We’re in complete agreement here. Which is why it would benefit everyone to relax and stop acting like life has to come to a halt.

Yet you alluded to my post about seeing Onward as an example of a panicked overreaction. If we're in complete agreement, then you had no reason to fault what I wrote, which was simply that I wouldn't have gone to the cinema had it been crowded. It wasn't, and so I did.

Actually, my post wasn’t about you at all. Unless you’re on your 802nd roll of toilet paper too. Believe it or not, there’s other posts about going to the movies.. and I mentioned yesterday that AMC (the theaters I frequent)sent out an email of their new procedures as of Saturday. Here, you can read. :)

It's strange he's arguing both sides. Hard to follow his train of thought.

No. I‘m not arguing sides. You have to go back to the post from someone else who was talking about what this is doing to our economy. I agreed with him, and used the example of how people are overly-justifying their trips out.. when really, everyone is still exposed without full quarantine. There’s just nothing that can be done to completely eradicate it, and we can’t destroy business as a result.
I don’t want to see our economy crumble, and I hope that people do continue to spend money.

I think there may have been a misunderstanding and someone felt that said post was directed at them for attending a movie. I have full plans on taking my kid to see Call of the Wild sometime in the next week.. I’m not in the group who wants everything to shut down.

Drive-by testing is already underway in many places in the US.
If you can get the test. Many people wait and don’t get tested. Further, if we hadn’t turned down the German developed test used by the WHO we could’ve tested an order of an order of magnitude more people by now which actually would’ve saved lives and lessened the economic impact. But, hey, we’re doing the best we can. Using something that already exists while we develop our own test if we want to is pie in the sky and an unreasonable expectation.

Well, here's another one.

The bit that got my attention:
The cruise line was unable to drop passengers on its Caribbean cruise in La Romana in the Dominican Republic on February 27 after a number of influenza-like cases on board were reported.
Instead, it made an unscheduled stop in St. Maarten on March 2 to allow passengers to disembark and take the cruise's charter flights back to the UK. New passengers boarded and the vessel set sail for Jamaica as it continued to the Western Caribbean and Central America. It was due to continue to Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia, Curacao, and reach Barbados on March 12.
On Monday, March 9, the company reported that two people who had been on the Braemar were diagnosed with the coronavirus after returning home. Six people reporting flu-like symptoms on the ship were tested, and five cases were confirmed on Wednesday -- four crew and one passenger -- with another inconclusive result.

March 2nd was well after the Carnival/Princess Cruise ship was quarantined in Japan, and this company knew they had sick passengers. Yet they let new passengers board and continued the cruise!!!!

I don’t know why @wdwmagic still thinks this has anything to do with WDW any longer. It has devolved into a politics and social issues thread. I made a post there. There’s no reason these “discussions” should mutate and infect other parts of the board.

I get your position on this and not trying to change your mind. This is a fluid situation and changes rapidly. Government officials in the county that I live are essentially asking for people to avoid all non-essential travel. That includes going to movie theaters, bars and restaurants. It is not a statewide requirement yet but only a matter of time. So it’s not just people over-reacting on their own. They are following what health officials and the government is telling them. Here‘s the full release:

COVID-19 Business Resources
PA Department of Community and Economic Development Business Resources

During a press conference held on March 12, 2020, Governor Wolf strongly urged non-essential businesses in four Pennsylvania counties to close for 14 days from the start of the county’s mitigation period to protect employees, customers and suppliers and limit the spread of the virus through personal contact and surfaces.

As of March 14, 2020, those counties include: Bucks, Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery.

As a matter of public health, it is the Pennsylvania Department of Health’s strong recommendation that businesses cease operations to mitigate the spread of this disease. The following types of businesses should temporarily cease regular operations:

  • Community and recreation centers
  • Gyms, including yoga/spin/barre facilities
  • Hair salons, nail salons, and spas
  • Casinos, concert venues, and theaters
  • Bars
  • Sporting events facilities and golf courses
  • Non-essential retail facilities, including shopping malls (except for pharmacy or other health care facilities located therein)
  • NOTE: Restaurants should stay open for carry-out and delivery only
Businesses have a vast network of services that they can contact to discuss the impact of the Coronavirus on their daily operations and the future of their business. Staff at the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), as well as local partner networks, are available to help businesses through this challenging time.

Did you miss the 17 pages on the college program shut down or the posts about when the parks will re-open?

I don't think you do.

You think you're young and going to live forever and to let things just play out. But if you get into a car accident two weeks from now and need to be in Intensive Care to get through your recovery and maybe be on a ventilator for a while... guess what? You die. All the ICU beds are filled. All the respirators are used. You can't get access to it, and so you die.

Think of all the people you know... a percentage of them will become severely ill from the CV and they will die because there's not enough ventilators because you just let things run their course.

Have you ever needed to go the the emergency room for some treatment? If not you, maybe a family member? Now imagine it full and a 6 hour wait to see someone.

Go back and read more on flattening the curve until you understand it.
Also, the attempt to "personalize" the issue to younger healthy people using the car accident example is disingenuous. If you sustain injuries in a car accident that require being put on a ventilator, your chance of survival is very low. It is not a common occurrence for car accident victims to be ventilated.

Even the ventilator shortage in general is given too much weight. People on ventilators are very sick to begin with. Having this shortage due to COVID-19 does not mean all of a sudden healthy people will start dropping like flies.

This is my biggest fear. I hope my state doesn’t react like this.. but I do think they were one of the first to close schools, complete blindsiding everyone, so I wouldn’t be surprised. I just pray it doesn’t happen.

I do know that a casino close by in Indiana, they are closing starting today I think.

Yes, WDWMagic should put at least 6 feet between this thread and all others. ;)

Fred is a smaller regional based cruise line based in the UK. On their website it looks like they made the decision to halt future sailings as of yesterday. Probably due to this incident. I don't want to speculate, but they may have continued on if not for this happening. These things need to be shut down immediately. Obviously for the safety issues, but the industry as a whole does not need cruise ships plastered all over the news with new cases reported.

ALL business are essential because they provide jobs and income so people can feed their families and pay their rent/mortgage. This is government overreach and insanity. I'm tempted to open a business just to gather 500 people and then fight the restriction all the way to the Supreme Court. I'm not okay with this country becoming a dictatorship to deal with this "crisis."

How does this have anything to do with WDW? I just had a chicken sandwich. They serve chicken sandwiches at WDW. Does that meet the guidelines for discussion?

This is not mandatory, although it is a good idea. The countries that have put the biggest restrictions in place seem to be the ones that are seeing the biggest drop in new cases.
