hard time with that one... I will cruise with NCL again in the future, but I don’t think I would have been able to do so if changes weren’t made after that.

Unscrupulous sales agents? There's always a bad element. Wanting their own customers to die? I don't think so. Like you really want to eliminate your own customers putting yourself out of business. Uh huh.
