Trip Report *Completed* Sleepless on the Savanna - Nov/Dec 2023

Hello Friends, and Happy Holidays!

As you already know if you caught my Pre-Trip Report, my husband J, our 2yo son L, and I got back from a WDW trip earlier this month. This was L's fourth trip, J's eighteenth, and my twentieth! Since I already did introductions in the PTR,, let's jump straight into the trip!

Sunday, November 26th - Travel Day

I set my alarm for 4:15 am - thankfully, there wasn't much to be done this morning, since my in-laws had kept L at their house for a few hours the day before, which gave J and I time to get everything packed and get the car loaded up, save for any last-minute items that we would need to use that morning. I barely slept the night before. I always get travel anxiety the night before a trip - what if I have the dates wrong, and we get down there and have nowhere to stay? What if I dreamed about making park reservations, but didn't actually make them? What if Disney's website cancels all of our dining reservations? It always makes for a restless nights' sleep. I tossed and turned most of the night, and finally accepted my fate at 4am, and rolled out of bed before my alarm went off.

I got myself ready, woke J up at 4:30, and once we were both ready, we loaded the go bag with last-minute items into the car. J thankfully remembered that he hadn't seen me pack L's stroller flag, which is a lifesaver when you're trying to find your stroller in a crowded stroller parking lot. I knew exactly where it was in L's closet, so I asked J to very quietly and very carefully get L out of bed and take him to the car, so that I could turn the lights on in L's room and grab the flag from the closet. As J was walking down the stairs carrying L, I heard L wake up and say "Dada? What are you doing? Dada, where are we going?" and when J didn't answer him and told him to go back to sleep, L said "Dada, where's Mama?" 😂 We were so hoping we'd be able to keep him asleep as we were putting him in his car seat, but it was not meant to be. We loaded L up, hopped in the car, and were pulling out of the driveway at 5:04 am.

IMG_7965.jpeg

Unfortunately, it took over an hour of driving before L finally fell back asleep. We love leaving early to beat the Atlanta traffic - we don't love how it messes with L's sleep. Two hours after we left the house, we made our first stop for breakfast and a bathroom break at Buc-ee's. I sat in the back with L once we got back to the car, to help him with his breakfast and try to avoid a huge mess in my backseat.

IMG_7966.jpeg

IMG_7967.jpeg

As we were leaving Buc-ee's, I checked our ETA on the GPS, and it said we'd arrive around 12:30. If only that had been the case. We stopped again just past the GA-FL border for gas and another bathroom break, and everything went downhill from there. Around the time we were driving through Lake City (where I-10 and I-75 meet), traffic starting to build up. The GPS on my phone showed nothing but red for miles and miles. I'm not sure what the issue was - it was raining, so that may have caused some problems - but traffic was backed up all the way to the Florida turnpike, and the drive that should have taken us 7.5 hours took us over 9 hours. 🙃 Finally, at 2:06 pm, we were pulling through the gates.

IMG_7969.jpeg

Our room was not ready yet, so we decided to stop in at Jambo House for lunch at The Mara. Of course, I got the room ready text right as we were getting out of the car. 😂🤷‍♀️

IMG_7970.jpeg

We headed into Jambo House anyway, grabbed some pictures of the Christmas tree, and mobile-ordered lunch. I clicked "I'm Here" as soon as we got in the elevator to head down to The Mara. It took about twenty minutes for our food to be ready - I always forget that the resort QS tends to take longer than the QS in the parks - I guess because they have fewer staff. For lunch, I got the vegetarian falafel platter, J got the chicken strips, and L got the kids' hamburger meal with fries and grapes.

IMG_7971.jpeg

IMG_7972.jpeg

I was underwhelmed by my meal - it was unfortunately pretty bland, which was surprising for falafel. After we finished lunch, we headed over to the Flamingo Crossings Target to pick up a Drive-Up order I had placed for things like milk, bottled water, snacks for the room, etc. We probably should have dropped our stuff off at Kidani Village first before heading to Target, because we ended up having to put everything in my lap/at my feet, which made for a fun time trying to get out of the car at Kidani. When we got to Kidani, Bell Services unloaded the car, including our groceries, and we parked in the garage and headed up to the room. Of course, we made a beeline for the balcony to check out the view - not too shabby!

IMG_7973.jpeg

IMG_7974.jpeg

Once we had gotten in to the room, I tried to call Bell Services to bring up our luggage. I sat on hold for over ten minutes before the call dropped. I tried again - same thing. I ended up just sending J down to go get our luggage himself - he said when he got down there, the two CMs working the Bell Services area didn't appear to be busy, so I'm not sure what the deal was - maybe an issue with their phone lines. Regardless, J brought our luggage up to the room, and I set about getting everything unpacked and organizing the room. J and I set up L's sleeping arrangements - an inflatable toddler bed inside of a blackout tent - and finally, we were done and headed out of the room shortly before 6pm.

Tuesday, November 28th - Magic Kingdom Day - Continued

Warning - this one is a little text-heavy

After riding Barnstormer twice, we decided to hop on the Walt Disney World railroad for the first time since its reopening. We boarded at the Storybook Circus station, and did the full loop.

IMG_8135.jpeg

At the Frontierland station, we got to see the new mural for Tiana's Bayou Adventure - I love the colors!

IMG_8137.jpeg

After we made our trip around the Magic Kingdom, it was time for our Winnie the Pooh LL return time. I didn't take any pics on the ride, but it was fun, as always. When we got off the ride, L saw that Winnie the Pooh and Tigger were meeting outside, and he asked to go see them. It was posted at a 25-minute wait time, which is a long time for a two-year-old, but L loves Tigger, so we decided to go for it. Unfortunately, this experience was less than stellar.

A few minutes after we had gotten in line, Pooh and Tigger left "for a honey break." No big deal, we're used to that with character meets. They were gone for about ten minutes, which is longer than usual, but we didn't think much of it. The family in front of us had a boy about a year older than L, and both boys were having a hard time waiting. Once they made it back, Pooh and Tigger met three parties, before they left again. At this point, we're getting a little annoyed, but thankfully, they were gone less than five minutes, and we were now the third party in line. However, once Pooh and Tigger made it back, they met one party of all adults, before Tigger left again, leaving only Pooh.

Based on their interaction, J and I surmised that one of the adults in the party knew the CM who was "friends with" Tigger. When they had finished their interaction and gotten their photos, Tigger left the area with them, leaving behind two dumbfounded parties with small children. Now, I'm not at all trying to shame adults who meet Disney characters - J and I used to do it from time to time pre-Lincoln. Heck, we used to love going to Garden Grill at Epcot. And if we're right and the party that got to meet both Tigger and Pooh knew the CM that was friends with Tigger, it's great that the CMs were able to make that interaction happen for them. However, that experience should not come at the expense of the experiences of young children - to young children, those are THE Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. They don't understand why Tigger "had to" leave.

Needless to say, J and I (and the other parents in line) were P I S S E D. Livid. I have never, in the nine years J and I have gone to the Disney parks together, complained to Guest Services, but I was very close to doing so. Thankfully, Lincoln was a good sport about it, and was still happy to meet Pooh. When it was our turn to go up, L ran right up to Pooh, took his hat off, and put it on one of Pooh's ears. 😂

IMG_8140.jpeg

I'm glad L still enjoyed his interaction with Pooh, despite Tigger not being there.

IMG_8141.jpeg

IMG_8142.jpeg

IMG_8144.jpeg

After we met Pooh, J and I wanted to try to salvage the rest of the night, so we asked L if he wanted to meet any other characters, or ride any rides. L requested Barnstormer, so we made our way back there, but lo and behold, it was closed. L was upset, so we tried to cheer him up by offering to take him to the playground inside the Dumbo queue...which was also closed. 0 for 2. We did ride Dumbo, but L was not happy about it. We ended up going back to one of L's favorites, the Carousel.

IMG_8145.jpeg

Thankfully, this cheered L right up.

IMG_8146.jpeg

IMG_8147.jpeg

We still had well over an hour until our dinner reservation, but we decided to head out of the park and end the night on a high note, rather than risking more disappointment trying to do anything else.

I didn’t know what reaction to use on your post - like, love, dislike or angry - so I went with WOW (negative) because of Tigger, Barnstormer and Dumbo, and WOW (positive) because of Lincoln being so stinking cute with Pooh and riding the carousel.
I feel like that's the best reaction. 😂 J and I were certainly in disbelief at the Tigger situation, but thankfully, L was a good sport about it.

