And just to clarify, I know how great Food Trucks can be. We have a different one every day at work and I use them frequently. However, while I do know that they can offer wonderful food they have one major problem. If they want to be efficient and quick, their selection has to be more limited. So while the food may be better in some ways, a multi-point offering food court they are not.

Same here - nothing against food trucks but when I pay the full Disney price, I expect the full Disney experience. Since we are celebrating DS's 4th birthday and his first visit, we want it to be fully magical - this is why we switched to POR and didn't take the discount.

I'm going to be honest. You are not going to live out of a food truck for your entire vacation. Yes they will be running off of food trucks at the resort, but it's Disney World. You are pretty much only eating at the resort for breakfast. Then in the parks for dinner.

May 1st is the start of a multiple phase project. First phase is the complete closure and remodel of Old Port Royale. Possibly a name change. And I promise the final product going in will be completely different than the current version. Not just a retheaming like they did with the French Quarter refurb. New seating areas and layouts and new services being offered there. Let alone shutters being out by the water where the movie is shown every night.

This of course is once it's finished. People that are staying there during the construction will not have it that bad. They did a running test last year in Trinidad South having the exact same service and seeing how people reacted to it. They set up a food truck by the pool and converted one of the rooms into a Grab N Go. It was actually pretty cool and well received. Let alone the great breakfast that came from it. It will be similar but more large scale. I know people may be thinking car sales stripy tent with hot dogs and dirty old tables with food trucks everywhere. This will not be the case. And mug refills will still be an option. Probably via freestyle. (Even though I'm not a fan of those machines and how they make regular flavors taste terrible and smell like vinegar)

Disney will try and make things better as much as they can. But seriously folks. How much time in the day are you spending looking at construction vs being in the parks/springs. I understand pool days, and the pools will not be touched minus the Barbados pool (RIP).

....leave your retaliation below......

Any statement that basically comes down to 'this is how you should vacation' is of course wrong.

Which, coincidentally, is the same reason I hate FP+.

Does the gift card apply only to current bookings, or to any that are made during the renovation?

Logic dictates that it would apply to any nights during the work, so basically May 2017 til the conclusion of the project, regardless of when they were booked.

I'm happy to have switched to POR and gotten a price match. Worth at least twice as much as the card and I will have a much better experience!

POR isn't $25 a night more than CBR. Definitely not $50.

But as far as the inconvenience, can't really put a number on that. I would probably make the same change.

Receive this a few minutes ago, I think communication is completely broken across Disney at this point.

You know what's funny?
Smooth, Disney... A $25 gift card (rather than lowering rates). In other words, you still have to spend it on-property. Pass.

My experience is that hotels typically (but not always) give out free stuff for major construction situations like this, rather than announcing they are lowering rates

Although, they may be forced to lower rates a bit just to get people to stay (if occupancy takes a dive)....without actually announcing they are doing this.

So the correction was sent to me not long after I posted on here. It doesn't take much sometimes... just wish Disney wouldn't leave their service people in the dark. Yeah sure the big wigs make the decisions but if the people who have to deal with customers get the short end of it. Another reason I'll stick to my factory job..

I've been saying it for a while now when folks ask about the best moderate. "Anywhere but Caribbean Beach". There have been whispers of this around for at least a year.

Nope. Glad I changed. If I am going to pay full price, I want a fully functional resort. When they re-did the main pool several years ago I was fine with it because they had the other pools available. This - complete upheaval of services and amenities. Sorry - food trucks do not do it for me. My wife and I actually spend a lot of time at OPR besides breakfast. It's part of our routine. And the gift cards - nice try. We will stick with POR.

Sad...I really perfer the feel of CBR over the rest (soft spot for anything remotely Caribbean) but yeah this construction *caugh* destruction of CBR will turn me into a Coronado fan. POR is quiet but meh.
