Oh come on, Sean. Yeah, it could be pretty entertaining to watch a couple moms go all Jiu Jitsu full on UFC style at the tea cups...but how fun would it be to go thru Buzz Lightyear and blow the competition away? Literally! LOL!

When I worked in LE our SOPs did require those certified to carry their weapons both on-duty and off-duty unless it was unsafe to do so. The examples they gave for when not to carry (used to crack me up) were while swimming or in a bar. I used to wonder how a chick could wear cute fitted clothes and conceal the obvious..uh..bulge. LOL!

This was my understanding as well. In our area, LEOs were required to carry at all times unless it was not safe to do so. In college I used to work in a grocery store that had a no weapons policy. There was a friend of mine that worked there, that became a LEO, and it was sort of a don't ask don't tell thing. He was required to carry, and it was not an unsafe place to do so, so he did. Nobody really talked about it. Would have been nice if he was there the time a shoplifter turned around and cut my legs out from under me as I was chasing him down the street, but thats a different story.

To address other points.

I live in NJ. It is almost impossible to get a CCW here. NJ is a "may issue" state. If you fill out all the forms correctly, and have no reason to be denied a CCW, they may issue you one, or they may not.

FL is a "shall issue" state. If you fill out all the forms, and have no reason not to be issued a permit, they shall issue you one. Then you can get reciprocity with other states that recognize FL.

The issue of the fireworks and firearms is a little different than stated. WDW, along with many other companies, had a "no weapons on property policy". Many people complained that they lived or traveled through bad areas on their way to and from work, and wished to have a gun in the car. A bill was put forth that forced employers to allow employees to bring guns to work and leave them secured in their cars. In the final hours before the bill was passed, the exception about businesses having a federal permit for explosives was tacked onto the bill (in no small part due to the efforts of Disney). There was never any bill allowing employees to carry weapons into the parks (or offices)

As far as carrying in WDW is concerned. I think that falls under the unsafe to do so guidelines, as it is private property and prohibited. For Federal agents and those authorized by WDW, thats a different story.

I also don't doubt that people do carry in WDW. I have said in other threads that it would be very easy to carry in the parks. They really do not do much of a search.

I would not carry myself. My take on it is, it's Disney's property, and if they say they don't want me to, then I respect their wishes, just as I expect others to respect my wished on my property. If I feel its unsafe to be in WDW unarmed, then I would not go.

No offensive to anyone I don't feel that it would be a wise decision to carry a firearm , no matter how safe on a roller coaster, but its a personal choice, now saying that it is also private property and thats a whole other story as well. If it was me I'd say leave it home, now in the case of an FBI agent or US Marshal thats a different case being a Federal Agent they would have jurisdiction, but if you just carry to carry with a concealed permit I would say not worth the hassle.

And thats coming from the guy in the open carry state where you don't need a permit just register the gun as long as its not concealed your good to go.

Not old, just vintage.

That is my favorite part of living in NJ. I applied and was denied. I know very few civilians here that have a permit. Very weird state we live in....

Chuck Norris isn't even allowed into the parks because his whole body is a deadly weapon.

No, no. Chuck Norris is not banned from the parks; Chuck Norris just chooses not to go to Disney. ;)

And while I respect the Constituional right to bear arms, knowing that people around me may be carring a concealed weapon on them does not make me confortable. Its not something I think about, but when the issue comes up, thats my feeling about it.

I dont feel safe knowing people around me have guns.

Just my eleven cents.

And I feel safer because of it. Of course, that only applies to responsible gun owners. I've always felt uncomfortable with thugs and criminals around.

But, as Phonedave mentioned, if I start feeling unsafe inside a WDW park, I wouldn't go anymore.

(Note that several terrible events have occurred in environments where the offender was counting on no one being armed to defend themselves (or others) and, tragically, they were right ....)
This reminded me of an old "All in the Family" episode in which Archie Bunker was saying that the best way to prevent hijackings (which were more prevalent back then) was to issue firearms to all passengers as they entered the plane.

Im all for the 2nd amendment but the idea of bringing a loaded weapon into WDW is ridiculos to me. I never have understood the fasination of carrying guns around everywhere.

Archie was right more often than we'd care to admit. Problem is, the writers of the show were so left wing that they did a very good job taking some otherwise good ideas and making them look ridiculous by having an ignorant hick expressing them.

Having said that, I love watching that show, as I find it quite hillarious even though I know they are willfully stereotyping and cariciturizing (sp?) people from my ideological camp.

And having said all that, I'm also not sure I would go quite so far as endorsing a policy of allowing all guests on a plane to carry a gun on the flight, although I can't say I'm totally against the idea either. ;)

It's not the guns that bother me, but rather the people carrying them. For instance, this guy:

So according to some, WDW is a perfect utopia where you shouldn't even think about safety or self defense, and according to others, you bring your children at their own risk, because there's bound to be a pedophile hiding behind every tree and in every bathroom stall, ready to jump your kid the moment your back is turned.

:ROFLOL:

And so, apparently, you should be ready to blow that pedophile away.

Which does society a favor, but would certainly cause an instant refurb.