Around 5:45. we started making our way out of the park, stopping to take some pictures on Main Street along the way.

Love the Mickey and Minnie topiary, hate the Disney 100 logo they've slapped in the front of all the parks

L had been asking to ride the monorail for weeks, and since we hadn't been able to ride it that morning, we headed to the resort monorail to head to our dinner reservation. Since MK was closing early for MVMCP, the line was long - it took us roughly 45 minutes from the time we left MK to get to the Poly. When we arrived at the Poly, we still had some time to kill before I could check us in for our dinner reservation, so we meandered around the main building for a bit, popping into the gift shops, and taking some pics.

IMG_8155.jpeg

IMG_8156.jpeg

At 7:10, I checked us in for our 7:30 reservation at 'Ohana, and by some miracle, we were called up to our table 5 minutes later. We were sat at a table right by a window, and had a view of MK - it's a shame the MVMCP fireworks are so late, this would have been the perfect spot to watch fireworks.

IMG_8158.jpeg

This was our first time dining at 'Ohana post-COVID. 'Ohana used to be one of our favorite spots, but unfortunately, we weren't wowed by the new menu. We enjoyed our old favorites - the noodles, the wings, and the potsickers - but the experience just wasn't the same without the servers coming around with the huge skewers of meat. It felt less "All You Care to Enjoy," and more "Please Eat and Leave ASAP." L mostly ate bread and shrimp - we were surprised he didn't loved the noodles, since he devours the Lo Mein from our local Chinese restaurant.

IMG_8157.jpeg

Of course, the bread pudding was still the star of the show, and was enjoyed by all.

IMG_8160.jpeg

Unfortunately, I don't think we'll be back to 'Ohana anytime soon. It's a costly meal, and we know it could be better, because it has been better. After we had finished our meal and settled the bill, we hopped back on the monorail to get back to our car at the TTC and head back to Kidani Village. We got L down for the night shortly after 9:00 pm. Overall, it had been a really great day in MK, despite the hiccups that occurred toward the end. If you ever find yourself aa WDW during the Halloween or Christmas seasons, I highly recommend hitting up MK during the first part of the day on a party day - the park is much less crowded, and you can accomplish so much, in so little time!

So sad to hear that Ohana has gone down hill. I've reading that a lot of people have been feeling rushed and underwhelmed lately.

Wednesday, November 29th - Non-Park Day

I was awakened around 4:00 am, when a certain two-year-old turned on the lamp next to the pull-out couch, exclaimed "It's Good Morning Time!" and proceeded to hop out of his bed and turn on all of the lights in the room.

Stressed David Rose GIF by Schitt's Creek

I turned all of the lights back off, laid in his bed with him, and thankfully, was able to get him to go back to sleep until around 6:00 am. So much for sleeping in and relaxing on our non-park day. 😅 Our breakfast reservation this morning was not until 9:30, and we did not have far to go, so we hung around the room and took our time getting ready. Around 9:00, we started making the trek over to Jambo House. When we arrived, I checked us in for our reservation at Boma, and we did not have to wait for long before we were called back to be seated.

J and I split a pressed pot of coffee, and the three of us all partook in the POG juice (or whatever they call it at Boma). Boma is our favorite breakfast on property, so J and I happily loaded up our plates with the delicious goat cheese and chives scrambled eggs, seasoned "potato barrels," and french toast bread pudding, among other favorites. L tried a little bit of everything, but mostly ate watermelon and scrambled eggs. Thank goodness he ate for free. 😂

IMG_8162.jpeg

After we had stuffed ourselves full and paid our bill, we headed out to the Jambo House bus stop to start our day. While we were not headed into the parks, our first stop of the day was Hollywood Studios. We waited for quite some time before a HS bus arrived. There were a lot of families waiting to start their park day - one of the dads spent a good bit of time pacing back and forth (dramatic much?) - so we hung back and let other groups board first, since we weren't in a hurry. Thankfully, we all made it onto the bus, and after arriving at HS, the three of us headed for a different mode of transportation..

IMG_8164.jpeg

L has loved the Skyliner since his first trip to WDW - it's the main reason we chose the resort we did for our 2024 trip. So he was happy as a clam to be boarding the Skyliner and heading to Caribbean Beach. Once we arrived at CBR, we grabbed some coffees from the Joffrey's location at the Skyliner hub. J and I both enjoyed the Toffee Flight Latte, which is the signature drink for that location. Our original intention was to get our coffees and then get back on the Skyliner and head to Art of Animation, but we decided to take a stroll around CBR first, since we were considering it for our 2024 trip.

