I agree about our actions being too extreme..but at the same time I do think it will limit the spread... the question is-
At what cost?
The answer to that is what I’m afraid of the most.

That is my whole point. The cost of these actions vs. limiting the spread (although not by as much) with actions like vastly expanded testing and isolation of people found to be infected.
The cost of this to the economy is not fathomable. Multiple industries will see every company in bankruptcy or needing enormous bailouts.

So, I ended up swinging by Epcot to pick up my AP magnet and take in my last visit for the foreseeable future. Aside from the few minute wait to get the magnet, I have been at least 6 feet away from pretty much every human. It’s not hard to do as this park is pretty dead, even in the world showcase.
The closest thing I can compare it to is the night before the park closed for Irma. I was there and noted that was likely the quietest I’d ever see the park during F&W on a weekend night. I’d guess in a few hours it will be even quieter than it was that night.

Windsor is just outside London. She goes there pretty much every weekend. If there were concern about her safety, she would be moved to Balmoral or some other remote estate. There’s no reason to explain this news in such dramatic terms; it’s basically a non-story.

I think that’s the key to getting this under control. With the dive up testing you avoid people who could be negative in a waiting room with people who are positive. Once the testing ramps up and the actual sick people are put on quarantine we can start to get ahead of this and move towards business as usual.

I’m sorry, I’m an Engineer, not an English major. My vocabulary and choice of words have different meaning then most. By normal, I simply meant that the parks would be open and CPs would continue.
The status of park ops, hours, attendance, and expansion are the least of my concern at the moment.
Parks will be open. Eventually. There would be CP positions for those who want them.

I agree. Look at things we’re hearing “I went to a movie theater, but don’t worry, it wasn’t crowded!” “I went to the grocery for my 802nd package of toilet paper, but I stayed 6 feet away from everyone besides the cashier!.” “I went to CVS for hand sanitizer but didn’t physically bump into anyone”
Like, what?? It’s not spreading by simply standing or sitting within 6ft of someone. Like most other virus, the biggest way to contract it is by TOUCHING something which was touched by someone else, and then touching your face prior to washing your hands.
When you’re at a movie theater, or market, or drug store, you’re touching stuff. Stuff that other people have touched.
But yet people appear to believe that it’s only by standing/sitting close. We’re not going to eliminate when folks are still doing the things listed above.
I’m not saying that everyone should stay home, not in the slightest..I’m simply pointing out the oddness in what’s going on, and how people are reacting.

It's not crazy to think, why not just let this run its course because the cure is worse than the disease. But I think the idea is that if this runs completely rampant, everything will basically shut down anyway. It's not like a bunch of old people will just quietly go off and die while the rest of us enjoy new rides at Hollywood Studios. People's parents will die. Some people who support children will die, and those kids will need a place to go. A portion of public officials, CEOs, etc. (who skew older) who run things will die, including probably a chunk of congress and maybe the president. Then you end up with a different kind of panic and disruption. So either way, we're kind of up a creek.

This just happened...
Panic shopping has continued, and as of yesterday, just getting a jar of jelly was a little bit of a challenge, and we weren't able to get peanut butter. Hubby grabbed the last 4-pack of toilet paper someone happened to be putting back on the shelf - at the second store he went to.
We just had to tell a "friend" (loose use of that word) that he and his son CANNOT come over and visit.
This person is a single dad with shared custody who lives at his mother's house. We've spoken with him a couple of times - to no avail - about coming over without bringing snacks for his 9-year-old and the fact that feeding them dinner every Friday with zero reciprocation isn't right and is making us feel used. This is a guy who doesn't do weekly food shopping even when he has his own place. He eats takeout/fast food/at restaurants and only buys "real" food if there's a specific meal he wants to cook. He has his son every weekend, but doesn't stock up on anything in preparation for it - he just stops at a convenience store and grabs snacks or whatever if his son says he's hungry. His mother refuses to babysit for him, and knowing his attitude and behavior, I'm not surprised and can probably guess why.
Big shocker...he just called and asked if we wanted to get our boys together...right at lunchtime. You can bet money that if they came over, they'd be here past dinnertime, so they'd be here for two meals. Sorry, but until the panic shopping stops and I know we can replace any food he and his son eat, I'm not running the risk of running out of anything.
(Before you all tear into me about allowing our family to be used in this way...we've mostly allowed the visiting for the benefit of the kids - all three of whom have autism.)
