I've had res set up for June 6th so hopefully it's just booked and not actually closing. Once again no e-mails.
I looked at reservations for a minimum of 10 days in May, June, July, and August, and couldn't find a single reservation opening for any month. :/

I assumed the point of this would be to put it where the convention center now sits... That's why they are building up more convention space. This would also allow for better (i.e., more expensive) views. But, I'd have significant concerns about the optics of this.

AFAIK the Contemporary convention space is still very much in demand and isn't going anywhere. The goal has been to expand convention capacity, not relocate it.

The Garden Wing isn't far from needing some significant work, and I think they'd rather reallocate that land for DVC.

We are going mid May and yes, no reservations for Shutters. If there's no dining I don't want to be at CBR. We've been booked for a while now. Will they eventually move us? My kids are going to be sad :( Anyone ever been moved by disney for the resort they booked being under construction?

I will give them a call this week - we are booked at CBR from May 20th to 26th for DS4's first visit.

I don't want to be in a construction zone and no access to the food courts. The atmosphere and food courts are part of the reason we chose this resort.

I don't want to eat from freaking food trucks all week. I hope they have a better plan - I don't mind paying Disney premiums but for $6000 I want a quality trip!!!

I am pretty sure they will only move you if they are overbooked. We had reservations for CBR and switch them to Port Orleans yesterday. It was a little bit more expensive but pretty minimal.

I gave the resort, not the restaurant, a call yesterday. They didn't seem to have much more detailed information then the announcement said. She just said starting May construction would start in that area and that food would still be offered somehow but she wasn't sure if the restaurant would be closed. However the fact that the restaurant is no longer accepting reservations is a bit suspicious.

I gave them a call as well. Reservation desk had no information and weren't helpful at all. Called the resort directly and gave me the basic information, but couldn't say if they were overbooking.

However, with the resorts filling up, I'm surprise CBR is still taking reservations with two sections going under the knife. I'm going to keep my reservation and hope for the best!

They will email you shortly. There also should be other food options if the main ones are closed.
I just said this in another thread, the last 3 resorts I stayed at had construction going on. I knew that ahead of time and still booked. One of them announced that the QS restaurant would be closed, after I booked..but they set up alternatives. Each time I received an email with information about the construction/changes.
Definitely didn't regret staying at any of them!

If you booked the resort for the theme/location, don't change it. :)

There were two permits filed today for construction trailers. The contractor on one of them is PCL Construction Services who Disney uses a lot for resort work, and was also the general contractor on Disney Springs. The contractor on the other is Austin Commercial which seems to be a new one for Disney, although they are currently doing Volcano Bay for Universal. I can't really see them dividing the CBR project between these two contractors which makes me think the Austin might be doing the gondola system.

I think it's more likely that Austin Commercial will be building the DVC portion. Looking at their portfolio they seem to specialize in big multi story hotels and arenas in Dallas and Houston. That would seem to jive with a planned tower. They might also be doing the gondolas too I suppose but I don't see any prior experience on that.

Who is the contractor for the CSR tower?

Those resorts that are a combo of cash rooms/DVC - WL, Poly, GF, BLT/CR, AK, BW - all share amenities - pools, restaurants, bus service, lobby check-in (BLT is the only that has its own). So if DVC will be added to CSR & CBR, sharing amenities will not be unusual.
Sure.... but the point is that they apparently are not adding DVC to CSR or CBR. The DVC in the CBR area will be an independent resort with its own amenities and not part of CBR. I would think it would have its own theme as well (though perhaps somewhat related to Caribbean Beach).

People are talking about the DVC next to CBR as though it would be an addition to that resort; it is not going to be according to insiders here.

Found this on the Austine webpage: Austin Bridge & Road has built landmark projects from Arizona to North Carolina, including complex urban highway interchanges, tollways, runways, port facilities, border crossings, automated people mover guideways and specialty bridges.

Good point. The PCL projects have all been renovations, not building large new structures.

But that is not the division doing this project, the permit is for the Austin Commercial division. As @Viget pointed out, a hotel tower is a better fit for this division.

It will be exactly like Copper Creek at Wilderness Lodge. Part of the overall resort acreage, but yes, by law, timeshares are separate legal properties. And it may share amenities - parking, restaurant, pool. Until Disney files permits with SFWMD, we won't know for sure.

Didn't Spirit or Martin mention tearing down a group of buildings to construct the new DVC resort in the CBR area?

Does that mean that this new large multi-floor internal-corridor building may only be the first of several going on the pad that is the existing barbados, custom house, and part of martinique? There will be more large multi-room buildings that arent shown on the map on pg 1?

Got an email this morning regarding our May reservation. It mentions that some areas will be under construction, but also that Old Port Royale Food Courts, Shutters, Banana Cabana Pool Bar and Calypso Trading post will be closed for refurbishment.

Options will be available for all three meals. Centretown will serve breakfast and dinner, and Centretown will serve breakfast and dinner and a selection of grab-and-go meals will be available for purchase in three island markets located in Aruba, Jamaica and Martinique regions.