IMG_8165.jpeg

IMG_8166.jpeg

J and I stayed at CBR back in May 2018, when the Skyliner was still newly under construction, and CBR was undergoing a major refurbishment, so it was nice to see everything finished, and not a million walls up everywhere. After our stroll around CBR, we hopped back on the Skyliner and headed to Art of Animation. L loves the Cars movies (he's already requested a Lightning McQueen party for his birthday...in June), so we let him take his time wandering around the Cars section of the resort.

IMG_8168.jpeg

IMG_8169.jpeg

IMG_8172.jpeg

We also popped over to the Lion King section, where we let L play in the elephant graveyard.

IMG_8174.jpeg

Art of Animation has one of my favorite Christmas trees on property, so of course we popped into the lobby to take some pics, and peruse the gift shop. J and I had brought our refillable resort mugs, so we also grabbed some Powerade from the food court.

Wednesday, November 29th - Non-Park Day - Continued

After we had wrapped up at AoA, we hopped back on the Skyliner, and headed to Epcot. Once we had arrived at Epcot, we made the leisurely stroll over to the Boardwalk. We loved their gingerbread house for 2023!

IMG_8178.jpeg

L was past due for a nap, so we gave him a snack, and strolled around for a while until he fell asleep. I never get tired of this view.

IMG_8179.jpeg

L fell asleep around the time we reached the Beach Club. Unfortunately, he missed out on seeing the gingerbread carousel - although that might be a good thing, since when J and I told him about it, he asked if he could ride it. 😂 2023's carousel was Duck Tales themed.

IMG_8180.jpeg

IMG_8181.jpeg

After we had wrapped up at Beach Club, we wanted to give L some time to nap. J and I were feeling a little hungry, so we decided to take the Skyliner back to Riviera to get a bite to eat from Primo Piatto. Thankfully, L slept through the journey. When we arrived at Riviera, there was a family with a little girl, maybe 4 or 5 years old, who was scream-singing "At Last I See the Light" from Tangled, from the moment we passed the mosaic murals, to the time we reached the main building. J and I could not get away fast enough. 😅

IMG_8182.jpeg

IMG_8183.jpeg

IMG_8184.jpeg

IMG_8185.jpeg

We decided to split the Spicy Italian Sandwich, and refilled our resort mugs while we waited for our mobile order to be ready. We had initially intended to eat inside, but it was surprisingly loud in there, so we took our food to a table out near the water, and enjoyed our food al fresco. It was the perfect day for it. After we had finished eating, L was still snoozing away, so we decided to kill some time by grabbing a couple coffees from La Petit Cafe - J got the Shakerato, and I got the Almond Cold Brew. We sat on a couch in the lobby and enjoyed our coffees until L woke up from his nap.

After L woke up from his nap, we headed out to the Riviera bus stop to catch a bus to MK. Once at MK, we hopped on the resort line monorail. We decided to skip on the Contemporary, as we've never found their gingerbread display to be all that exciting, and their Christmas tree is best viewed at night. Since we had already been to the Poly the night before, we stayed on until the Grand Floridian. We gave L another snack on the ride there.

IMG_8191.jpeg

At the Grand Floridian, we showed L their iconic gingerbread house - the line to buy treats was a little long for us, so we settled for some pics. The GF tree is Twelve Days of Christmas themed, so we always spend a few moments trying to spot the different days' ornaments.

IMG_8193.jpeg

IMG_8192.jpeg

IMG_8194.jpeg

J and I dined at the Grand Floridian Cafe one year on Valentine's Day, and the lobby still smelled like gingerbread - I can imagine the CMs that work inside of the house go home smelling delicious every day!

Once we were done at Grand Floridian, we hopped back on the monorail for the short ride to MK, where we transferred to the Fort Wilderness boat launch. This was our first time back at Fort Wilderness since the trip in December 2020, when I was 13 weeks pregnant with Lincoln. J and I have always said that if we had to pick one resort to stay at every single year, it'd be the Fort Wilderness cabins - we'll see if that changes once we've stayed in the updated cabins.

