One Little Spark...
Another idea if we decide to go this route...we really don't need a straight path to a hub and spoke. The castle could be looming across the harbor and you take a path to the lands similar to the design of Tokyo DisneySEA. Not sure how well it will work but just a late night thought.
tds1.jpg
The thing is, you want the reveal between areas. The Castle is a massive "destination" from the world of the past as you walk up Main St. to the world of fantasy...and from there you can branch off.

I see where you are going with this, and agree...but, be careful not to go too much into the DisneySEA concept...

It's still, at its base as I understand it...a Castle Park.

Off the cuff, but what about instead of a circling train (or in complement to it) there is a circling waterway that links the various water portions, and allows for another transit option within the park?
Do it in compliment with the train. Magic Kingdom parks NEED trains (c'mon, Shanghai!)! There's plenty of shared water transportation between the park's entire west side (Pacific Wharf, Frontierland, Critter Country, Adventureland). We could expand that to park-wide if we're going more DisneySea with this.

I agree. Complementary. It could make for some rather interesting bridge transitions for the two modes as well, providing some unique landscape opportunities for both the train and the boats...

I do agree that a train berm is needed.

And depending on where we are with the ocean, the train could even sometimes travel on trestles over the waters (with a shore break beyond that acting as the berm for that area).

You're right...one of the things I had with the old Colonial Concept was to go from New England...to Old England (which since Fantasia doesn't have a castle in the film...we were going to base the design of that castle off of old English architecture)

Now I'm trying to visualize going from Sydney to the castle :bookworm:

Exactly! And it would be visually stimulating for those on the train, those passing underneath on a boat, and those taking in the scene itself.

Layers layers layers.

That's where I think Disneyland beats the socks out of WDW...they layer things so well (in Disneyland).

Not sure it works.

However, a berm with an entrance of Sydney (which is really nothing more than a facade, not an experience...maybe a few "pre-ticket" shops and restaurants or something...)...but after you pass the berm, you jump straight into an enchanted forest that blocks you from views of anything?

You work your way through the enchanted forest, and find the central part (the castle, it is a castle park)...and work your way around from there.

Sortof a reverse analysis of the modern psyche, where imagination is actually more common, but reality and history is not. (ok, that is a bit political, but don't read into it)

Been reading Baudrillard's analysis of Disneyland and false consciousness?

A highly underrated movie. @Voxel and I did an Animal Kingdom thing with it once.

An Aussie theme to the forest could be interesting...though the movie really didn't take place in the parts of Aussie where the rainforests are.

This one right? It was good!

Team Air
airlogosmall-jpg.60091

This time around, every team has 24 hours to think up a new, cultured continent for Disney's Animal Kingdom. You have 20 sentences (no run-ons) or less and only 3 pictures to put your best on display.

Go crazy. As many rides, as many restaurants, as many shows, and as many shops as you want. Just make sure it all realistically fits within the park's current boundaries.

Furthermore, you are forbidden from developing outside of your new land, including tearing down current infrastructure. So, what will it be?
