This is the current biggest obstacle.

If Republicans don’t want to be vilified, they should collectively make smarter decisions regarding the vaccine.
They definitely do not care what people think of them

@GoofGoof are we getting to herd immunity by months as anti vaxxers will be forced to get vaccines as new variants will be more dangerous in the future?
What this is supposed to mean in USA? More future variants will getting worse?
Biden is thinking that by July 1st we'll have vaccinated many more people - and he's right.

Don't worry about variants - the worst case scenario is that the vaccines need to be altered and we'll need another shot. We don't want that to happen, but we can deal with it if it does.

And posts like this continue to make my point.

As long as both sides continue to attack the other, how do we ever reach herd immunity?

How about we work together to come up with ideas to solve the problem, rather than score points with our buddies by vilifying the other side?

This is not a problem that can be solved with 51 votes in the Senate. We cannot end the filibuster on this.

Whatever political persuasion, we need somewhere between 70 to 85% to “vote” for this.

I look forward to reading your thoughts on how we can work together to get the vaccination rate up. :)

^ that worse case scenario won't be happen. Even anti vaxxers will listen that one so they will get a vaccine. @ImperfectPixie is we are getting a true herd immunity soon.

Or, in practice, CMs could stop trying to enforce it.

and be fired immediately if that’s against the policy. It’s a “job”...not a opinion/focus group for all of ‘Merica

Disney can pop up all kinds of rule warnings in MDE. Also, have a ton of signage at the entrances about the rules and zero tolerance. I know it won't eliminate all issues but it should help with most people.

the parks are in compliance...and if that’s not the case...issue refunds and exit directions

NJ is reportedly opening up pretty much 100% on May 19th, with "social distancing indoors and masks still required", even though capacity limits at restaurants will not be restricted. Yeah, those two things will live in perfect harmony.

I'm still staying hunkered down unless I am with those fully immunized. I'll walk outside without a mask off my property, but still stay a decent distance from people and keep good habits.
I think the governors of NY, NJ and CT are at a point where since vaccine demand is low enough that walk-ins are now welcomed at most if not all the mega sites in the state and if even after that people are still voluntarily not getting vaccinated, there is nothing else to be done. I think the only things left are that employers may start to require it and to get the FDA to sign off on the Emergency Use Authorization and just get at least the Moderna and Pfizer ones approved. What else might they be waiting for? A larger sample?
Since it’s New Jersey...two things:

1. If the cdc goes to 3 feet...then it essentially eliminates distancing. Cause I never wanted anyone up in the grill like that anyway.
2. Ironic that “full open” comes just before the start of summer...when the state and towns glean about $4-5 billion in tax revenue each year? If you believe in coincidence.

but in seriousness...have it on good here say authority that they expect to get the vaxx numbers up...combined with the weather...combined with case drop/already exposed...to be pretty much flat by mid summer.

well laid olans

is there some science behind the 50% or is that some arbitrary number
is it what Israel has done?
just curious
In Israel the first major inflection point happened when they hit about 45% of the population vaccinated with 1 shot in mid-Feb timeframe and cases started a spiral downward. The cases really bottomed out around 55% of the population with 1 shot. This was total population not 16+. We are a few days away from hitting the 45% of the population with 1 shot level. No guarantee we follow the same path but let’s hope so 👍👍👍

And that is why I said this:

And how do I know that before the vaccines are available to younger children? Because the vaccine wouldn't be approved for them unless the trials showed that the vaccine is less a risk than getting COVID.

i’ve got 99/1 odds that they will be proven to be safe and effective...because it’s working for everyone else.

It's not arbitrary so much as that is when there is enough vaccine-induced immunity combined with infection-acquired immunity that acts as a firewall to drive down the reproduction rate/ hinder transmission. I'm sure that there is a better data viz simulation of this, but if you look on the second page, it shows the image of how it works, because of the distribution of immune and susceptible.

ETA: Here's a graphic that might better illustrate why they think it's 50%.

They also had a very low seroprevalence before the vaccine so we can be encouraged that in regions with high levels of previous infection 45% should make a huge difference. I’m hopeful!

How much progress can be linked directly to the vaccine performance versus natural herd immunity versus seasonal patterns? Can you direct me to sources? My state is staying in a much higher range than desired for cases. Mask mandates are firmly in place and high vaccine compliance. I don't understand why higher stakes businesses shouldn't use an abundance of caution until we see results. I think that's more important than reaching a percentage goal of vaccinated people. I want to see that it's working. The last thing anyone should want is for any measure we do to be for nothing. I still think July is a reasonable time to see restrictions removed in every state but I wouldn't blame companies like Disney for dragging a little behind that.

I don't think it's right for Disney to keep putting CMs in the position of enforcing it when they will bear the brunt from people who don't like it. There are other ways of encouraging compliance like verbal narration and visual cues.

One side need to stop denying science and seeding doubt in the safety of the vaccines that the medical community almost universally endorses, and since that side pretty much only listens to one specific populist blowhard, he needs to do more to instill confidence and faith in a vaccine, far more than what he’s done currently.

This will cease to become a partisan issue when one side makes it less partisan.

I'm scared about the future, now we won't get herd immunity soon. Then variants will getting worse and we will never go back to normal as masks and social distancing will go forever....:(😭
