Casey Jr. Being "Reassessed"

Citing what happened with year one Disneyland is a terrible example because the amount of resources Walt had at the time to do the (then) crazy idea were not exactly pentiful and the whole project was rushed to completion (you try building a whole theme park in a year). It wasn't a "mistake", it was a legitamite series of problems that he set out to fix almost immediately when he knew he could.

Ok, that's fair. Did you read the article that was posted?

I did and I agree with it mostly, but feel some examples are not as good as others. Canal Boats of the World, for instance, falls into the point I was making. Matterhorn was a better example because it was post "year one" Disneyland.

I hope that this play area has the water chemically treated, if not things could get very messy. I used to work at a waterpark and was in charge of maintaining all the water that was treated there. We had to put a chlorination system in our fountain because people thought they could go swimming in it. Some nasty bugs live in water if not treated properly, not to mention drug resistant bacteria.

I believe the sign warns of the water being recirculatted. But you're right, it still has to be filtered and treated. It may not get pool-level chlorine, but they have to do something.

Having my knowledge of waterpark filtration systems there is no way I would let my kids play in the water at casey's

Sorry but... your poor kids! Sometimes I have to put that sort of thinking aside and remember it was 100 times worse when I was a kid and I'm fine. LOL! :)

Ugh.. what freaking DRAMA!!

It's a treated water system! Stop getting your panties in a twist because it's not fresh tap water running full time wasting water.

Stop trying to act like we all need to be living in freaking bubbles and germophobes.

As my friend's father would always say, "It's cleaner than a lake". Honestly, if you let your kids swim in the ocean at the beach, this waterpark is guaranteed to be much much cleaner than that and I bet most parents don't think twice about letting their kids swim in the ocean. This worry about the recirculated water is pretty ridiculous and the water is certainly cleaner than any natural body of water that people swim in.

"When I was a little boy in New York City in the nineteen-forties, we swam in the Hudson River, and it was filled with raw sewage! We swam in raw sewage, you know, to cool off!
And at that time the big fear was polio. Thousands of kids died from polio every year. But you know something? In my neighborhood no one ever got polio. No one, ever!
You know why? Cause we swam in raw sewage! It strengthened our immune system. The polio never had a prayer. We were tempered in raw sh**!"

I want to clarify that I am not a germaphobe in anyway, but we are not talking 40 years ago or even 10 years ago about bacteria. I work in a hospital and i'll leave it at that. You wouldn't imagine the amount of cases that we get pertaining to kids playing in untreated water. MRSA and VRE to name a couple not to mention you don't need a cut or a scrape to contract these very hard to treat germs.

If people are actually playing in rivers that have pre-treated sewage dumped into them....that's one thing. The recirculated water in a Disney play feature isn't going to kill anyone, unless of course it's a kid whose parents won't let him/her get any immunizations.

I built a splash pad a few years ago at our local park. It has a simple re-circulation system that ran the water through a quick sand filter and sent it back out. It may have added a dash of some kind of chemical, but I don't think so.

At the end of the day, they opened a valve and drained it to the public waterways. They started with new tap water the next day.

Unless someone is covered in bacteria, and they're using the play feature as their bio-hazard shower, the filter on the re-circulation pump is sufficient for anyone with an immune system.

Wow. I haven't been on this thread in a little while. Now Casey's Splash Zone is unsafe too. When I last checked in it was just tacky and sixflaggish and didn't belong in the MK since Walt wanted a park that kids and adults could both enjoy. We have reached a new low.

In case anyone is concerned my kids played in this the first weekend it opened and they are just fine.

So I guess you think Space Mountain, Splash Mountain and Big Thunder mountain don't belong in the park either since little kids can't ride those along with adults? I don't think it was ever Walt's intention that every attraction in the park appeal equally to every age range, just that there was something for everybody in the park. Besides there is nothing stopping adults from playing at Casey Jr with their kids.

You are preaching to the choir here. I am one of the few who actually like Caseys for exactly what it is I was paraphrasing other posters since I haven't figured out how to do multiple quotes from other pages.

I agree, my daughter will be playing in that later this month. Sometimes you gotta let them have some fun.

Give it time. The conversation will come full circle and end up with "Getting a rash from untreated sewer water at Disney is so tacky!"
