1. we are way better at diagnosing and testing now. So the days of 6-8 week lags should be over. In fact the lags should start moving closer and closer to real time

Floridian here, and that statement is not true. Our area has just consolidated the various testing sites in the county, leaving us with only (1) location (hospital) that is open until 11am daily, and can conduct 200 tests. The line is “full” as soon as that site opens every day.

And, it is still taking 9-14 days to receive results back, which does nothing “stop the spread” as contact tracing efforts don’t start until you receive a positive diagnosis. Ideally, the testee would isolate that whole time, but that’s not the case, ESPECIALLY if they were only being sent to get a test because they had an exposure to someone, yet aren’t showing symptoms.

So...I believe the correct phrase would be: we are flying by the seat of our pants.

Senator Rubio tweeted that Florida hospitals are running out of Remdisivir.

I’m cautiously optimistic that improvements in treatment will improve outcomes, but that doesn’t work if you can’t apply the new treatments. And Florida is still early in the crisis.

The doctors are learning what is an appropriate course of treatment for this particular strain and what is not. Medicine is still an art for anyone who doesn't respond as most of the general population to any particular therapy or prophylaxis.

True. But since this thread has turned into a whole country Covid thread I don't think it's just about WDW anymore.

I haven't seen a single headline about Universal needing to close. It's really weird how rabidly the media went after Disney and continues not to mention other theme parks. Disney has a lot of influence in Florida but UO is not that different. They have gotten a total pass.

UO is more of a locals park. Disney is the 800lb gorilla in town that is the driver for people to visit Florida. There would also be articles about UO opening if it was doing so when Florida is one of the top epicenters of the world.

I am new to posting on these specific boards but not new to reading them. Just like almost all of you I am a life long disney-holic who lives for my next trip to Disney. We spend 10 days every August at the Poly and have been on 11 cruises. Some years we do two trips a year so you can see where my hard earned dollars have gone. I always joke that half my salary should just be direct deposited to Disney. But I am happy to do it because it provides us memories like no other.

In saying that we have thought long and hard about our upcoming trip this August. Back when Disney first announced they were re-opening we booked our park reservations and re-made our dining reservations and were fully intent on going. I am by no means a hypochondriac. However with the state of the virus in Florida my wife and I decided that it just wasn't worth the inherent risk for us to make the trip this year. It breaks our heart and we want to go so badly, but we just feel it may be too risky for us and our kids. Not because of anything Disney has done, as we fully believe they are doing everything possible to keep everyone safe. But as I said this is a CHOICE we are making.

Reading these boards, which are usually filled with great info and some fun debate, I am honestly blown away by the amount of people who believe it's OK to shame others or feel they have an invitation to tell others what they should do. We are making the decision not to go, because we feel it is too risky...that is OUR choice. However I would never begrudge anyone who felt differently and felt it was safe enough for them to go. If you feel safe...go and I hope you have a wonderful time.... if you don't feel safe, then do as we are and stay at home. It really sucks, but it's the choice we feel we have to make.

Universal Orlando has at 7 major hotels just in their immediate area. Looks like tourists stay there also to enjoy what Universal, their water parks and City Walk has to offer.

Yes they definitely stay there but, generally speak, they cater more towards regional guests and Florida residents. Yes people travel to go to UO, but not in the numbers they do for Disney.

Also out of the two Universal Studios Hollywood has more of a international tourist draw because its Hollywood and an actual operating studio.
