I'm suffering from it right now, I've also had the flu before... and if I were to try and describe it I would say it is like the flu though in my case my fever never went as high as it did with the flu. But both this virus and the flu impact a person's respiratory system. So it is comparable to the flu. Now it may have a higher mortality rate, but that doesn't change how it impacts a person. You are assuming that every flu virus has a lower mortality rate, they don't. The spanish flu had a very high mortality rate and the Hong Kong flu in the late 60's was also higher than usual. So you can't just assume that mortality rate will dictate whether it is like the flu or not.

Now lets go to how fast it spreads.. Does it really spread faster than the flu? Probably not. The spread of the flu each year is tempered by the fact that we have a vaccine that a large percentage of the people take. But when no vaccine is available you will have a flu cause a pandemic like the Hong Kong flu did. Those are just facts. One could argue that this is not even as bad as the flu because it doesn't seem to be nearly as deadly to little kids as the normal flu virus. It is all a matter of perspective but in general the flu is a good comparison or would you think we should compare it to chicken pox or small pox.

I live in PA but work in NJ. I haven’t been to work in over a week, but I’m just as likely to be infected as someone who lives there. I wonder if they will manage it by license or passport home address. If your address is in NY or NJ they flag you no matter what airport you fly in from. Not sure who is expected to manage that though. Each airline would need to agree to do it and/or TSA And then they would need people to haul you off to quarantine. Nobody has the extra staff to handle that. The whole thing smells like a political stunt to me
Yup, so does my brother in law and sister. They spend more time working in NJ than home in PA.
Idk if the license method would work 100% either think... college students.. some may live in other states but maintain their NJ/NY licenses.

I’m thinking it’s more of a self quarantine aimed at snow birds or family members of FL residents who may think about heading to FL to escape the NY/NJ area. After you get here stay inside for 14 days. There’s no way to actually enforce that. Trump just asked all people from the NYC metro area or who traveled there recently to self quarantine at home if they travel anywhere else. Seems like an extension of the FL plan.

To ask for all from NYC metro area to self quarantine. Does that include NYC police, fire dept, grocery, liquor, pharmacy, auto repair, dining take out, and other essential services in NYC?

No, he’s saying if you leave NYC and travel elsewhere self quarantine for 14 days or if you have been to NYC recently and returned home, same thing.

I know this much: If I wasn’t going to change my plans to visit my folks in Jacksonville before, I am now. Ain’t no way in hell I’m sharing the road with possibly infected people from the NY metro area. (I’m thinking of rest areas, Busy Bee in Live Oak, etc.)

Last day physically at work for me for two weeks. I filled out paperwork and left boxes of bunny suits, shoe covers, and bouffant caps to donate. We may even have some N95 masks. Those aren’t in my area though. I’ll be curious to see if all those things are in my office when I return.

As someone from the Tri-State Area, folks up here REALLY need to assume they either have Covid-19 or will within the next 6 weeks and take a breather. Everything is closing up here anyway. Stay in your house as much as possible and be extra careful slicing strawberries as the hospitals really need to focus on the task at hand!

Universal Studios Singapore is also the last Universal park to not be owned or operated by Universal.

Not correct. Not soley owned or operated. More similar to Disney and Hong Kong/Shanghai than a TDL situationThey are half or more invested with support from another company.
Parks and Resorts still gets revenue from it where as Shanghai and Hong Kong have (especially the last four months) been a loss for Disney.

Is anyone tired of sheltering-in-place with the same people for over a week yet?

Not necessarily, though this is no different then summer for us. We have three boys, two of whom go to school. I WFH and my wife is a SAHM. So we are used to being together every day, all day (for the most part). Our day to day hasn’t really changed.

The two oldest boys being home does change the dynamic as we usually have more time to ourselves and with our two year old. Still, we were only two months away from the start of summer anyways for us.

Not yet. I actually like my wife and have had a lot of fun with my boys. I just need them to be less physical so we stay out of the hospital!

I predict a spike in divorces after this all is done...no better way to learn you don’t like someone and they are useless in a crisis!
