To be fair, so far I have seen an overwhelming majority of reports talk about mask rules being followed at WDW. Capacity is obviously a help (including overall park capacity, bus capacity, restaurant capacity, pool capacity and ride vehicle spacing) but the masks are the main safety measure.
But the masks come off when you eat. And drink. How often do they stay on in rides and shows, where the lights are off, both official and social-stigma-based enforcement is impossible, and people want to relax? What measures are in place to track and deal with repeat offenders? Have we had any reports of people being kicked out or in any other way punished for non-compliance?

I have a lot of friends and co-workers in TX and we talked about something similar back in April/May. They really got off rather easy at that point in time and a lot of people thought masks weren’t necessary for their area. We were talking about it in context of opening our offices back up and they felt it wasn’t right to have the same rules as the office in NJ since the situation was so different up here. Flash forward to today...they shoulda had that mask rule all along. In certain very rural places it’s possible to never need masks, but even then, it won’t kill anyone to wear one.

I am just waiting for that to happen here. It is crazy how different it is here compared to most other places. Granted, we are a more spread out state with fewer people, but still.

Florida Nurse Warns ‘Nursing Shortage’ About To Hit State As COVID-19 Puts Strain On Hospital Systems

Dr. Wilson is the associate director of emergency management at Tampa General Hospital. He said the volume of COVID patients coming to the hospital is five times higher than it was a month and a half ago.

“We’ve really done everything we can to try to keep patients out of the hospital who don’t need to be in the hospital,” said Dr. Wilson.
It’s a direr situation in South Florida. There are just 10 ICU beds left in all of Miami-Dade County.

“Miami is now the epicenter of the pandemic. What we were seeing in Wuhan six months ago, five months ago, now we are there,” said Dr. Lilian Abbo.

How long before northeastern states with rising case counts start specifically naming WDW as a culprit, the way Myrtle Beach has been?

THIS

is extremely upsetting to me.

Really? After reading the article and a couple others similar, I feel good about it. Seems like a good thing IMO.

From a case perspective I agree, I think the death and hospitalization increases are something to be concerned about or at least something to follow closely.
Yeah. I was referring to the case and positivity rate trends. Once hospitalizations increased, it was unfortunately safe to say that some type of death increase would follow.

I would like to know which part or parts of the state are contributing to the hospitalizations. And where it is flat or declining.

From that article:

For the latest weekly period ended Sunday, Florida reported 511 additional deaths, by far the most since the pandemic began. The previous weekly record for new deaths statewide was 342 in early May.

Unless I am mistaken, given the lag of 19 to 20 days, if cases have plateaued, we should expect negative outcomes to increase for about two weeks before leveling off. Which is unimaginably awful.
