Character Autographs through the mail?

I would love to get Dug the dog's autograph for my daughter (She loves Dug) but probably will not be back in WDW until next spring (and I fear the UP meet and greet will be gone). Does anyone know if Disney will provide an autograph through the mail?

Thanks!

You could always write a letter and ask. It can take some time for the autographs to be sent out though.

I got an autographed picture from Goofy a long time ago... I think I was 13. I initially wrote a letter to Disney asking them if they would waive the age requirement for the backstage tours :)lol:) and in return received a call. The lady I spoke with politely explained to me why the age restrictions were there and that they couldn't bend the rules this time. So in return, she offered to send me an autographed picture of any character that I wanted. It was really nice of her to do that and I still have the picture nearly 7 years later. So, to answer your question, they have sent out autographs and I think if you asked and explained who it was for and you end up corresponding with someone extremely generous then they just might send you an autograph. It never hurts to ask though. The worst they could say would be no.

Back in the early 90's I was obsessed with Pete's Dragon as a kid. I wrote to Disney asking for a picture of Helen Reddy. I not only got her picture they sent me one signed. Whether or not it was actually signed or just reproduced, it truly made my day!!!

I understand the sentiment but Dug the dog is whoever is wearing the costume that day. Id bet if you wrote and asked the person designated to do autographs that day is who signs it. Any reason you can't use the "forgery" posted here?

Please keep in mind that lots of people on this site really care about character integrity and that some younger Guests may be browsing this site.

To the OP: Try writing to Walt Disney World Guest Communications at
PO Box 10040
Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830-0040

or

wdw.guest.communications@disneyworld.com

I'm sure they'll do their best to forward your request on to Dug. Be aware, though, that what you get back may arrive slightly chewed. :)

Well, now I have a question: Aside from the chraracters in the parks, is someone hired just to do autographs all day? The DW and I received a signed photo in our room on our aniversary. They probably do hundreds of these per day for various reasons and I have a feeling it's someone's full time job to sit in an office at WDW and sign pictures etc. for one reason or another.

Not that I would know, but perhaps there is such a room in a resort....

 Wait, don't trick me! The characters are very real!

You have to understand that people like Mickey are very very busy going from WDW to DL and DLP etc every day :animwink: so sometimes they let their friends at guest relations sign their names (usually there are 1 or 2 experts there at main street), just like my wife and I sometimes endorse each other's checks.

Ah, nice!

Think their friends could still help them sign obscure characters' signatures? ;)

Depends who is at guest relations that day, but if you're not in a rush, I'm sure they could find someone who would know how to do it. I have a hard enough time remembering how to sign my own name let alone hundreds of others :)

Well a signature from Dug is a signature from Dug regardless of which of his friends helps him sign it. They've all been trained to help sign in the exact same way.
In theory, a Mickey Mouse signature from the 70's should be the same as a Mickey Mouse signature now.

"character integrity" ? Please explain. I'm honestly asking. You're probably right about younger kids. My kids got autographs while at the parks. But I do think some of the posters after me probably have the right idea on who's signing when we're not looking.

Sometimes the characters will be asked to sign birthday, anniversary, and other similar cards during their breaks. They'll have a big cardboard box full of them in the break rooms and just go at it whenever they have time

Character integrity is simply that- keeping the integrity of the character. It means that Cinderella is Cinderella and Mickey Mouse is Mickey Mouse. Sure, they have some friends that help them out here and there with different things, but ultimately there is only one Mickey Mouse. Character integrity means remembering this even when someone is on a message board and is addressing adults or "hard-core" fans. It means that it doesn't matter whether someone is a child or an adult, everyone should be able to get lost in the "magic" of the characters. For children that comes easily, for adults it requires a little more imagination.
And as far as who is signing what- sometimes the characters themselves do it during their breaks, but they have also taught some Guest Relations cast members how to sign for them. Their hands and paws get pretty tired after signing autograph books all day, so they appreciate some help now and then :animwink:
