News Caribbean Beach Expansion

We have just found out about this. We go 6th May. I am absolutely fuming. They can spin it all they want but it is not the holiday we paid for. Just mulling over options. :(

Call them and complain! As we come from UK we booked Wilderness Lodge five months before the first construction announcement. They offered $100 a night either as room account credit to spend or towards a switch to another resort. We couldn't find somewhere we definitely wanted to move to so stuck with Wilderness Lodge and pushed further to get a pool view upgrade as well so we weren't facing any construction. It was surprisingly easy to spend the $1400 credit even though we had the dining plan!

So yes call and complain and see if you can get something towards a resort switch. As a minimum I would try for a free switch to Port Orleans (which is usually a little more expensive than Caribbean beach).

Does anyone have any idea on when the Barbados area work will start? Booked at CBR for November for our 10th anniversary - our honeymoon room is in Barbados!

Although how often do you wash towels at home? For me weekly towel washing is normal so I just see it as common sense rather than cost cutting :)

Yeah, but at home you weren't paying someone to clean your room every day either.. imagine if you were and one week they just decided to start showing up every 3rd day... to "be more green".

Unless you have daily maid service at home.. home analogies kind of fall flat.

Towel washing is a different matter than maid service cleaning a room in my opinion.

How often do you empty the trash from your home?
Wash the tub and floors?

Point being.. you are paying for daily room service from the hotel. I'm all for people opt'ing to skip services at their choosing.. but not the idea that its OK to start removing things because of drawing analogies like "you wouldn't at home..".

Part of the hotel experience is being able to come back to a tidy, made up room with fresh amenities.

Sorry, what has been removed? I still get fresh towels every day.

You mean just like not washing dirty guest towels on a daily basis is "to save water and help protect the environment" and not the company's bottom line? ;)

All hotels do that at this point. If you want them washed they give you instructions on what to do with them.

Obviously it saves them money to not wash every used towel every day, but its not like they refuse to do it if you want it done.

Sorry, what has been removed? I still get fresh towels every day.

If you throw them in the tub or on the floor, they give you fresh ones. If you put them back on the pile, they will just fold them.

And, to be clear: Will that new building for the DVC will be an independent resort and not part of CBR?

I can't see how it wouldn't be 'part' of the resort, even if it has a different name. This refurb of Centretown is to bring it more in line with DVC 'standards', so its going to be part of CBR.

We switched our reservation to PORFQ about a day before the emails came out. Guess I should have held out and asked for a discount lol. Really though, I am so happy I switched before Port Orleans was all booked up.

Remember that they have not officially announced anything except the Centretown refurb. So while you are most likely correct, they haven't talked about the actual demolitions for the DVC yet.
They have already communicated that Barbados and Martinique will be unavailable for guests beginning in May.
