We thought we'd be fine with it, but tuitions now are just so obscene. A lot of schools now have switched their loans to grants because kids are coming out with such huge bills. I'm hoping DS' school follows suit toon.

I shudder to think about what we're facing in seven years. *crosses fingers for a scholarship*

Kristin, I agree with the others that if it is not going to cause financial strain then why not?
If I could afford a nicer hotel I would definitely do it, but right now I have a wedding to plan for and I don't make that much money so I got to go with the POP. But I am happy to stay there as well. I think you will make the right decision! :)

It is also why Corey goes one semster and then off one. He is paying for his own but refuses to get a loan.

Sorry I disappeared.
There was a huge difference in price in regular coach and discount coach. Regular coach was like $300 one way. The departure and return were both nonstop and at discount coach it was $84.00 per way. With all the taxes I got the 189 dollar per person price.
I do not know the fee yet for getting seat arrangements ahead of time.
So basically this type of flight is one that does not give you certain seats? Which is why it is cheaper?

I can't decide if I want to pay more to get seats together or not.

I think it's cheaper b/c it's so far ahead of time. As it gets closer, the fares will go up. SW doesn't assign seats at all, so it's not an uncommon practice to not have a seat assigned ahead of time.

I wouldn't worry about it. We are made up of all kinds of folks here. We also skrimp and save but when I go to WDW I splruge big time and pay for it for yrs to come. I know it is wrong but that is also why I don't get to go very often.

Vacations are a big deal for us. It's something we all can look forward to and that we enjoy immensely. So if it means DH and I don't exhange Christmas gifts or b-day gifts and put the money towards our trip, that's fine w/me.

I think that will be me in the next year or so. I think I have mentioned this before, but I have let the PTG know that my treasurer job is up for grabs next year. I am seriously considering either a part-time job or a return to college classes. However, I couldn't afford more than one or two classes/semester. So I admire Corey's determination to pay his own way with his education.

When the boys were young we went on vacations almost every yr. on credit. I was naive about saving money back then. I wanted fun for my boys. Now the girls don't get vacations because of our credit:o

She'll do fine Jenn - DD did OK, and actually DS did - he's just not as ambitious as her, so he always costs us a lot more (and he's going to a much more expensive school).

He has had some tough decisions in his life since he has graduated in 2002.

Thanks for all your help! So do you think 189 is a pretty good price? I would have liked to leave earlier then 8 am but I guess I can't be picky when I am on such a tight budget.
I wonder if checking in online 24 hours before will get me a seat together with my family. I just have never done this before so sorry I am so about it all.

Well folks, I need to put towels away and do some more laundry before I get the kids, so I need to get going. Take care everyone!

Wow, good for him! I had major loans after undergrad and grad school. My Dad took out loans in my name that I didn't know about... nice, huh? Luckily when I met DH, he helped me consolidate them and then when we bought our house, we took extra out on the mortgage to pay the rest of them off. It was such a relief!

No worries! Yes, I think $189 is a good price. Definitely check in online 24 hours ahead; it can't hurt, and if you can pick your seats then, great!

It's really scary how much debt some kids graduate with. My nephew's were over $100,000 with law school.

$189 sounds like a good price to me Katy. Prices keep going up as the cost of fuel increases, so you probably should just book it now.
