NOT grown adults complaining the Mickey and the Magic Map, clearly aimed at younger children, wasn't to their standards.

Y'all. 😂

Anyway, this Lion King show looks pretty cool.

Agreed! I like the new projections, really helps fill out the stage compared to the Paradise Park run of the show.
The stage looks great, and the few clips I saw sound good, but the costumes are very disappointing, when they announced this I thought we’d get something similar to the Lion King scene in Mickey and the Magician in Paris with elaborate animal costumes and props, not just singers in boring costumes.

I’m not sure this will have the same repeatability that Magical Map did, I wish they’d copied and expanded on the Lion King portion of the Magician show from Paris because that’s an amazing show.

I don't mind all too much; the core concept for the show is that they're all storytellers that are bringing the Lion King to life, which is a nice way to reflect how this is "their" interpretation of the story, so to speak. I do agree they could've done more in the larger stage to introduce some more exciting stagecraft/props, but compared to what I expected it's a step up overall.

All performances of Tale of the Lion King were cancelled today (6/2). Have not heard why yet.

"Disneyland has canceled a performance of a new “Lion King” musical stage show less than a week after opening at the Anaheim theme park after several members of the cast fell ill amid a surge in COVID-19 cases across the United States.

The performance of the “Tale of the Lion King” in the Fantasyland Theatre at Disneyland planned for Thursday, June 2 has been canceled out of an abundance of caution after several Disneyland cast members called in sick, according to Disneyland officials."

"Thursday’s “Tale of the Lion King” performance was planned as part of a summer kickoff media event while Disneyland hosts national and international news outlets.

Disneyland has not yet announced if the “Tale of the Lion King” show will be canceled on future dates.

The Disneyland website lists “no performances today” for the “Tale of the Lion King” show on Thursday — the first day of the two-day media event. The Disneyland calendar still shows five daily performances on Friday, June 3 and for future dates."

I had a feeling but didn't want to speculate. We saw a large contingent of Japanese media being ushered around DCA last night. Bummer these folks came but only got to see a video recorded version in the Lincoln Theater (I believe that's where it was shown)

Well, I'm a grown adult and I love Mickey and the Magical Map.:) While A Tale of The Lion King is a very interesting show, but I hope Disneyland has a new show for Fantasyland Theatre in development. Hopefully similar to Mickey and the Magical Map. Or dear! I hope I don't over repeat this in this thread!

That shouldn't be too difficult. Hong Kong and Paris both have (not sure if they're still around post-pandemic?) shows that are very similar to Magical Map, but done even better. Those shows are "Mickey and the Wondrous Book" and "Mickey and the Magician" respectively.

Worse things could happen than them just copying and pasting one of them over here.

Absolutely, but a different storyline that works at Disneyland.

They don't even need to do that. It's basically the exact same structure but with different reasons for the musical numbers to start (so a magic book instead of a magical map, for example), and of course different songs.

They could copy it verbatim and most guests would never know that they came from somewhere else (and DL has actually blatantly copied HK several times, of which PTN is only the most well known).

Here's Wondrous Book. It's VERY similar, and nothing that flat out wouldn't work (although HK and Paris' shows both benefit from indoor venues).

Yes, I saw that on YouTube. That was a great show. And you be surprise that Shanghai Disneyland has it too, but with a different title called Mickey’s Storybook Adventure and some different movies. Here’s the video: And even if we are getting the same show as the Wondrous Book, then Fantasyland Theatre should be rebuild into a indoor show.

Hmm, looks like they rebuilt what they were basically using as a Main Street Cinema sort of place as a show venue (or perhaps it was that to begin with; I never actually went inside).

I agree that it would probably be in the park's long term interest to, say, enclose the Fantasyland Theater, but since the future of that venue and whether or not it's justified seems to always be an open question, I'm not sure if it will ever come to be. We can hope someday they'll come to their senses and commit to a great enclosed DL venue!

Really, though, Magic Kingdom DESPERATELY needs that indoor theater that they almost went forward with.

With TOLK now in the Fantasyland Theatre and its continued use as a venue for school music groups, Id say its future is still pretty bright. Enclosing it would really help weather wise. Magical Map was always at risk of cancelations when it rained or if it was too hot even with the tent cover on top of it.

And its return is most welcome as the Hyperion Theater at DCA remains without a show inside.

Okay, as much as I’m not a fan of Micechat, however I‘ve just found out that A Tale of The Lion King will have it’s last performance on August 27th. Here’s the source: https://www.micechat.com/329833-dis...avorables-halloween-screams-toontown-secrets/ I don’t know what’s going to happen after that, but I kind of wonder if this means that there’s going to be a new show at Fantasyland Theatre next year. Hopefully similar to Mickey and the Magical Map.

I'm going to be surprised if they actually end this show so soon considering they did seemingly modify the stage/remove all of Map's infrastructure for it. I still haven't even seen it yet. Of course, I haven't seen the returned Main Street Electrical Parade with the new float yet either. Guess I'd better hurry up.

I wonder if it didn't pull in the crowds like Map did? I always thought it was too small a show for this venue.
