But what about the 1.5 million people flying into Orlando next week. They need that money.
At least make sure they are all wearing masks and distancing in restaurants, 2 things that aren’t required statewide. They don’t even need a statewide mandate, just allow the localities to do it as they see fit. Blocking enforcement of local mask mandates and also not allowing them to close bars or indoor dining if they see fit.

I don’t really expect anything to happen in FL now, but I am just curious to see what people think is the breaking point before some action is warranted. The case level is actually higher than end of June when the Governor wavered and closed bars and limited restaurant capacity. Maybe he should at least stop fighting the localities when they are trying to mandate masks or limit bars and indoor dining.

Florida's hospitalization / ICU utilization is still below that of other 'hot spots'. I think the only possible breaking point at this point would be the hospitals themselves, if they begin to be seriously stressed. If Tampa General orders up some of those freezer trucks and the news stations can do stand-ups with them in the background, I think the tide would turn on public opinion and DeSantis might think he needs to 'do something'.

We all know that by then it's too late... but, well, welcome to Florida!

I guess the hope is the vaccines start reducing spread to some extent and hospital issues are somewhat avoided. I hope that’s the case. Hospitalizations and deaths tend to lag cases. Hopefully that’s not the case this time around.

Florida's governor? Not a chance.

There's an influx of visitors coming to the state looking to escape both the cold and lockdowns of the north and he's not going to shut down businesses or discourage people from spending money, regardless of how much of a health risk it is.
The draconian lockdowns have been so successful in California I just don't understand why Florida doesn't follow their model. Haven't they completely eradicated Covid or is just the economy they've eradicated? It's so confusing these days.

They were actually very successful in mitigating covid from March-june. Then we opened up, things got hot, and so we closed again, and things got better. Then people stopped caring and now we are here. Yes, the lockdowns work. The new "lockdown" was too late.

I sure hope they shut down Disneyland that should fix it.

We wouldn't need lockdowns if people followed the guidelines. Too many doing non essential travel and having family gatherings. Family gatherings has shown to be where the majority of cases are coming from. Instead people have to people.

You should put that on auto post.