IMG_8196.jpeg

We wanted to take L over to Tri Circle D ranch to see the horses, but unfortunately, it was closed for a private event. So. we popped into the Settlement Trading Post before heading to the bus stop to catch a bus to Wilderness Lodge.

IMG_8198.jpeg

We had to wait a good while for a Wilderness Lodge bus to come, and we had Shirley Status once a bus finally arrived. Of course, we had to grab some pics of the Wilderness Lodge Christmas tree. One of these days, we're going to stay here during the holidays.

IMG_8199.jpeg

IMG_8200.jpeg

It was around 6:00 pm at this point, and we were all ready for some dinner. We had never dined at Geyser Point, so we decided to give it a try. For dinner, J got the Bison Cheeseburger, which our server told us was ranked the best burger on property - J said it was good, but he thinks the burgers at D-Luxe are better (I tried a bite, and I agreed). I got the Steak Sandwich, which was delicious. It comes with a smoked gouda sauce, which I dipped my fries in. L got the kids' cheese flatbread meal, which he devoured.

IMG_8202.jpeg

IMG_8201.jpeg

After dinner, we didn't want to use the boat launch to MK to get back to our resort, as it was a pretty chilly night, which meant it would be even colder on the water. Instead, we took a bus from Wilderness Lodge to Epcot, and L made friends with another boy around his age on the bus. The kid's mom was telling us about how their son loved Turtle Talk with Crush, and the boys proceeded to spend the rest of the ride saying "Hey Dude!" back and forth to each other. 😂 J and I always used to laugh at how easily little kids seem to make friends on the Disney buses, so it was sweet that it was now our kid making friends. Once at Epcot, we transferred to an AKL bus and headed back to the room to get L down for another sleepless night.

I more or less agree. I'm not a fan of the changes and there are other restaurants I want to try before I go back to Ohana (which used to be a must do).

Thursday, November 30th - Hollywood Studios Day

L and I were up before 6:00 this morning, and I purchased Genie+ for the day ($22/person - ouch). At 7:00, I made our first LL reservation - I was hoping for Slinky Dog Dash, but it was already booked up until the afternoon, so I settled for a 9:10-10:10 MMRR, and decided we'd rope-drop SDD. We decided against forking out the extra money for a Rise LL this time around. HS was opening at 8:30 am for resort guests, so we headed out of the room around 7:30, and we were parked and through security by 8:00. HS, as usual, was very people-y.

IMG_8205.jpeg

IMG_8206.jpeg

We headed for Toy Story Land first, along with every other family with young kids.

IMG_8207.jpeg

The three of us all hopped in line for SDD, and once we got up to the Rider Swap CM, we set up Rider Swap, and J took L over to Toy Story Mania, while I stayed in the standby line for SDD.

IMG_8208.jpeg

By the time the park had officially opened for resort guests, I had made it to the covered portion of the queue.

IMG_8209.jpeg

I only ended up having to wait about 25 minutes - not too shabby!

IMG_8211.jpeg

While I was on SDD, J took L over to Toy Story Mania - this was L's first time riding, and J said that he would not keep the 3D glasses on, but he seemed to enjoy playing with the controller. Our original plan was for me to take L back on Toy Story Mania while J rode SDD, but we saw that Woody and Jessie were about to start meeting guests, so L and I waited in line for that, while J rode SDD. L was excited to meet Woody and Jessie until it was our time to go up - then, he proceeded to hide behind my legs. I held him and talked to Woody and Jessie to try to get him to warm up to them, but L just wasn't feeling it, so we took a couple quick pics, and left.

IMG_5726.jpeg

J got off SDD right as L and I were meeting Woody and Jessie. The three of us rode Alien Swirling Saucers together - it was a walk-on this early in the morning. Hands up!

By this point, we were all a little hungry. We grabbed a couple lunchbox tarts from Woody's Lunchbox - one raspberry and one hot cocoa-flavored. By some miracle, we were able to find a table to sit at while we enjoyed our tarts.

While we were sitting there, I ordered a couple Black Caf Cold Brew coffees from Kat Saka's Kettle in Galaxy's Edge. We had 30 minutes until our mobile order window closed, so I figured that gave us plenty of time to eat and head back that way. But, when I set my phone down on the table after placing our mobile order, the screen suddenly changed to say "Your Order is Ready, Please Proceed to the Mobile Order Pickup Area." So, we abandoned our table at Woody's Lunchbox and walked very briskly back to Galaxy's Edge to fetch our coffees. When we arrived, the CM asked "Are you Katie? We've been waiting for you!" I explained what happened, and they said that they had accidentally bumped us to the front of the line when our order came through. 😂 We grabbed our coffees, and found a table over at Ronto Roasters to drink our coffees and finish our lunchbox tarts.

Thursday, November 30th - Hollywood Studios Day - Continued

While we were drinking our space coffees, I noticed that our MMRR LL had been converted to a multi-experience LL, as MMRR was currently down. So, we decided to head over to the Disney Junior area to kill some time until it came back up. We walked back through Toy Story Land on the way there, and I grabbed a pic of the Hamm Cookie - this thing is just so unhinged, and we all love it.

We got to the Disney Junior area right after a dance party had started, but there were characters currently meeting, so we asked Lincoln if he wanted to meet anyone. He said he wanted to meet Vampirina, but as soon as we got to the front of the line, he hid behind me. He then repeated the same process with Pluto. We decided to take a break from characters for the rest of the day. To this day, I wonder if his sudden negative reaction to characters had anything to do with our experience with Tigger two days prior. Once they had opened up the doors for the next Disney Junior Dance Party, we headed in. Thankfully, L seemed to enjoy it more this time around than he had in 2022.

After we had gotten out of the dance party, we noticed that MMRR had re-opened, so we headed over to ride it. the Lightning Lane was wayyyy backed up, but thankfully, L was more than happy to entertain himself by playing with my handheld fan. On the ride, L sat in between J and I this time around, instead of on one of our laps, and he had a blast. He was laughing throughout the entire ride!

Earlier in the morning, once our original return time for MMRR was up, I booked J and I a LL return time for ToT. That return window had opened, so after MMRR, we headed over to Sunset Boulevard. I rode ToT first, and the poor woman next to me kept grabbing my arm every time we would drop. 😂

While I rode, J and L hung out by the ride exit, where L discovered pressed penny machines. Of course, neither J or I had change on us. When we first started going to WDW, pressed pennies were 50 cents each, but now they're a dollar? They do have an option to swipe your card, but it's $5 for four pennies. I wonder how much money Disney is making off of these machines every year.

I did not want to get suckered into swiping my card for some pennies while J was riding ToT, so I took L over to the Lightning McQueen Racing Academy area to see Cruz Ramirez and DJ.

Thursday, November 30th - Hollywood Studios Day - Continued

After we had ridden ToT, it was time to head back to Toy Story Land to check in for our lunch reservation at Roundup Rodeo BBQ. I checked us in on the app as we were walking into Toy Story Land. While we were waiting, we checked out the merchandise stand by Slinky Dog Dash, where L asked for a Luxo Jr. Ball. Unfortunately, before we had a chance to purchase it, I got the notification that our table was ready, so we told him we'd come back to get it later...and we never did (oops!). L got to ride a toy horse to our table...

We were seated near Bo Peep, and L stayed occupied with a coloring sheet until our food arrived.

We got the standard BBQ platter, and chose the mac and cheese, Married Spuds (tater tots), and baked beans as our sides. J enjoyed the brisket and ribs the most, and I enjoyed the cheese biscuits, mac and cheese, and tots, while L mostly ate mac and cheese and watermelon salad. For our desserts, J and I both chose the blueberry lemon cheesecake, and L got the Forky Cupcake.

IMG_5755.jpeg

We all enjoyed our lunch, although J and I agreed that this was probably a one and done for us, unless L requests to go back. At $45/adult and $25/child, it's roughly the same price as the character breakfast at Hollywood & Vine. The theming of the restaurant is really cool, but we feel like this is a huge missed opportunity for a character meal. Many 90s kids who grew up with Toy Story now have young kids of our own, so a Toy Story character meal would be a huge hit with adults and kids alike.

After lunch, L was way overdue for a nap, and we had finished everything we wanted to get done that day at HS, so we headed out of the park. We planned to go to Disney Springs, since we had not gotten to spend much time there on our check-in day. We were hoping that L would nap in the car, and we could just chill in the parking garage until he woke up, but L was still wide awake when we arrived at DS. So, we loaded him up in the stroller, and walked around DS until he finally fell asleep.

