I’m all for being nice to mama-pigs but not for the purpose of feeding someone else’s political agenda. There are only two farms in the entire state that will be affected by this and yet a handful of NATIONAL organizations spilled money into getting this thing made into an amendment to our state constitution… Gee, why didn’t they take it to a bigger farming state where it would matter more… hm… me wonders.

*drifting...* :D

This will probably get me in trouble, but...
This is a state that passes an amendment that mandates smaller class sizes, and then elects a governor who has 'devious plans' to undo it.

*sigh*

What is this pig ammendment about? :veryconfu

I'm not from a farming part of the state, so I didn't pay much attention to it, but I think it says you can't keep pregnant pigs in a confined space anymore.

I'm trying to think of something obnoxious to say about it, but what would be the point? ;)

'One cannot deny one's nature'

I think Spock said that in an episode or movie or documentary or poem or something...

This thread troubles me....

I smoke and I will continue to smoke. However, my mother has always taught me to be a very polite and rule abiding person, so I personally only smoke in smoking areas.

So way back in the '90's when DH and I started visiting WDW it was no problem following the rules...no smoking in resturants, ride ques, or on any transportation - really quite easy rules to follow and we were happy to do so. In fact, I would fuss as much (if not more!) than most when some smokers wouldn't follow the rules - IMHO they just made things harder for the rest of us.

The last time we were at Disney was 12/00...the rules had changed considerably :( The thing that really bothered me about that trip was how very quickly the CM's were to jump on anyone even near a cigarette.

Example..... I was waiting at this cart outside of TT to buy a car tag, and DH was pretty ill and ready to light up, so he had a cig in his mouth. It was not lit....he didn't even have a lighter in hand. He no sooner had that cig on his lips than a CM was reminding him that he was not in a smoking area. I really thought he was going to explode!!! Maybe if CM's had warned rude smokers back before the rules became so harsh they wouldn't have to be...

Oh, and my other gripe of the trip...we were in one of the terribly few smoking areas in the MK when some woman (who was also in the smoking area) started b******* about us smoking too close to her grand-kids...

I'm not really sure what point I'm going for...I guess it's that some smokers are as considerate as humanly possible - Please don't label us all as complete jerks :)

I'm leaving out the long reply I wrote to this thread. It's not worth it. I've always been the considerate smoker, but after every smoking thread I've read at this board, that's going to change. I've even give the morons who come and sit in the smoking area and ask me not to smoke the benefit of the doubt. It doesn't seem to make a difference.

Next time I hear a crying baby in a restaurant, I'm going to ask the parents to leave with the child (hey people can rightly ask smokers to put out a cigarette). Anywhere, especially WDW, I better never even hear a small cry, I will ask them to leave or move away from me. It's only fair. It bothers me as much as what I do bothers you.

I'm through with this thread, because as I said, I've read all the others about smoking on this board, and it is really useless to even try to defend yourself. The non-smokers are topdog, and they have all the rights.

Although I didn't see what half this thread said, since alot of them are regulars, and they're in the old Ignore list, but they were probably against me anyway. I got the jist from the non-smokers not on the list who seemed to have the same opinion.

Damn, guess this one turned out long too, lol. Just not as long as the other.

Hmm-

I guess since you "missed half the thread" you didn't see the thanks given to the CONSIDERATE smokers.

MBB, the topic here is smoking in public. Nobody is "against" you and nobody is telling you not to smoke. There are plenty of other things you can't do in public. I can't bring an open can of Pepsi into my local Disney store, I can't get it on with my husband at the mall and I certainly can't take my shirt off if it gets too hot outside, although YOU could!!!

You have been around smoke for all your life (I think I read that) and so there really is no way to explain to you why it takes many of us an entire day to recover form being around it. And that's without getting into health/asthma issues. Those people have it much worse.

Of course you have a right to smoke. But it is hard for the rest of us because that is a decision that affects every person around you- even hours later!

I WANNA GO OUT DANCING!!! unfortunately the only time I really can, without paying for it the entire next day, is if I go to a wedding.

Anybody getting married soon? :D

DMC-12

It's HarmonioUS, NOT HarmoniYOU.
It is not politicaly correct to smoke in this world anymore.... Non-smokers are so wonderful...and all smokers are evil... that is how the masses see it anyway....

If I want to spend my hard earned money on cancer sticks.... that is my choice to do so.... dont go out of your way to tell me I am evil, then roll your eyes and curl your nose at me... I am in the smoking section....leave me alone!

I was near the bus station at Port Orleans-FQ...keep in mind... I said "near" ...no where near the people...(next to another couple smoking).... but close enough to keep an eye open for the bus I wanted to catch to the park... Some rude lady had to make a scene and raise her uneducated, irritating voice to say: "These God Dammned smokers.... what the hell...why wont they go away....why dont they go to there own section...." I was about to say "Look lady, there is an ashtray right here in the bus stop next to the bench, I could of smoked right there if I wanted to!", but I ignored the toothless wonder... and I was being CONSIDERATE by like smoking 20 feet away from the bus stop...anyhoo... I just had to get that off my chest... no matter how hard you try it seems....someone will always b.i.t.c.h... :)

Jerry, the bottom line is, there are rude people everywhere.

Of course it is your choice to spend your money on cigarettes and you have every right to do so!

It's a debate that will probably never be solved-- your right to smoke them, and our right not to. Unfortunately in public areas you cannot have both.

If smoking were something that was entirely self-contained, we would not even be having this discussion!

Obviously you realize that, since you were kind enough to stand away from the bus stop. Smoke travels, but 20 feet is a lot better than 5!

To Cymbaldivia and MobileBadBoy: all parental you-know-it-is-bad-for-you talk aside, I am very glad to hear that you are both polite smokers and I agree with you both that it isn’t right for you to get lumped into the crowd of people who aren’t.

Personally, I don’t think that most smokers understand how repulsive most non-smokers find the habit to be. My mother and just about everyone else I know who stopped smoking will tell you that they NEVER realized how much the smell of smoke lingers on clothing or in hair or just about anything else. They also didn’t realize how bad taking a breath of air while just walking past someone smoking could be. I think it is like having really, really bad body odor, not knowing it, and wondering why people have such a problem with being around you and I think it is for this reason that many smokers come across as rude. They don’t think people will really notice if they light up in an outdoor place because it is outdoors: smoke rises, wind blows it and so on and so on. Many seem to get annoyed when other people are bothered by what to them seems like a harmless and largely unnoticeable thing.

To put it on possibly a more understandable level, have you ever been around a person in public who had just been smoking the “Jamaican maple leaf”? They apparently don’t realize that their eyes are totally bloodshot or that they reek of the stuff. You walk past them and think “whooooh” that guy smells… But they seem totally oblivious to it. We had tenants in a rental space that completely claimed to be drug free and when they moved out, even after scrubbing the walls, ceilings and floors and removing carpet and repainting everything, you could still smell it. Cigarette smoke is the same way.

I and I’m sure many others, appreciate the fact that you probably already know and understand what I for no apparent reason just decided to point out. I am one of the “I don’t think they should allow smoking anywhere in the parks” people but it isn’t because of people like you. It is because if it wasn’t allowed at all, we would have people stretching the rules over in the corners where you are now instead of stretching the current rules by smoking wherever they feel like it whenever they feel like it. Anybody can be rude but I think it is easier to be rude when you don’t understand that you are being rude and I think that is the case with many, many smokers.

As with anything else, someone always spoils it for everyone and I think that is the case not just with this discussion but with the political-correctness of smoking all the way around.
