What are we mourning exactly? My God you'd think they replaced the entire ride with video screens the way people are acting. Maybe people we hoping for more in the "plussing" department, but as far as the original is concerned not much has changed...so it's not like we should be mourning anything here. I mean...did you like the original music and narration THAT much better before? Because that's all I really noticed that was truly different aside from the descent, which sucked before so it is an improvement over the original in my eyes.

That said, for all the money they spent on the touch screens, the ending could have been something more elaborate than a flash animation. Still, I guarantee you the vast majority of people will prefer this ending BY FAR over the original. My girlfriend and I were laughing the entire way down watching the animations. People laughing and smiling leaving an attraction is what you want in the end.

Proposed Lyrics for "New Horizons" for Horizons done in the late 70s/early 80s. It wasn't just the song for a ride, it was for the entire park.

There's a smile on the face of tomorrow...like the heart-warming sight of a friend....where we work, where we play, dreams come true everyday, as we reach for new horizons. We have learned to get more out of living, to create a rich happy lifetime to have...for the whole human race, there's a time and a place as we reach for new horizons...as we climb out of yesterday's shadow, and the hope for our future draws near...we are free to build and grow, to choose the way we go...the promise of tomorrow is clear...tomorrow is here!...we have countless new meadows to harvest, and the challenge to dream without end, life is filled with so much more than we ever had before...reaching new horizons, reaching.....new....horizons!

Oh but doesn't that sound so outdated? You know big hair, neon clothes, Apple II and floppy disks?

Epcot: Entertain, Inform, make you laugh and giggle for 5-15 minutes.

Disney, if I could offer you the golden "most-effed-up-refurb" award, I would right now!

Enjoy your touch screens everyone. May the loud audio, people laughing and screaching all around you, and dark tunnel be a most inspiring ending to a symbolic attraction.

Very true...It's very sad that SSE has been reduced to this level.

HOWEVER...It could be worse. It could be Nemo-fied and overly gaudy and foolish.Sure, the ending is lackluster but at least it focuses on EPCOT Center values-creating a future better for you and me.

It could be a LOT worse.

Well hey, at least they're being consistent (JII, Horizons, Seas, now SSE)! The only oddball in the mix is Soarin', but I guess they couldn't think of a good way to screw up transplanting the attraction from DCA to here. Give them some time, and maybe they will mess that up, too!

Two people who always say they are in the know and also were attacking Merf when he said this was the finished product. Telling him he had no idea what he was talking about. Corrus and Lee you know who you are. Where are you now. I made the statement I wanted to start a new thread attacking them as posting with false info like you guys did to ReDis who had about 80 pages of attacks against him. They were just as wrong about Spaceship Earth and got high and mighty about it when Merf called them out.

I agree 100%. I'm just suprised about how quiet the "insiders" have gotten on these boards. Many do owe Merf an apology, including me for doubting him, and I hope he keeps posting with the same critical analysis he has become known for. As for ReDis, his (or her) posts were the most interesting I have ever read here! ReDis, Please come back. You are missed.

Why do you guys even come to these boards? Your all so upset with how horrible Imagineering has become and all your favorite attractions ( SSE, Horizons, etc. ) that have been ruined! So why even show up here? I grew up loving WWF wrestling, and now it stinks, but you won't find me still hanging around wrestling message boards complaining about it.

One reason is because they have proven they still know how to get it right (Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth Ascent, Project Tomorrow, EE etc.). Remember, the customer is always right and nobody here wants to see WDW fade like the WWF has.

"Quality Will Out" is a quote from Disney himself.

At the time Lee and likes said it was not finished. I dont think the face was on the descent video at the time.....so unless they said something else they were right. Did I miss something?

Not a thing, my friend!

The Photo Capture and the tweaking of both audio and video meant that it wasn't done. Of course, that's unless you thought they were gonna' plop the Horizons Mesa Verde sets at the end, which of course, yes Merf was right on how that's not going to happen.

What's funny is how nobody's talking about how in the old ending, right after the SSE model, you got to ride through the next half of the ride looking at black curtains, listening to no audio except that cheezy wind sound, with faded and broken "wires" above you, and when you finally got to the bottom you were treated with a buzzing, covered up AT&T sign.

Now THAT was not such a great finale, IMHO.

I think most people thought the refurb would FIX such problems not just paper over them while also eliminating the good aspects of the descent. In the words of Merf, "Bad Show". :hammer:

I don't much care about it (since it's so widely hated here, not much I can say to sway anybody's mind.) But please, Bad Show wasn't Merf's term. It's a Disney term....I know because I myself have used it for years....

Ummm, I happen to know Merf used "Bad Show" in describing the new descent and everyone knows where he got the term and why he used it.

But thanks anyway.

Well, I guess what I loved most about the old ending was the inspirational narration by Jeremy Irons. IMHO, THAT was a better finale to me. I walked off the attraction with a great feeling that lasted me the whole day. I'm sorry, but Judi Dench's "send-off" with her "we don't know what lies ahead, see you in the future!" does not inspire me one bit. Maybe I'm an old soul, but I prefer more intricate, dynamic words to conclude such an important attraction.

But that's just me. :D

One of the touch screen options should be to be able to listen to the audio of the previous version and watch a video of the old ending on the descent.

Or at least the option to shut the screen off so you can end the ride in peace and total darkness.

If they would just run that cheap-o fiberoptic and neon crap through the decent, and allow us to turn of the screens, I would like the ride better.

Yea, me too.

I just think that (and again, I seem to have this problem everytime a new ride or refurb opens) berating the work of this team is far worse than stating what you think in a manner like you did above, instead of just saying how this is the worst thing to ever happen and wish nothing but death upon anyone who ever worked at WDI for this piece of finale garbage.

I would just like the "team" to get the money they originally needed to do the descent properly. I only blame the bean counters.

I would love to see some of the other concepts they might've tossed around.

Course, I always want to see that stuff for every attraction.

Could the letter be a standard letter sent out eventhough more changes could be made?
I think so...I guess we shall see.

Either way it is the way that they want it to be..I do not think that there will be enough people who will boycot SSE that they will change their minds and do things differently.
Writing letters and signing petitions may work for some things but not for everything..it did not work for CBJ Christmas show.

For as many people who hate the ending there are just as many who like it..whether they are here on magic or on another forum saying it we do not know.

We do not know for a fact that this is completely finished...that letter does not PROVE anything in my opinion..and if it is finished then why should the "insiders" owe Merf an apology?..They said it was not finished and when they said that the face features were not up and running yet..therefore not finished.

As for ReDis..he is not here posting because he was wrong..he (IMO) was a certain poster that was banned several times and kept making new screennames and spouting off nonsense that he knew would start drama..he was not an inside source as many people chose to believe and he has proven that by disapperaing once we caught on to him.
