Actually it is the real name of Spash Mountain.

It is? Isn't is also the name of the final drop hill? I could have sworn I saw the sign, or have heard it referred to as Chikapin Hill, since the other hills have names too.

Don't Europian DVD not work on American DVD players?? I'm asking is this true??

Not unless your player has been `hacked` - a common occurence in the UK :animwink:

OK, two things to contribute here:
1. I heard that Song of the South is going to be released as one of the Treasures (you know, the ones in the metal boxes) so that there is some sort of context for the movie rather than just releasing the movie.

I have heard something similar. They are working on the special features to include some prominant African American figures to help relieve the anticipated "stress" of the setting of the movie.

We came by a DVD copy that was given to us as a gift :lookaroun that presumably was obtained through ebay. Its average to below average quality, no chapters so you cant skip to locations, etc. I will personally be happy to see Disney release this classic and believe that it will be a very positive thing for Disney.

On this subject, I have been debating on buying "Song of the South" on Ebay for quite some time now. Has anyone out there seen any copies that were at least decent? I mean, I bought "The Star Wars Christmas Special" (which is so God-awful it's hysterical), but the quality wasn't that great because it was taped off of tv back in 1978. Anyone had any luck with buying a copy? I'd love to hear some feedback.

I picked up a copy of SotS on DVD from the web... Copied apparently from a japanese laserdisk (remember? Those silver disks that were the size of regular records and only produced for a short time??). As far as I could research, that was the best way to get a copy on DVD. Supposedly the cleanest, etc...

But it was much less than spectacular. In fact, I think I'd have been happy if it was even mostly FUNCTIONAL. It skipped quite a few times, would freeze up, and pixilate from time to time.

To date I still haven't made it all the way through because of the problems. And it's not just a faulty disk... It will go bad in one place, then I can start the movie over and it might be fine in that place, but skip around in another.

Frustrating. I wouldn't suggest it, personally. I'd just cross your fingers that a real release might eventually happen. Obviously Disney is concerned with the PC aspect of the film... But they also need to balance that with respect from where we've come from, both in film and in society. If it were presented in the proper way... With a few "life lessons" rolled into it somehow (as Disney often does), it could potentially curb protest.

But... I think I recall reading that there were quite a few "groups" that let Disney know they would cause quite a stir were the movie distributed again. And in most cases, the squeaky wheel gets the grease.

Just my two cents.

Whoa. Thread drift. :lookaroun

The mountain itself is referred to Chikapin Hill on the Steamboat Tour of the Rivers of America.

Here's another interesting little deely. Even tho were going off topic here..If you own the Disney Treasures Collection of Disneyland. During the Disneyland story special they Litterally show the half end of the Animated sequence where Brer Rabbit takes Brer Bear & Fox to his laughing place..Although sadly it's not in color but still at least it shows what it would look like in all it's DVD glory.

Hmm, I never knew that the final hill on Splash Mountain was called Chikapin Hill. Can't wait to share this information with others. I love it here, you learn so many new things every day!
