I’ve now officially been told not to go to work from tomorrow. I work for a company that has departments whose job it is to know what’s going on.

No confirmed news yet, and I hope they’re wrong, but there’s potential I won’t go back until the end of May. And we’re meant to be “ahead” of the US.

I hope for you that such a far away date is not set in stone yet. Hopefully they’ll do a 2 week reassessment cycle.

It's times like these I wish I would have invested in that mack-daddy RV. I'd be smack dab in the middle of Yellowstone right about now. But with my luck, it would erupt the day after I got there.

This can’t happen. It’s not right. Cities/States/Counties can’t start closing parks. Too many people need them.

I have a relatively large yard for my area..but there’s so many people who have tiny yards or live in apartments, townhomes, or condos who need to be able to go somewhere to get exercise.

If I am off the next couple of weeks, we are going to finally complete all of the county parks in the 3 counties around us...I’ll bring our bikes and blades. We’ll probably go to Red River Gorge or Hocking Hills if it’s nice enough next weekend, maybe try to do a weekend hiking trip each weekend during the closures. Maybe I’ll even find a spot to finally take my Wrangler off road.

My brain has been going over anything possible we can do.. and I can’t imagine if parks weren’t an option.
Parks are a great option, especially large parks where people can spread out. My township closed our largest park for everything but walking. The playground, workout areas, sports fields and all facilities are closed but people are free to use the walking trail. If too many people were to show up I imagine they would just shut it down, but so far so good. The only issue is bathrooms and any other facilities would be closed so plan ahead if you do go further from home.

I haven't kept up on the news over there but are companies still paying even during the downtime?

On a completely different note (and just a conversation piece for work from home stuff), an email was sent out this past Friday with statistics on the move from in office to work from home for departments that typically in office only. I gotta say, it's impressive and really makes a good point to invest in IT. Minimal issues even though loads have staggeringly increased across everything.

The government has guaranteed to pay 80% of wages up to a monthly limit. And this will also apply to companies who have already laid off staff if they re-employ them. It applies for 8 weeks.

This thread seems to have grown as fast as the virus is spreading.

All people can survive without entertainment, but not all people will survive if this keeps spreading.

The only way to ensure it doesn't spread is to keep people away from the virus being shed by others who may not even be aware they've got it (the young in particular).

Then people should respect what is being asked of them - they are not. If they were, the parks wouldn't be closing.

Good observation. However, not every person can be controlled without consequences. Whatever level park that was should try to control it. Give out fines once.. that should solve the problem from happening again. too many other people need it.

I was really paranoid that I had it. Had a really bad cough which is only starting to go away, difficulty breathing (I ran 15 seconds to the mailbox and was panting) and really weird muscle aches. I didn’t experience any of the other symptoms (sore throat, chills, fever, etc.), so it’s very likely it was something else. Still better to be safe and self quarantine, which I did.

That being said, I’m confused as all h*** about what I did have. I’ve never had a cold like that before.

Hope you are feeling better.
I wouldn’t be so sure you didn’t have it. I suppose it doesn’t matter as long as you’re improving and self-isolated.

Being outside and exercise is and should be encouraged.
Police should make a sweep once, put the consequences on the news or on the daily state wide update.

Exactly. The tidal basin would still be open to people to drive through and see the blossoms if people hadn’t been selfish and had to get out and congregate in such large numbers as they did yesterday. And the picture of the cherry tree that had to be removed because people had to climb on it?! (The tree broke at the trunk because cherry trees are fragile, and the tree couldn’t be saved). Just Pure selfishness.

I think its very dubious to point or shame people not buying into the POTENTIAL for what would happen... while ignoring the whole PROBABILITY aspect of things at the same time. People don't dismiss what the experts say about the disease, how it spreads, etc... what people do is doubt the probability of it actually happening and playing out to the worst case scenario.

For most people, that's human nature... conditioned by the countless examples that preceded it that did NOT play out to the worst case scenario. That makes it difficult for people to get on board with 'this is happening...' before they actually see it happening.

What is more difficult to justify is when people are slow to respond when it actually starts happening. There the line between 'optimism' and 'denial' is often very murky until it gets really bad.

You’re absolutely right. Really, your last paragraph is what I should be focusing on rather the blame I’m throwing in hindsight.

I hope the various parks/government looks for solutions rather than just stating the obvious selfishness and closing everything for weeks.

It absolutely can happen, and it's going to start happening in Ohio if people can't get their act together and stay home. The governor said it himself; starting Monday, limiting contact and staying away from groups is no longer a recommendation. It's an order. Parks can stay open only if we all act with common sense and maintain that 6ft distance.

Yeah, it seems like there’s a lot of symptoms but depending on the person you get some but typically not all are significant.
The "burning lungs" and fever are the most common complaint I've seen so far (take that with a grain of salt though as the number of people I've actually seen write about what it feels like are relatively few).

And though I certainly understand how jarring all of this is, I will say again, we have more options for entertainment at home (and education, and communication with others) than at any time in human history.
Right?! I was just thinking about how incredibly easy we have it as opposed to as if we didn't have any of the current technology. Imagine self isolation if we had no streaming services, cable, social media, internet, even the abilty to order takeout for delivery or groceries dropped at our door.
