And while I don't think any of us have been to Shanghai yet...this is an excellent walk around video of the Mickey Avenue and Gardens of Imagination areas

(Yes it does feel very similar to Sydney Waterfront then Fantasia Gardens - albeit ours was on a smaller scale similar to Disneyland,CA)

I say if we do Sydney Waterfront then the train station needs to be at the end of the street. Walt always intended for the train station to be the curtain for the fantastical. I think it'd be awesome to mix up the Main Street concept by doing a realistic but romanticized modern day Sydney and then have the curtain open on the hub and castle in all it's glory. Fantasia Gardens acting as Main Street would be an interesting unique twist and you could have the station at it's traditional spot. I like both.

Two side notes:
Mickey Avenue is SHORT and that's a real disadvantage for it. We need a decent size for our entry corridor.
Can we do that terrace idea for Tomorrowland's paths? I love it.

I haven't been to Sydney, but I gather it's a rather clean city....why do a modern version of it?

I'm not attacking, just curious...

I do agree about everything else you said, there needs to be that curtain aspect. WHOLLY agreed...and something that some of the newer parks have failed at (yes, I'm looking at you DCA and AK)...

Definitely possible...and if cruises are popular it would make financial sense at least to open up a few more ports for other cruises as well.
A neither here nor there, but yes, pleasure cruises are extremely popular. They don't just do NZ, they literally do like Cali, and just do a few days at sea and return to port.

Check it out...you'll see what I mean.

CA has a very similar cruising culture, though they normally port in Mexico, not always....even DCL, which has a few runs that literally go out from San Diego, and do a big circle.

Just a quick search there. So I'm guessing a DCL from Sydney to Aulani could be a possibility? It'd still be long but roughly half the distance to LA.

Ah, Zweiland and I addressed that in our new class of ships. :p

Yes, it could be, but not with the Fantasy Class unless one was built on the west coast. The Fantasy Class ships cannot pass through the Canal.

I can't remember if we included it in our final presentation, but we proposed the new class of ships to have several home harbors, specifically pacific ones.

Give me a bit, I can try and dig it up...

I actually love the idea for the terraced paths in Tomorrowland -- would add some green to an otherwise concrete jungle.

And for the entrance-way like I said before I'm good with whatever the group as a whole agrees upon. All I would like to see is something that will
a) alleviate traffic backups as efficiently as possible
b) create that stretch and compress style that will transition towards the castle effectively
c) Not overwhelm guests -- we want them on the move to get to the hub, and then slowly meandering through the shops on the way back.

I like to do lots of imagery research, and thought I'd run some past @englanddg, all for some ideas of an Australian-inspired Main Steeet.

PL Travers who wrote Mary Poppins was Australian, though she then moved to London. From researching Australia as how it appeared in Saving Mr. Banks (turns out it's all stuff filmed less than 10 miles from my house in LA County):

Then I looked up the LA Arboretum (walkable from home!), a filming location and actually it seems a great way to transition from Victorian architecture to the Fantasia Gardens style we're discussing for the hub (@MonorailRed):

Smells like he edited a post...nothing wrong with that, but sorry that I responded before he was ready.

I think a terraced concept is really unique!

I actually went further, if I dig up the chats with Zwei and I...I planned out the time it took, etc.

These are realistic itineraries. Little details only judges at the time would know.

Zwei and I originally wanted to make this part of the presentation a walkthrough of itineraries...but ran out of time.

Very nice here! Thought I remembered a town like that in Saving Mr. Banks.
