Not at all the same thing or reason why. The government ignored issues at hand so marginalized tend to vote blue to attempt to have the govt step in and give equality. Like in rights, marriages and voting and sorta important stuff like that. Medical distrust is a whole other legit issue many struggle with.
When Obama had the house and 60 votes in the Senate, the blue folks really took action to "give" equality to marginalized folks.

Don't be offended by my quotes. I put "give" in quotes because the government doesn't "give" equality to anyone. Whether you want to accept it or not, the overwhelming vast majority of people see everyone as being equal.

If you put a referendum on the ballot that asked if minorities should have fewer rights, it would get a very low percentage of votes even in the flyover states. Sure there are a small percentage of ignorant morons who would vote for that but they don't remotely have power and haven't in a half century.

You really have a privileged view - if I thought you'd listen or believe why it ain't equal, and personal stories proving (not to mention systemic issues, which does hold people back), I would. But you won't so I won't bother nor will I reply to you again. Teaching white people about racism is exhausting and I am sooo very exhausted. Have a nice day.

The "60 votes" window only existed for 4 months. The period in which Democrat Paul Kirk served temporarily as the Senator of Massachusetts following the death of Ted Kennedy August 25, 2009 and when Republican Scott Brown was elected and took office in January. Due to legal proceedings, Al Franken was not seated until July 9, 2009 and Ted Kennedy did not participate in any Senate proceedings following his January seizure. During Obama's first 6 months he was really only at 58 (and 57 to start because Arlen Spector didn't switch parties until April)

It was within this 4-month window that the ACA had the 60 votes it needed to reach cloture in the Senate, the actual cloture vote occurring December 23, 2009, after which the final vote on the bill could be scheduled. This vote did not occur until after Brown's election closing the window at 59, but floor votes only require 51.

Most people who know the timeline, the health of Ted Kennedy and the contested Minnesota seat would never insinuate that Obama had the control which is implied by your statement. So I can only assume you don't believe the ACA lead to greater equality for marginalized folks. Or maybe your statement wasn't made in good faith?

October/November 2019 in China would be 16 months ago.

Even in the US, it is likely that COVID-19 was present early on. Florida had cases with COVID-like symptoms as early as December 2019 and January 2020, which coincides with all of the holiday tourists that we see in the state. HPIV (Parainfluenza) can have similar symptoms in severe cases, but it is not really an adult disease and it usually is not severe. I do not believe that it has the long term symptoms that some people experience with COVID either.

This article was probably posted back on post 2000 or so, and it has a lot of politics embedded, but in case you have not read it...

Miami Herald Article
Sorry I thought you were talking a solid 16 months in the US not possibly elsewhere. My mistake.

Looks like there's been a little bit of slow-down for the first dose lately. Is this because Florida is starting to run out of people in the current eligibility group (noticing the numbers are generally higher now for the second dose)? Or due to delayed reporting? Or due to FL running out of willing recipients in the current eligibility group? Any Floridians have some ideas?

I anecdotally know a few people in FL who are eligible but still can’t find appointments so I don’t think they are out of people yet.

It continues to be an inability to snag an appointment for the first dose.

"Publix this week will begin offering the coronavirus vaccine at almost all of its grocery stores in Orange, Seminole, Lake, Osceola and Volusia counties.

The Lakeland-based chain released the list of stores Tuesday. It has about 125 stores in those counties, and 113 of them will be offering the vaccine.

The company said in a news release it will be distributing vaccines provided by both the state and the federal government in 593 pharmacies in 41 counties in Florida. The vaccines will be available to people 65 and older based on state guidelines."

"The reservation system for appointments will open at 7 a.m. Wednesday for appointments on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Publix will offer about 55,000 appointments Wednesday, spokeswoman Maria Brous said.

It will open again at 7 a.m. on Friday for appointments on Monday and Tuesday and at 7 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 15, for appointments on Feb. 17 and 18."

Someone earlier (Disney Experience, maybe?), postulated that the first dose slowdown might be due to supply constraints and ensuring supply for second doses. That, until shipments truly ramp up this month, we might see an "ebb and flow" of high Dose 2 : Dose 1 ratio followed by a period of higher 1:2 as the current wave that needs #2 in a couple weeks balances out and allows more first dose appointments to be available. FL is certainly doing more vaccines overall week over week.

Makes sense. Time will tell.

Chiming in too, my 73 year old Dad is looking for a FL appointment. He isn't doing the "call everyone daily thing," and is relying on the online registrations. His experience so far is that by the time he sees the notification there are appointments available, there is no longer availability. I'm supposed to wake up for the 5AM (my time) to try and do the Publix thing tomorrow as a backup incase he oversleeps.

Hopefully, the greater Publix availability, and Walmart availability in the Orlando area will help. He's near the border between Orange/Lake. He was willing to drive to counties north or east with vaccines, but hopefully he won't have to.

Someone posted this earlier but I didn’t see any conversation about it
What’s the deal with the SA variant?
It’s like it’s on a losing streak at home, is it better on the road? Or did it quit?

Still a dosage bottleneck. Manatee county (just south of Tampa) has a little over 100,000 people in its vaccine pool. The county received 5,100 doses for this week. You will find similar results in the other counties in the state.

Now, this is 5x's better than a month ago, when they were doing 1,000/week. If they make similar improvements this month then @GoofGoof will be proven correct with his timeline.

Publix just announced that they will have 50,000 appointments in about 600 of its pharmacies starting next week, or about 100 shots per pharmacy per week. It is not a huge number to start with, but logistically the pharmacies are much more scalable than the drive thru county sites, so once the bugs are worked out this will probably be the way that shots get to most people. Same as the flu shot.

Make sure he is registered on the state site here

I got into the Publix site a couple of times and selected my first dose only to be told after selecting my second dose that my first dose was gone! Beyond frustrating design., they should lock the first dose til you make the second selection.

Yep that was my postulation ( cyclic between dose 1 and 2) unless overall supply increase ( in time it will)
