Yes I will say before the adults throw a temper tantrum that I am sure they will not be mandated forever-more.

But I really think social pressure to mask up if you have a cold could be a positive societal change. It's bad for business, but I am serious, it's really made a huge difference to paediatric morbidity this year.

If anything people will learn that it shouldn't be "normal" to slober all over your friends and give them your viruses. I think we pretty much were all historically guilty of this. Most of us practiced presenteeism.

Yes, I added to my post after you quoted.

I'm completely on board for people wearing masks if sick. They should. But I wouldn't go as far as requiring it, I just hope they would do it. I think a lot will.

But on flipside, I don't want to wear one if I'm not sick. :)

I personally think the JnJ can be an intermediate vaccine while waiting for Pfizer and Moderna to have widespread availability to the less vulnerable. We still don't know how long any of them will provide immunity, but I'd rather have a lower efficacy sooner, and be able to pretty much upgrade at a later date.

At the very least and hindsight 20/20 why were people not asked to wear masks at least in doctors offices? Kinda seems an obvious thing to do now, if I'm at a doctors office I already feel horrible, why share?

I haven’t been in a doctor’s office or hospital in more than a decade that did not require people with cold or flu symptoms to wear a mask. I’ve lived in multiple locations and had a period where I was seeing too many doctors, so I’ve been surprised that this was not the norm.

Yeah...there is no conceivable reason to not mask if you are sick...

...or more importantly...STAY HOME.

Temporary and tolerable

There are still tens of thousands of flu deaths in this country from seasonal flu.
If masks as worn by the general public are effective in reducing the spread of virus's, why not impose them for seasonal flu use?
What's the acceptable death rate?
10 thousand and then masks?
20 thousand?
40 thousand?

40 thousand.

Feel better, that’s an answer.

That’s roughly 150 people a day. We're at roughly 4,000 a day right now.

Let’s talk less mitigation efforts when we’re below at least 200.

(Ignoring other impacts for simplicity.)

And which country do you live in because it is most definitely not the United States.

Will be calling Disney in the next week to see what they can do for us.

Despite all the postponements and numerous re-bookings, looks like we just have no choice but to sadly cancel with the new measures in place. Travelling from Toronto.

Hopefully the points we rented for Polynesian we can put into RCI and rebook when the time is right thru them. Restaurants we can easily cancel....for the 4th? 5th? time now.

Been so SO excited for this dream Disney trip on and off for 2 years now but NOW is time to just throw in the towel and admit it's not happening anytime soon.

So I guess where my worries are now, is with our purchased Magic Bands and our 8-Day tickets?!?! Obviously we want to go but with the new restrictions we're forced not to. Anyone think they will refund the tickets or bands or at the very least give us open ended tickets so we can use them in the future?

Ideally I'd prefer to hold on to them for future use instead of the refund.

So today I have seen a ton of "I will wait for the better one." It will be interesting to see how this situation develops.

If you have read the research, you know that this isn't a bad vaccine. But a huge chunk of the general population has not done the research, and I think this one will be hard to sell.

Except that time he went to that Trump rally here in FL, and was mask-free, running along the front edge of the crowds, giving people high-5's.

Oh, and also that time he went to the Edgewater/Niceville football game, and was mask-free, in the mostly mask-less stadium.

Shall I go on?
You do understand that a mask is to keep to you from transmitting the virus if you are unaware you have it. I am quite sure Gov Desantis is tested on a daily (if not more) basis. He should be pretty sure if he is positive or negative. Do I feel he should wear one? Yes I do, but it is his choice. He is not putting anyone in danger and also not telling anyone not to wear a mask. Everyone jumps on Florida but everywhere I go here people are wearing masks. Southern Georgia was a whole different story. We actually saw businesses with signs that if you feel a need to wear a mask go somewhere else. I am not a Florida expert but we have spent a lot of time in Orange, Osceola, and Seminole the last few weeks. We are going to Polk tomorrow. Any guess what we will find there?

Polk County FL is a whole different mindset. Winter Haven and Lakeland just encourages one to wear a mask.

Of course I understand how masks work...which is one of the bigger challenges of this pandemic. With those examples I was responding to the person who was glorifying the Gov for being a great example with mask wearing. Which...couldn't be more false.

No, we have a Pfizer plant in Michigan making the vaccine, and no vaccines are currently allowed to be exported. That’s why Canada’s doses have come from Europe.
Ah ok thanks for that...there has been uproar here in the uk about the eu stopping what we have paid for and in the list of countries they want to limit exports of the vaccine to I did see Canada was on the list as well as Australia and America So I wondered how it would affect America’s supply but your reply makes sense...any Canadians on this board have any insight about what the feeling towards the eu are about their decision?

Yes
Quick question is there any concern in america of the eu stopping exports of the Pfizer vaccine?

Why should there be ? Pfizer is only using two facilities in Europe (Germany and Belgium) for the Covid vaccine production for Europe out of 40 total worldwide.

Because the eu has said they will stop exports of Pfizer to countries outside the eu including America Canada and Australia
