Just found this post on another wdw board. Click on new projects, then scroll down to see the design of the new DVC Contemporary.

Contemporary Disney Vacation Club
Resort Timeshare Condominiums
Lake Buena Vista, FL
Status: In design
Completion Date: 2008

(I hope it's "legal" for me to post these)

The info came from http://www.gwathmey-siegel.com/ (an archetectural design firm) and this, combined with the other blurb that I posted on the poll thread, confirms, (in my mind anyway) that we can expect to see the new Contemporary Vacation Club open in 2008!

I have a feeling that the whole 15 stories thing is a typo. I thought it was going to be 5 stories and be in a horseshoe shape, with most rooms overlooking the lake.

It's just concept art. How different did the Polynesian look in early concept sketches. It would be a real mistake to build a fifteen story building next to the Contemporary. Five stories would be a lot better. I have to admit that the overall design of the new building looks nice, but I'm totally against fifteen stories, and I'm still against that parasitic DVC.

Actually that's a little past concept art stage. I'd be willing to bet a whole heck of a lot that that is almost identical to what the final product will look like.

In other words, at that stage, and with a 2008 completion date, and with demo beginning in less than 2 months, I'd say we can all be about 99.5% sure that that design is the final one. ;)

The biggest negative here, to me, is the view that will be blocked from the current tower. Although, even that isn't too big a deal, being that the new tower will be off to the left of a good Bay Lake view.

Also, putting a new 5 story building wouldn't make any sense at all to Disney, being that this will be DVC. They need a LOT more rooms than a C shaped 5 story building would provide.

If that design is the final design, I'm concerned about outside intrusions inside the MK. While I realize that the Contemporary was designed to fit well with TL, I can't help but think that when I see it that it is a hotel and not actually a part of TL. An additional large, multi-story building will probably only make things worse. While I have no problem with the DVC concept even on at a monorail resort, I'd much rather see it happen at the Poly than right next to MK.

Just curious as to what your issue is with DVC?!?

It looks to dwarf the current building though.... and though the map makes the footprint look spacious, there's not much distance between where the two would be situatuated. From a distance, they'd appear to be a single building. I think that's why they almost look identicle in some ways.

you went to public school didn't you?

I'm only posting to ask you to think before you criticize perhaps 90% of the people on these boards, i.e. those who attend or attended public schools.
I trust I was able to get my point across, even though I attended public school. ;)

Well, I can see the mouseowners link is already on here to Gwalthmey Siegel. I'm excited about it. I'll be able to stay at my home resorts again (BWV & BC). I can't plan 11 months out, so I don't get to stay there often. Of course, I'm one of those perfectly content staying at OKW or SSR. I like the idea of more options! If indeed there is a small waterpark there, I think it will be a smash hit.

I like the look of the new resort, but I think it's going to be very expensive to own there. The price per point is probably going to be higher than SSR and the maitenance fee (paying for the monorail access) is going to make BCV look cheap.

I's better start saving now.

Um...that doesn't seem possible.

In that artist's drawing did anyone else notice the monorail?? Crossing the contemporary building and then going crooked to the new building....and then, it doesn't even come out, so what, it backs up???? I don't get it. That doesn't seem possible.

Thats not a monorail. It is simply an elevated hall-way connecting the two buildings.

That's not the monorail going into the new building. Its a walkway.

The thing at the 4th floor isn't the monorail showing, atleast not both things. One is a new walkway connecting both building at what is the 4th floor concourse of the current tower.

And, to note, i've mentioned it before, but out on that side of the main tower down on the ground level in the loading/unloading parking area or whatever it is, a big square is spray painted to "dig" suggesting it'll be a new support for that walkway.
