How would you behave if you could see the end getting closer day by day? ;) I'm surprised that more old people don't do the whole "Harold and Maude" thing and just do whatever they want with no regards to laws, etc. Oh wait, some old people already do.
What's the phrase? I want to be old enough to wear purple socks and spit on the sidewalk? One comedian had a bit about being able to break certain laws based on your age: when you turn 100, you can murder someone provided you can do it with your own hands, reason being that anyone who can't win a fight with a 100-year-old doesn't deserve to live. 😆

You may not want to believe it, but people over 65 still enjoy sex. And, thanks to Viagra,(and a similar drug for women) there is no reason that they have to deprive themselves. I just wish they would realize that pregnancy is not the only byproduct of unprotected sex.

Just like in the song:
"Surf City" is a song written by Brian Wilson and Jan Berry about a fictitious surf spot where there are "two girls for every boy." It was first recorded and made popular by the American duo Jan and Dean in 1963, and their single became the first surf song to become a national number-one hit
My FIL is in his seventies and has a more active dating life than I ever had. God bless him.

I agree but would change the focus somewhat: Social distance. Just for now, when the virus is so uncontrolled, put off weddings, family gatherings, church services, holiday celebrations, restaurant or bar outings and any other prolonged, close (mostly indoor) contact with others, because according to the CDC and medical experts, that is how the virus is primarily spread. Unlike masks in public areas, this type of social distancing is much harder, and in the case of individual homes, nearly impossible to enforce, but it addresses the primary way the virus is transmitted. Clearly, when you absolutely can't social distance (like at work or school), wear a mask because it helps.
It is very difficult to convince people - especially at risk older people - that they should not be celebrating the holidays with family members who they haven't see since last March. Especially if they feel that, despite all of their precautions, they may still pick it up from someone in the grocery store, and if they do, they may die without ever having one last Holiday with their family.

Yeah, masks are only one aspect. It just seems like the most controversial in a lot of ways which really shouldn’t be. I see far less resistance to social distancing in general, although I think a lot of that may just be people do stuff like family gatherings behind closed doors so we don’t know about it while not wearing a mask in public where it’s required generally draws more attention to the violator.

The first message was masks don't work and please don't go buy them since the healthcare workers needed them. Then came well just any old mask is good (hell a t-shirt over your nose & mouth is fine) and may help. Then masks are the best thing since sliced bread. Then well some masks work and some are worse than wearing nothing. So the information was all over the map in the first few months. So it has been wishy washy.
The view regarding masks has not changed. They were always recommended for persons believed to be contagious. What changed is the understanding of who could be contagious.

I agree, but the chances of getting it from a brief visit to a grocery store are so much less! We did insist that my 90-year-old mother-in-law use delivery services, but it's hard if you're not used to it and for some areas it isn't even an option. It's not my place to judge anyone who feels the need to celebrate the holidays with family; I'm just stating what the experts know about how the virus is primarily transmitted. I know people who are eager to impose huge fines for not wearing a mask in a store, but rationalize gatherings with family and friends because they "think they're safe."

“...Coronavirus & WDW & You discussion thread, day 237 page 2110... the OP of the thread finally had enough, again, and is leaving this time. Really. We’ve subdued the latest ‘new member’ wave, debunked another round of ‘but Sweden!’, and played the ever popular ‘mask or no-mask’ song a few times. GoofGoof continues as the unflappable voice of reason. DisneyCane spins faster then an actual ‘cane. The evening is coming to a rousing close with a spirited thread-drift discussion on the characteristics of orgies in the senior citizen population. Disneyland is still closed, and there are no fireworks on the schedule for the Magic Kingdom. There was a rumor awhile ago land was sighted and this voyage might soon finally at an end, but alas it was just fake news.

... we’ll see what tomorrow brings.”

Pre-pandemic my wife had always wanted to do grocery delivery but I never minded going to the story. The pandemic gave us a reason to do delivery, so I believe my wife is responsible for covid. ;)

Will the COVID virus ever really be completely GONE? Maybe not as prevalent, maybe under control, maybe causing a disease that is treatable, maybe for which an effective vaccine has been created. GONE, hard to imagine. If wishes were horses.

I have stories but you would most likely kick me off the boards for life if I shared them lol

Covid doesn’t need to be completely gone, it just needs a vaccine and/or better treatments. Measles isn’t gone, but you rarely hear about a measles outbreak and when one occurs they are quick to do tracing and contain it. With an effective vaccine widespread community spread of Covid can likely be eliminated.
