Change of BEDDING in Rooms

I read through the post about bed bugs at Disney. I have a question though:

When exactly are the comforters changed at the resorts? During my last visit at POP, I noticed 2 different families stay in the room next to me. I was usually in my room when housekeeping cleaned for the next guest. I NEVER saw housekeeping take out the old comforter and replace it with a new one. When are they changed, someone has to know this.

I don't know how often they are changed, but I was in WDW a for 8 days/ 7 Nights and never once saw a mousekeeping cart with any bedspread changes.

This is why all the articles say to remove that bedspread as soon as you get into the room. You don't know what's on there or when the last time it was cleaned.

The comforters are only changed if they become obviously soiled or torn. There is no scheduled change of comforters.

WOW! Can you request to have your bed spread cleaned?

It bothers me to sleep in a bed under a comforter (regardless if I move it or not) that no telling what other people have done under it. Do they even change the sheets?

They change the sheets on an "as needed" basis. A lot depends upon the housekeepers you get. Some are good and others are not so good.

They'll change out the comforter if you ask, but you'll just get another one that probably wasn't washed but only sprayed with air freshener to cover any odors.

It costs a lot of time, money and water to launder those comforters.

I am OCD about cleanliness.
I never sleep w/ the comforter on the bed in a hotel.
I usually bring my own blanket to cover up with.
I also never walk on hotel carpet w/ my bare feet. :hurl:
If the tub does not look spotless, I can only take a shower.
I know this may sound crazy, but I just can't help it!
Don't laugh. :D

I will NEVER touch, sit on or use a comforter in a hotel. Nasty. It's the first thing that gets ripped off and tossed on a chair or the floor.

I will NEVER walk barefoot on the carpet either. Ew.

And I don't bathe in tubs at hotels. I shower - and I stand on a washcloth when I do it.

So it's not just you!

I saw a thing on Dateline or 20/20 about the cleaniness of hotels a few years ago and ever since then the first thing I do in a hotel is take the comforter off and put it in the closet. It doesn't matter if you are in a cheap motel or a high end hotel, they don't change out the comforters often. I have a totally friend that likes fresh sheets everyday and she actually makes a small mark with a marker on the edge of a sheet to see if they have changed her sheets and if not she'll call down and have them change the bedding, lol. Also don't drink out of the glass cups in the bathroom either or if you do wash them out first. The news program hid cameras in the room while the housekeeping was in there and the majority of the housekeepers only rinsed out the cups and one actually used a blue cleaning fluid to clean it out:hurl: And again they did this in 4 star hotels so it's not just the cheap motels that this is occuring. This may sound crazy but I have 4 kids that touch everything so when we stay at a hotel I bring antibacterial wipes and wipe down everything.

So it's not just you!

Take the phone, put it on the bed, wrap it in the comforter, and the throw the whole mess in the corner.

Well, most of the time I can live with the comforters. I know, I know, I just plug my ears and go la la la la la

but the phones can be downright nasty.

I walk all over the carpers and stand in the tub. I shower all the time anyway - I don't like sitting in my own filth.

And here I thought Disney was a cut above the offsite places (where we stay!) Seems like for the amount of money you pay, you would get clean everything!!! :veryconfu

I don't know how often the sheets are changed but have seen cleaning carts with sheets on them...but never comforters. You can request the comforter be changed, we had one last year at PORS that had a torn corner that I kept hooking my foot in so we asked to have it changed. It was done by the time we got back from the park for our lunchtime rest.

I never sleep under a comforter anyway but it seems like some people may be making a big deal out of nothing here. Standing on a washcloth in the shower was new to me and would make for a very uncomfortable shower. I'm sure I would fall more than once. To the person who has the friend who demands new sheets every night: Does the friend change their sheets daily at home? I can see wanting a fresh set upon check-in, which I'm assuming Disney does, but every day? Seems wasteful. To each his own, though, and I'm glad you guys can get a sense of security from it.

Also the TV remote control. I also am OCD about cleanliness- and I also take off the comforter and only take showers(no baths), wipe down things in the room with anti-bacterial wipes. Did people do these things 20 years ago?

Actually I saw several bedspreads being changed out when I was there last week and it was always when a room was being changed over after a family had left and a new one was coming in.

Also as to bedsheets being changed and fresh towels, this is taken directly from the Housekeeping section of the Guest Services Page of the Sassagoula Times...

"Towels placed on teh floor or in the tub will be replace with clean ones. If you would like to use your towels again, place them back on teh towl bar. During your stay at most of our resorts, bed sheets are changed every four nights or upon request."

It's called "Environmentality" folks. Disney is trying to cut down on the amount of laundry and harmful detergents they are using on a daily basis. Besides, if it's just your family in that room on a daily basis, do you really need brand new sheets every day? Do you wash your sheets at home every single day?

I only ever recall seeing mousekeeping changing them once while i was roaming the halls. I try not to think about how dirty they can be.

Environmentality is kind of a joke. It originated as a money-saving mechanism. A by-product of that money saving is that they use less detergent and can say they are saving the environment (with their 2-3 firework shows a night, bus pollution, and god only knows how much pesticide).

I believe the policy (but, as with everything, this doesn't mean every mousekeeper follows the policy) is that comforters are changed between parties checking in.

To those of you with the skivvies over the Disney resort rooms, you should try the NYC subway some day...
