Yeah similar to Disneyland, DLP, and Shanghai -- have it be a buffer between the park and then transitioning into the shopping district (Sydney Springs?)

This way we have our traditional classic Main Street entrance -- transitioning into a newly designed Fantasia Gardens which helps alleviate the qualms of the typical one way street congestion seen before -- with side streets and alleys for traffic flow throughout!

I think that works. We could do Sydney Springs (which is a better sounding name) or Alice Springs (a town in Northern Australia) and give the shopping district an outback theme.

Morning everyone!

So today -- the main goal for me will be talking about the entrance...as many opinions as possible would be great at this juncture.

Nothing is finalized yet but to catch everyone up on the last few pages -- some of the top suggestions have been.

Option #1

Early 1900s Australian town center (similar to what is seen in Saving Mr Banks) transitioning into Fantasia Gardens

Option #2

Purely Fantasia Gardens with winding paths, water, forests - similar to Disney Animal Kingdom's -- The Oasis

Option #3
Fantasia Gardens, in a traditional Main Street style.

Instead of themed around a turn of the century town -- the main street is designed after styles from Fantasia, leading to Fantasia Hub -- this is similar to the concept of Mickey Avenue...taking a Main Street design and turning it into something else.

Option #4
enterancesolution-png.202436

Double-Decker Main-Street.

1st floor - indoors, filled with shops
2nd floor - greenery, exploratory

Option #5 - Something Else!
Wow, this is a tough choice to make. Okay, um Option 2, 3 or 4.

Seems like we're coming together around this idea of having the Sydney "classic" style Main Street as a lead in to the actual park.

I'm also thinking @D Hindley had an idea for a duel themed mountain attraction -- to fit two lands (I think it was for Discoveryland/Villains Land way back when)

I could see us using a similar design with the railroad station. From the Sydney side -- have it themed as if its an old fashioned train station...when guests walk underneath the station -- they are transported to the Fantasia Gardens.

However exiting the park, you don't see the Sydney old fashioned style on the railroad station, instead you see rolling hills that you walk through (or something like that from the film) that transports you back out to old Sydney.

Yeah, dual-sided mountain concept. Different sides allow for different themes.

I've been thinking that Neoclassical architecture might be a good transitional element from "nostalgic semi-Victorian Sydney/Australia" to "Greco-Roman Fantasia Gardens." Like the style of the monuments in DC. The inside half of the entry train station (or even both sides?) could be that style, as would park service structures near the entry.

This whole Fantasia thing has fired my brain up! Expect more this evening when I get the time to ramble on at length.

Maybe I'll also go photograph in person that "Australian" SoCal train station they used for Saving Mr Banks. It's like 5 minutes from home! Very Victorian.

That would be great if you could take some pictures at that train station! Be the perfect inspiration.

And yeah I'm thinking about a ton of options for this entrance now with Fantasia! I'll have more tonight as well! But first I'll get the Bald Mountain pic I promised @orlando678- yesterday!

I'm supporting option 3, with elements of option 2 added in as the street nears the central hub and castle.

Picking this because of the unique architectural opportunities of a Fantasia themed main street, the logistical practicality, and the transitional potential toward the castle. If we want to do something really different but realistic, this is it.

Also support the idea for the secondary retail zone- Sydney Springs- outside of the park, for the reasons I discussed last night.

I will say the classic Main Street with crowd overflow gardens @D Hindley thought of is actually brilliant.

here is a crude attempt to fuse options 2 and 3, keeping the Main Street shopping corridor (with Fantasia theme), and placing winding garden pathways on either side of it (great for congestion with parades!). Each route has a different style of reveal for the castle. Attractions can be placed in the garden areas at the end of the two corridor side streets. Backstage access to the shops and restaurants is underground below the garden paths. The town square past the station can surely be modified even further to work like The Oasis.

Random detail - the floral Mickey has his sorcerer hat.

Was thinking (maybe it's obvious) that each shop and restaurant along the corridor could use a different segment from Fantasia or from 2000 as its theme, while all keep a bit of the Roman garden look we've been creating. Fantasyland shops in the castle maybe lose their Fantasia tie-ins to do this, but there's plenty of other stuff they could retheme to.

It has MK's overflow road already built in on both sides.... still dumps off at the emporium/confectionary location as well. It promotes crowd flow and retail... makes complete sense.

Plus if an expansion is wanted in the future... you already have a path with extra room on either side of the "Main Street" - Not bad.

Sounds like a plan -- even with option #3 it still lends itself to a bit of all the other options as well, with Sydney Springs as well as some streets similar to option 2.

@D Hindley drew up a rough sketch for it that I really liked -- any thoughts on this design?

I can go with this and I can start to image how I can plan and draw this out. So this is definitely my choice.

Awesome! And I'm sure Douglas won't mind -- we all trust your creative input in drawing out the layout in realistic terms as you see fit!
Go ahead with your drawing, @Imagineerland. @D Hindley doesn't mind. :)

So I went and visited the train station where they shot Saving Mr Banks. The Santa Anita Depot near LA, but supposed to be old school Australia. I took photos...but the Internet's were better:

In case we want a unique train station in the Victorian style, this is a candidate.

What do you guys think about #4 except sort of reverse?
The bottom could be the gardens except there are floating mountains above
(second story technically) that you enter the shops from.
Using sightlines to block the view of the shops "show buildings"... only the shops' entrances would be in the floating mountains, but the actual shop/bakery/etc. would be connected by an enclosed path. We could do this for only twice or something. Maybe not in the floating mountains but on a hill under them leading to believe they are connected? I'm kind of confused myself with what I'm saying:p.

And we could pull an Oasis/Main Street. Perhaps the actual hub could be completely inside by castle walls and with a sort of magic entrance to the various parklands.

Like the hub could be inside the courtyard in front of the castle and be comprised of fountains. Perhaps not surrounding the entire hub... just a much larger presence than the others. And on the outside of the gates could be the entrance land themed to the mystical like floating mountains, dragons, and unicorns. Maybe this could be sort of an Avatar version of Beastly Kingdom:p.
Also, maybe outside the gate could be the Oasis type area instead... which after that leads to the standard outside of park Downtown-Disney type of shopping.
