Does anyone think that WDI has had a look at this? Doesn't there seem to be a blatant contradiction of architectures? I just say this because I remember reading in one of those field guides about how WDI takes major precautions in keeping architecture coinciding with adjacent structures. Those curves seem to be clashing with all the sharp angles on the original tower.

Yes, WDI has had a say in this.
If anything, this is the most appropriate form to take for a new addition. Symmetry is boring, and to try and imitate and or recreate the 70's structure and style of the main tower would most likely result in a clashing mismatch. The free-form C style shape of this building will give balance to the main tower while complementing it.

I will make known beforehand that the following is of course only my opinion but.....Im not sure how the new design would give balance or complement the exsisting property. When I think of a mismatch, I see a rectangular tower and a round C tower. They are polar opposites in a negative way.

Again - just my opinion, nothing against your post Kumba.

Seems Disney keep a good eye on this board as the plans have been pulled off the site.

I saw these plans on at least three other unofficial Disney sites on Monday. I know for sure that Disney monitors the DIS....

I e-mailed my dad the info & link to the concept drawings (he's an architect) and he loved them. I asked him if his firm competes with this firm and he said:
Gwathmey is very good firm but we don’t compete in that area of business. Must have a relationship w/DVC.
He also said:
if Gwathmey gang had that on their website, Disney SHOULD be very unhappy about the leak…
("that" meaning the concept renderings).

I would love to add on to my DVC contract at the Contemporary. The rendering concerned me a little however. The reason why I would buy there is b/c it's close to the MK. I would love to be able to walk there!

We'll have to wait & see if this comes to pass.....all I know is that I am not in the cone......:)

I agree. Many people question the design because of the images on the firm's website, but the image showing the current tower and the rumored new one, demonstrates what the buidling will look like and where it will go, but because of the angle, it shouldn't be used to judge the quality of the design, for many reasons, one being that the average guest will never look at the buildings from that angle.

The other image shows that they're taking design qualities from the original tower and incorporating it into the DVC tower...so it won't stick out too much....I think it will complement the old tower...and enhance Tomorrowland.

Im sure whatever happens, itll be great and will sell. Anyway, not to beat a dead horse but I found pictures of this condo in South Beach (that I mentioned in a previous post) that the design reminds me of. They're really not THAT similar...but it was familiar.

umm.. well, this may be for nothing, but when I was down there in June, I spoke with my DVC sales rep and what is happening is the South Wing is being converted into a DVC resort while the North Wing is being completely refurbished. The plan is to start offering points at the Contemporary by the beginning of 2008, once all the points are sold out at Saratoga Springs. I'm already on the list for DVC Contemporary points, and I'm hoping that some more Boardwalk points open up too (yes, that means I'll have points at 2 resorts, but my family SHARES (which sux) the Boardwalk points)

On the list for DVC Comtemp points? Is this a typo?

I'm certainly not an architect, but I have to disagree with your opinion. I think that the inclined walls and sharp edges give the original building its personality. I wish something similar to that was reflected in the addition. I don't necessarily want symmetry, but I want a circular reference to a characteristic. A "C" shape is certainly not a reflection of what I think of architecturally when the Contemporary comes to mind. Why not something like smaller (say 6 story) structures that have inclined walls, maybe with perpendicular or 45 degree interior corners. It's just my opinion.

The problem is, if you went with a smaller building in a more angular shape with sloping walls.. you'd have the Doubletree Guest Suites at WDW:

I would so get a dvc timeshare if they built a Contemporary dvc. But i think it is cool how the Tower (which i love to stay at) is "A" shaped and this new resort could be a "C" shape, but i hope these hotel rooms are of better quality. I hope they make a Gra. Fla. dvc They Better!!:fork: Plz WDW:eek:

You can stay at GF if your in DVC. It costs alot of points. I dont think they will build a DVC there. I am highly considering getting the Contemporary.
