Other countries did better because they did a hard lockdown, not because their people are necessarily less selfish. People were flocking together and doing dumb crap overseas too, which caused surges again. although Americans seemed to have cornered the market on the silly anti mask Karen’s. In that way, yeah a lot of ppl here are selfish.

the more I think about it, the more I wish a hard lockdown even for just three weeks had occurred nationwide in April. Then they could have gotten all the silly court challenges out of the way and we here could have hopefully gotten used to it. Then repeat in November. Kind of like you have to make a kid try broccoli multiples times before they may like it or at least tolerate it.
Italians were hosting "hug a Chinese person" events in public.
Those events did not age well.
Virtue signaled themselves to some very high death rates.

Were you allowed to freely come and go? Go to the store or to pick up take out? Visit a neighbor or friend? You weren't locked down. None of us in the US were
My friend took a temp foreign assignment in Taiwan and took his family. They had to be quarantined in their rental place. A video camera was playing 24/7 right outside their home to ensure they did not break quarantine. That's an example of being locked down.

Dr. Fauci in a New York times interview before Christmas:
In a telephone interview the next day, Dr. Fauci acknowledged that he had slowly but deliberately been moving the goal posts. He is doing so, he said, partly based on new science, and partly on his gut feeling that the country is finally ready to hear what he really thinks.
...
“When polls said only about half of all Americans would take a vaccine, I was saying herd immunity would take 70 to 75 percent,” Dr. Fauci said. “Then, when newer surveys said 60 percent or more would take it, I thought, ‘I can nudge this up a bit,’ so I went to 80, 85.
...
“We need to have some humility here,” he added. “We really don’t know what the real number is. I think the real range is somewhere between 70 to 90 percent. But, I’m not going to say 90 percent.

Taiwan has done the best. Not really a secret.

It stills sucks...but I don’t get why anyone ever thought it shouldn’t??

To be fair the only risk is being ill or dying right? I mean your point of view is rooted in the notion that death is purely bad. Period full stop. You just said we live too long?
We do...and there’s too many of us and we overconsume.

So it makes more sense to take up cycling, running, dressage, kayaking, etc and hold off on the chef Mickey’s till you don’t kill grandma...

...or does it? 🤔

So your saying "traditional news outlets" dont word and or write things to slant or bias a topic?

I don’t really have any respect for the tactics that any “news outlet” right now...

But some don’t pre-write the script with storyboards on everything...

And it’s quite clear what the facts are in our society right now on this one gigantic cluster of a year

For everyone wishing for/hoping for a national lockdown, what you are really hoping for is a national stay at home suggestion with limited businesses open, no indoor dining in restaurants, limited access to public facilities like city and county parks, etc. For work to be remote for everyone except those that it isn't. If you had an actual national lockdown with the true definition of lockdown, you'd be complaining about your lack of freedom in a day.

Because you wanted to do your part to be safe? Or because you'd be fined and/or arrested? That's the difference between a "Stay at Home Suggestion" and "Lockdown"

All I'll say is I haven't complained. Last time I said anything more I got accused of hiding in my basement

Were you willing to give up your income for those lockdowns along with everyone who was unable to work from home? How about giving up your health insurance as well?

I didn’t need to. I work from home.

The government could have passed a relief package to compensate those affected by a national shutdown. But that would require the government to give a damn. News flash: they don’t. 93.7 percent of Politicians are greedy and corrupt and truly don’t care about the people.

I don’t rely nor trust in human government, and the former is exhibit Z

So easy to call for that when you wouldn't be affected.

Agreed. I’m not even wishing for that much. I think State and national parks and other outdoor activities can be open. I don't think indooor dining should be a thing right now, I think anyone who CAN work from home should be working from home, and I think all indoor activities should have mask requirements and capacity limitations.

But that’s my opinion and I’m definitely not an expert on any of this. It does seem to match the opinion of actual experts though. :)

If the virus doesn’t improve, there won’t be an economy. And that’s why I added that for it to work, there would need to be a compensation and deliver program, not half hearted efforts. So those are affected could get the help they deserve. But if they’re not getting it now I don’t think they will ever