While L was napping, J and I spent some time browsing in World of Disney, and grabbed a couple stocking stuffers for L. We also went in some of our other favorite shops - Disney's Days of Christmas, The Marketplace Co-Op, Tren-D, and Disney Style, as well as the new Bowes Signature Candles store. Lincoln loves M&Ms, so we also popped into the M&Ms store, where we got custom M&Ms with his picture printed on them, to surprise him with when he woke up. Once we had finished our shopping, we sat on a bench chatting and people-watching while we waited for L to wake up, and we spotted Molly and Alan from Mammoth Club filming a video. We did not want to bother them while they were working, so we fangirled from a distance.

After an hour and a half nap, Prince Charming woke up. We showed him his M&Ms, which he loved, and we let him eat a few while we facetimed the grandparents. Afterward, J and I were looking at each other like...well now what? We had planned to have dinner in DS, but we had done everything we wanted to do there, and didn't want to sit around for another hour or two until we were ready for dinner. We hadn't been wowed by The Mara at AKL, so we didn't want to get dinner there either. So, we decided to head out of the bubble to try the new Raising Canes for dinner, as we had seen Tim Tracker post a recent video about it. I had had Raising Canes several years ago when I was in Texas for work, but the only one in Georgia for the longest time has been in Athens, near UGA (although they've been slowly expanding into Metro Atlanta).

On our way out of DS, we stopped to let L ride the train over in the Marketplace area. A lot of kids were riding by themselves, but we didn't think L would be comfortable with that, so we bought tickets for both J and L. L loved the train, and immediately requested to ride again.

The drive over to Raising Cane's did not take too long, and we made it through the drive-thru surprisingly quickly. However, the drive back to WDW took forever. The same thing happened last year when we got dinner offsite -we must have timed it horribly with rush-hour traffic. We finally made it back to AKL, where we ate our (now cold) dinner and watched "The Little Mermaid" before getting L bathed and put down for the night.

As I've said for the past couple years, Hollywood Studios is easily the worst park with young kids. L should hopefully be tall enough for Slinky Dog Dash on our next trip, so that will be one more thing he can enjoy, but unless your little one is super into characters, there's just not a lot for little kids to do. I think the park as a whole needs more filler attractions - the e-ticket attractions are all great, but Genie+ is so competitive at HS, so you're going to end up either skipping some rides or waiting in long lines for some of the attractions. We've relegated HS to a half-day for us for now, until Lincoln is old/tall enough to enjoy some of the bigger rides.

Friday, December 1st - Epcot Day

We had a rough start this morning - Lincoln was awake from around 1am to 5am, and once we had finally gotten him back asleep, he was back up shortly after 6am. Jason and I were both dragging, but like I'd said the other day, if we're going to be awake, we might as well be awake in a Disney park. I purchased Genie+ for $18/person...

And then at 7:00, I grabbed a boarding group for GOTG Cosmic Rewind, as well as a LL for Spaceship Earth.

IMG_8236.png

We left the room around 7:30, drove to Epcot, and we had made it through security and were walking into the park just before 8:00.

IMG_8237.jpeg

We headed to the right side of Future World (World Nature, whatever you want to call it) and waited with the masses until they officially opened the park to resort guests at 8:30. While we were waiting, L checked out one of the Festival passports.

IMG_8238.jpeg

Once the metaphorical rope had dropped, we headed to the Land pavilion to rope-drop Soarin'. J and I both miss Soarin' over California, so we were excited to see that Disney was bringing it back for a limited time. We set up Rider Swap, and J rode first while I kept L entertained. L, of course, found the pressed penny machines, and I got suckered into swiping my card and paying $5 for four pressed pennies. 😂 🤷‍♀️ Once J was out, he took over with L while I rode Soarin'.

IMG_8239.jpeg

I was surprised when I found myself teary-eyed immediately upon hearing the old Soarin' music - I knew it would be exciting to see it again, but I was not expecting to have such an emotional reaction. I snapped a high-quality pic of the orange grove scene to remember the occasion.

IMG_8240.jpeg

When I emerged from Soarin', J and L were sitting at a table in Sunshine Seasons - I met up with them, and the three of us rode Living with the Land, which was a walk-on.

I always love the seasonal touches in this ride!
