Hopefully I spelled it Corretly. But, does anyone know if the hill itself had a background story around it and why it's called Chikapin?

I don't know much about it, other than the fry wagon at the base used to be at the top - look for the wheel tracks in the side of the hill and the debris and broken wheels.

On this subject, I have been debating on buying "Song of the South" on Ebay for quite some time now. Has anyone out there seen any copies that were at least decent? I mean, I bought "The Star Wars Christmas Special" (which is so God-awful it's hysterical), but the quality wasn't that great because it was taped off of tv back in 1978. Anyone had any luck with buying a copy? I'd love to hear some feedback.

I recall rumors recently that Disney was thinking about unvaulting SotS sometime in the near future and finally releasing it. Just something to keep in mind before you track down a secondhand recording.

Disney already sells Song of the South on DVD in Europe.

I got a really good quality video of it a few years back off ebay.

It's interesting when you think about this: One of the most popular rides in all of Walt Disney World is based off of something that Disney is totally ashamed of and most people haven't seen. Seeing as how I have never seen the movie, I can't deem it offensive or not, but that's just it. I'd like to see it and make my own opinion about it. It looks like I will be probably buying it on Ebay after all...

Really? :veryconfu
I've seen the wheels but never any tracks. I'll have to look for that next time.
How cool!

It's not that Disney is ashamed of the movie, in fact it is a very innovative blend of animation and live-action! The films content is what causes it no to be sold here in the U.S. It contains racial content that today is politically incorrect. Remember when the film was made, there still was segregation in this country.

But I too really hope this film does get released on DVD. I'd love to see it! I read the book, but I'd rather watch the movie LOL!

Actually it is possible to see some of song of the south. My sister has the Alice in Wonderland DVD and somewhere in the special features (though I can't remember where) you can watch the "Splash Mountain" (I don't remember the actuall name) segment.

OK, two things to contribute here:
1. I heard that Song of the South is going to be released as one of the Treasures (you know, the ones in the metal boxes) so that there is some sort of context for the movie rather than just releasing the movie.
2. When we did Keys to the Kingdom, our tour guide explained that the wagon used to be on the hill, but something broke and it rolled down and settled where it is. That's why the sign says something about being in the location since a certain year and that year is crossed out and changed to the year after. A picture would really help, but I don't have one myself. That and when we were on the tour, I had the world's worst headset that kinda went in and out and I didn't catch everything that she said.
Come to think of it, I had the same problem when we went on HM during the tour. I thought we had too large of a group and my doom buggy was too far away from hers and I just couldn't hear her. I bet it was the bad headset.
Oops, thinking out loud. Sorry for the thread drift.
