Christmas Music

Well, two of our most popular radio stations in town have already switched over to an all-Christmas music format--a week BEFORE Thanksgiving. There's really nothing like Christmas music, so it got me to thinking about my favorite and all that stuff. So, this is a three-part question:

1. What is your favorite Christmas song?
2. If you could only play one Christmas CD on Christmas morning, what would it be?
3. What is your favorite Christmas musical memory?

For me, my favorite song is probably It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year by Andy Williams.

The one CD I would play is Michael W. Smith's Christmastime.

My favorite musical memory was going to Nashville with one of my best friends and going to see Amy Grant's Christmas show--7 rows from the front and we got to see Amy, Michael W. Smith, Vince Gill, Gary Chapman, Faith Hill:slurp: and the Nashville Symphony Orchestra. An unbelieveable night and we got to spend the night at the Opryland Hotel--all of this at our friend's expense. I'll never forget that night.

My favorite song- O Holy Night
CD- Home for Christmas by Amy Grant especially Emmanuel, God With Us and The Night Before Christmas

Can't think of a musical memory, but I know Christmas 1994 renewed my faith in God.

Well There are no stations playing all Christmas music, 106.5 a Clear channel station tried that 2 years ago and the outcry against it was so great that last year they stopped that.
My favorite Christmas CD is the Carpentars Christmas and my 3 favorite Christmas songs are Ave Maria, The Little Drummer Boy and The Christmas Cannon by Trans syberian Orchestra.:D

It's almost time for them to start playing it at work too. Probably next week! Whoo!

My favorite Christmas song is Good King Wencelas (sp?)
And oh my gosh, Christmas CD. My family has the best one. It's Gary Hoey's Christmas. If you haven't heard this you so have to try it out. It's hilarious.
And my memory....one year my sister and I got the Hanson Christmas album...yes I am ashamed. And she started listening to it year round cuz she was 8 and claimed "Christmas will come faster."

We have one station 102.7 that started Christmas music 24/7 2 weeks ago.

I love Harry Connick, Jr.'s version of Ave Maria.

My favorite Christmas album is definitely Morman Tabernacle Choir. I love the choir sounds for Christmas songs.

My favorite musical memory is singing 12 Days of Christmas with the Muppets on the way to dance school with my friends and sister!

Darrel, that is a great arrangement of that song. Amazing the range she had in her voice. And that is also a great CD. One of my favorites. Time to break em out!:xmas:

Two of our stations have jumped on the Christmas Music bandwagon too. I wouldn't normally mind, because I LOVE Christmas music, but much of what they play I wouldn't even classify as holiday tunes....they REALLY need to get more in their Christmas music libraries and stop being so secular!
If they are going to do it....then they need to remember the "reason for the season"!!!

With that said, my favorite Christmas song is "Joy to the World"! I also like the Boston Pops version of "Sleigh Ride" and Andy Williams' crooning of "It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year"!, but prefer the more religious messages of the traditional Christmas Carols, like "Silent Night".

I am a musician and choral director, so I have a HUGE library of Christmas music. This response will surprise anyone who knows me well, but one of my favorite Christmas CDs is by 98 Degrees. I liked it for it's great harmonies and fresh new songs.

Aside from performances I am involved in every year, my favorite Musical Memory was taking my parents to see the Vince Gill Christmas Concert a few years ago. What made it special was that I only went because THEY were fans of his and it really was special for them to see the show. The amazing thing was - it was so good, I became a fan too! Now we ALL listen to his Christmas CD together!

:sohappy: :xmas: :sohappy: :xmas: :sohappy: :xmas:

There are so many that I love. I can't pick just one. Jingle Bell Rock, Rockin Around the Christmas Tree, Do They Know It's Christmas?, Last Christmas, Silver Bells... and the list goes on.

There are some that I love that you never hear anymore (around here anyway). They are some of the funny ones. One is The Twelve Days of Christmas by the Mckenzie Brothers "On the first day of Christmas my true love gave to me.....a beer"

Favorite song: tie between Carol of the Bells and Once in David's Holy City

Favorite CD: Songs of Angels: Christmas Hymns and Carols by Robert Shaw Chamber Singers This CD has rerecording of many songs that Robert Shaw recorded for Firestone back in the 50s.
I also love Nat King Cole's The Christmas Song CD.

My favorite Christmas musical memory was a bunch of us (we were in HS) sitting around playing guitars and singing carols to my friend's mother, who was paralyzed from the neck down in the 1958? polio epidemic. She breathed with an external chest compressor, unless she got a cold; then she had to go back into an iron lung. She was one of the few adults who gave us credit for having any sense, and was always happy to talk with us, even in the wee hours of the morning. (She slept at odd hours)

Thats what Christian Radio Stations are for.... :)

Some people dont like the "religious messages" Crammed down there throat.

Our "LITE" station flipped to x-mas music this past Wed. Its a MAINSTREAM station, meaning it attractacts a wide audience...

Now.. if you were to toss in a LOT of "religious message" songs... you would probally turn off a lot of people and advertisers, and everyone gets upset.

Its best to just play General Holiday songs... keep everyone happy... and leave the "religious messages" to the Gospel and Christian radio stations... as that is there audience anyway. :)

*Edited to explain a bit more*

Not all Religious christmas songs cram anything down anyones throat, like say O holy Night or Silent Night, IT`s sad though that some people want to take the Christ out of CHRISTmas and beleive me I`m not a religious zealot.after all that`s what the holiday is ALL about.
